Offline According to Jon Rothstein, "Duquesne transfer LG Gill told @CBSSports he will decide between Maryland and Marquette. No other visits set. Immediately eligible." Offline And ... it's Maryland. Offline Gill moves closer to home. Good luck Last edited by CLK (5/09/2016 2:06 pm) Online! Gill moves closer to home. Good luck Not sure I would label it as a "big get for the terps," but he is certainly a capable rebounder and streaky shooter. LG was a nice kid off the court and I certainly wish him much success at Maryland and beyond. Will probably make some money in Europe if he wants to. Offline I don't necessarily agree with the "big get" comment either. The grad transfer period reminds me a lot of the end of the night at a college house party. You're desperately looking around to fill a need with a limited window of time remaining. The longer you don't lock somebody up the slimmer and slimmer the talent gets. Eventually, because it's all that's left and your still going to fill the need, you'll take just about anything, and usually someone you wouldn't normally take if you had more time (or less beer). I see LG this way, noit saying he isn't a very solid-good college player. Last edited by Duques102 (5/09/2016 2:43 pm) Offline I stand by my feeling that if LG was a senior in high school and was where he is now developmentally, Maryland wouldn't have even sniffed him. Irrelevant. For the same reason why we signed two graduate transfers. Offline Yeah, but had Blackman been producing the way he was in college out of high school like I talked about with Gill we probably would have been all over him, especially with him being an NYC kid. With Abrahamson, we never would have had a chance recruiting him out of high school with him being offered by like, at least 5 or 6 power 5 conference schools. Maryland has a lot higher recruiting standards than us obviously, so I don't really see how you can compare the two situations. Offline "He is a tremendous addition to our program who will be able to make immediate contributions. L.G. was a very productive player at Duquesne and improved each season," Turgeon said. "He is a good shooter and rebounder and is extremely athletic. As one of two seniors on our roster, he will bring high character, strong leadership and experience to our team and will also be a perfect fit for our locker room. We really enjoyed getting to know L.G. and his great family during this process and look forward to having him join us on campus." Maryland has a lot higher recruiting standards than us obviously, so I don't really see how you can compare the two situations. Illogical. Ferry is trying to infuse experience into his lineup. Ditto for Maryland. Talking about what players did in HS at this point doesn't make sense. Maryland having higher standards and them signing Gill aren't mutually exclusive, so that doesn't make sense. I think we're just taking needless jabs at Gill at this point. Wish the kid luck and let's move on. Offline I got a chance to meet LG's family over three days in Estero, Fl in November. They are nice folks and fairly well to do it seems, as Big Gill owned a number of businesses and even a NBDL franchise in Richmond at one time. Offline I . The longer you don't lock somebody up the slimmer and slimmer the talent gets.. Actually it was my view that the talent got "chunkier and chubbier" Offline Apologies to anyone who finds this offensive or inappropriate, but we had a guy on our floor who would target the most wallflowerish girl at a party, strike up a conversation with her, and get himself as drunk as possible and try to persuade her back to his room. Most girls who came to our parties thought he was the best-looking guy on our floor. His reason for what he did: "They're always grateful." Offline One of my first friends at Duquesne. Real good dude, hope he finds his grove in his final season. Offline Not seeing anything here to make me run for a "safe zone", but seriously: what are the last two posts about? Offline Not seeing anything here to make me run for a "safe zone", but seriously: what are the last two posts about? I'm sure you know my position that programs at our level are built by getting the best players we can, developing them, and having chemistry that carries over from year to year. Tejas Duke made an observation -- and an astute one -- that this stage of the recruiting process for the upcoming season is really about making the most of slim pickings, especially when you're caught off-guard by transfers. I used a real life example to point out that while beauty is in the eye of the beholder, well, sometimes things get stretched. Slim pickings may not be pickings at all. I stand corrected, although it was Tejas' chubbier & chunkier reference that jarred the Lance Romance (as we used to call him) story. But you are correct, it was your original analogy, and it was a good'un.

He's a 6'8 power forward, listed by ESPN's Jeff Borzello and Jeff Goodman as the No. 8 available transfer in college basketball this offseason.
Note the #8 refers to all transfers.

PS, Blackman was a DII recruit out of HS who followed his first coach to Niagara. Abrahamson is playing for his third NCAA team, largely because his last team benched him during the second half of last season. We're still a long way from saying that we've traded up.

Re: LG's choice(s)
LG is very likable and well spoken, the high school he attend in Midlothian, Benedictine Academy, also has produced many great athletes including the starting quarterback for the NFL Seahawks, I believe.
He seemed impressed I knew about it, my cousin went to high school there some years ago.
I also thought LG would have blossomed as a true senior for Duquesne, but given the graduation and a chance to play for a Big Ten power and almost certain NCAA team, I am happy for him.
Home games for his family are but a 2 1/2 hr drive from Powhaten Va. And I bet they make them all.
Good Luck, LG and God's Speed!
A diehard fan since 1961

The most memorable of his pickups was a large-ish, odiferous (BO & cigarettes) young lady with a neard (neck beard) and a single, long, dark, thick eyebrow. •Thread Starter

This is the first time I've read posts on this board and have been unable to decipher who and/or what the posts were addressing.
Obviously, El D's reference is not the same as currentstudent's. Who are each of you talkin' about? It seems Current is talking about L.G.
