Offline Verbal Commits @VerbalCommits 49m49 minutes ago Former Drake F Kale Abrahamson is transferring to Duquesne. (HT @jeffborzello) @kaleabe13 … Offline Well we got our answer for who is going to replace gill. Seems like a better shooter than LG but not quite the athlete. Next year's team is looking better with these two additions. Last edited by Dukes2012 (4/18/2016 5:30 pm) Offline Offline I hope it works out for Kale. Northwestern and Drake didn't work out so well for him. Had a very good non-conference season for Drake, but was really bad during the MVC season. Offline Verbal commits has him as 3 stars. Schools such as Iowa, Iowa State and Stanford showed interest. So far, so good. Lot will depend on Ferry in using him in the best way possible which is problematic. Offline Well, I like that they didn't spend the scholarships on high school kids of dubious value. Gives us three ships for the fall. Offline Well, I like that they didn't spend the scholarships on high school kids of dubious value. Gives us three ships for the fall. I completely agree. Ferry did a great job this past year of locking up his top targets in the fall. Hopefully he will be able to replicate that this recruiting period as well. With the exception of a rare case like Damian Saunders, the chances of you getting a good high school senior this late are not good. I would much rather have three scholarships to use in the summer/fall. Last edited by Dukes2012 (4/18/2016 6:25 pm) Offline This all only matters if Ferry becomes a different coach next year. Base this team on the Center, (Lewis and Robinson) and feed to the shooter or the small forward, then we are probable at 80 percent winning factor, but go to a guard first game, 50 to 60 % winning probability. The problem isn't the players, it's the Coach!!! Ferry isn't up to game, really. Waite and see. Got the players, not the coach. Offline One last assist from Micah getting this kid here? Last edited by Duques102 (4/18/2016 6:56 pm) Offline He scored 41 in a game this past year? Sign me up! Online! He was described as a G/F in one story while at Northwestern. Has the look of a 3 to me. Offline One last assist from Micah getting this kid here? I doubt it. This guy was at Northwestern when Micah was at Drake. Offline For me the jury is still out on this kid. Online! I'm not seeing him at the 4. Offline Occasionally Damian Sanders name pops up in these threads - For some of the posters who may be newer - Damian originally committed to Marquette - They had a numbers problem when Wade did NOT turn pro when expected - he would have been OFF scholarship - and wound up at Duquesne - It was NOT a case of us having him all the way etc. And may provide some insight as to how we got a player of his caliber. Knowing what they know now - Marquette would probably have selected ANOTHER player from that class and released him - Keeping Damian. The chances that we get lucky on another Saunders type player this late are not good. I'd rather balance out our recruiting classes and have three scholarships available for the 2017 class live period, which just started Friday. We had good recruiting success last year and two of our recruits probably would have found a way onto a P5 roster had we not signed them when we did. Trying to lock kids like mike and Littleson down early is the best route for a school like us IMO at this point Offline I think Jim Ferry did a good job of recruiting this year. But let's see Blackman and Abrahamson for what they are...patch jobs. The brick by brick rebuild promised by Ferry has not materialized. That is not to diss these guys as I think they are good patches. I think they will help next year which was not looking too promising. I think this is the best we could have hoped for. The kid wasn't Wade, who was already an NBA star at that time. It was Dominic James. Offline Well, I like that they didn't spend the scholarships on high school kids of dubious value. I would much rather have three scholarships to use in the summer/fall. With respect to next season, I don't think it makes any sense to steal away someone from one of the low or mid-majors. We tried this before when Ferry first came in, and we got DC and JJ, 2 guys you clearly think aren't good enough for this level. Thus, get the transfers and move on to the next period imho. Offline I see power conferences signing kids. I guess they're stealing from the underprivileged. Online! That's pretty much how I'm seeing the line up pan out. Hopefully Mike comes in ready to go because our 3 bigs can be expected to be in frequent foul trouble. Offline Really hoping Sanders can add not only muscle but an offensive game as well. Hope coach Rhodes can have a big impact here. Potential is only potential until it is developed. Ferry knows he's quickly approaching do or die time, thus, a project who may develop in 2-3 years is not going to help him. He needs to win games now, and he knows it. I don't expect these transfers to turn the team around, but like most teams that look like they might finish near .500 overall, there will be a bunch of close games. These guys might add enough to put 2 or 3 of those in the win column, while low level freshmen won't get off the bench. You may think 2-3 games isn't much, but if we had won those 3 winnable games down the stretch, we're a 20 win team, and we're discussing what we need to do to take the next step, as opposed to how soon we can get rid of the coach.

The drake to Duquesne pipeline continues. The last one worked out pretty well for us!

He's a great student. Maybe a change of scenery is what he needed,

I am much more excited for the blackman transfer. I am worried that this guy needs a great coach to really play at his celling but we all know how ferry miss handles his players abilities.
Hopefully he has the strength to play the 4 spot on both sides of the ball.
Worst case....again he's only here for a year.

If you're on Twitter, you should follow Verbal Commits. Mid majors and low majors are signing kids daily right now.
The question is: who do you target? Ferry spent 10 years at LIU targeting low level prospects and still hasn't shown he can bring in stronger talent. Four years of DC and JJ starting, the parade of defections of his top targets, really tell you what his recruiting philosophy is. Now we're going to "build a program" by signing guys who have played three years somewhere else.
At least he's trying something different. Who knows, this might work. They've at least had some coaching. Which is the second part of the problem here. We're not getting A10 talent, and we're not developing the kids we get.
Some folks might get all happy about a one time scoring binge. I see a guy get benched for the conference season and wonder how this translates into the A10.
We'll see. Makes me cringe when I think of how many years are still on this contract.

Re: Abrahamson Commits to Duquesne
It's too bad the Ireland trip, despite the ridiculously low level of competition, didn't happen this season instead of last year. A team with so many new starters would have benefitted more from the experience, certainly in terms of creating some chemistry.
Will be interesting to see how things shake out. I hope Sanders can add some muscle over the summer and force himself into the lineup. Eric James seemed to play better as a sixth man, and a lineup of Lewis-Sanders (or Robinson)-Abrahamson-Blackman-Smith with the versatile James and the "loser" of the Sanders/Robinson battle as the first two off the bench might be worth looking at.
