Have not posted in awhile, but here's what I think........

I have been reading many thoughtful posts and wincing at some arguments and even an insult now and then. If you are loyal enough to keep following Duquesne basketball you may agree we all get frustrated at the annual end of year flops so occasional fights might be ok.

I marvel how every year some little known program gets to the NCAA's, and gathers a bit of fame, however brief . Sadly, Duquesne hasn't caught that special year yet, and I think that is the only way we will ever return to the dance again.

The better players will not come here, and the ones with promise eventually leave early. This goes back recently to Sean James, our shot blocker supreme, who got schooled once he hit conference play, he bolted for Isreal after one year in the A-10.

If the grad players help us limp to 15 or 17 wins next year I really expect the same results, quick exit from the A-10 and buy into a Jr. Post season tournament. This depends on how many games we can win out of conference and picking up maybe 6 or 7 A-10 wins including the post season game.

Now mind you, I still plan to follow the games and hope to once again get up to Palumbo for a game. I will root for the AD and hope the Coach can get the best out of his talent, but realize that only a winning streak here or there will be season high points, not post season.

I also compliment the many fine knowledgeable  posts that y'all put up, I constantly learn from this board, and I am an older fan, maybe wiser or maybe not.

Thanks to the monitors work and as always, Let's Go Duquesne!

A diehard fan since 1961

Monitors get as much consideration here as a  Republican caucus!  Thanks for the reminder above and Id like to take this time to do something I've never done before to thank CLK, 81, ED and anyone else associated with running the show.  Personally, yunz all nutz. My excuse, accidental DU sucker for hopeless causes.

Good to hear from Phildog. I feel much the same about the state of DU BB. Hoping against hope that the staff will know how to best utilize the players that we do  have on the roster. My gut feeling ...probably not!

LOL.  You summed it up.  I think we all have to be "nutz" to be the remaining long suffering DU basketball fans and not bail out like most already have.  As Bill Murray said in Stripes: "We're Mutants...There is something seriously wrong with us".

Re: Have not posted in awhile, but here's what I think........

You would think we'd have gotten lucky at least once since 1972. I guess 1977 was lucky, but I'm thinking of actually having a good team. Rutgers is pretty awful, but their futility began about 16 years after ours. The few times it really looked like we might get somewhere, disaster struck with the rape accusations, and the shooting. The hidden vigorish has to be in our favor by now. Aren't we due for a season where everything breaks right for us? No injuries, freshmen better than expected, a role player steps up and becomes a star. 2009 was as close as we got. If James had come back, we might have gotten over the hump that year.

You are right, it takes just one break or two in our favor to get the program rolling. Sean James, good example, Then,  this year, Gill and Powell, if returning,  along with Lewis, James, and Robinson could have been something  in the paint next year.  Now we will wait and see if the transfers gel, but  with every year, we can hope we have an other Aaron Jackson type to show up and to run the offense, or maybe Eric James picks it up a level, or maybe Lewis and Robinson rule the paint next year. Look at every year for the Pirates, they were just one or two impact players away from winning for along time.  Then,  it happened, and success  feeds on it's self.  It may never happen here, but strangely, we  always seem  close in one way or another.  This year had a bunch of what if's , really..  Let's hope next year, everything falls together, because, just sometime, it can.

Cubs are cursed because of 1908. Until they appease the ghost of Merkle, they'll never win. I expect for them to have some sort of tragic end this year.
