High school job? Not exactly. That's a six figure job at the largest basketball factory in the country. There's so much more involved in that job than just coaching

Dudey Moore made a lateral move to LaSalle. Mike Rice took a modest step down to YSU. Edgar got a decent job at SE Missouri St., where he posted an awful record, and got the program put on 2 years probation. Most disastrous hire we made. Ferry looks like Coach K next to him, and Ron looks like John Wooden.

Re: Brian Nash

I'm glad guys can make themselves feel better by saying this is a nonissue. Everyday that passes with his image and bio on the website is a joke and goes to show just how second rate this program is. As to waiting for a replacement don't hold your breath and also don't look for it to amount to anything IMHO.

Re: Brian Nash

Just wondering if there is anyone left on this blog who feels that everything is going well with this program under the current coach. As an eternal optimist, I always see the glass half full. I confess that right now, I can't even see the glass. Couldn't be more disappointed than I am today with the current state of the program. Still hoping that Dave Harper will turn out to be the real savior here. If not, then I see little hope of progress with men's basketball at Duquesne. Can anyone offer something positive here?

Re: Brian Nash

The sun will come out tomorrow....

Seriously, at this point I feel the same as you.  Some do not want to believe that Nash bailing is any big deal, but I think there is more to it.  The bottom line, however, is that JF will have another year possibly two more to prove he can win in the A10, move DU to the top part of the League, and convince Harper he can get us to the NCAA.  He and his staff know they can not crap out next year or it might be their last.  To do that he has gambled on a couple of grad transfers to supplement the young talent he has brought in.  There are in my mind three factors that will determine his fate:

1) Has he recruited well enough?  The League is not exactly standing still waiting for DU to catch up.  Case in point look at the talent LaSalle has brought in.

2)  Can, and how fast can this group jell as a team? This team is not the brick by brick team that was promised.

3)  Can Ferry do a better job as a coach?  Without rehashing his shortcomings,I think most will agree his performance to date has not been very good.  Defensive is key.

I have said this before but our best hope as a program is for Ferry to be successful.  Another coaching change means another rebuild.  It may not be the worse thing if DU can get the right guy this time. Although I am skeptical, I am hoping for Ferry to make a big move next year.  Clearly, Ferry's fate is in his own hands.

Re: Brian Nash

4) Can Ferry finally figure out that the "system" that was successful twice in 10 years at LIU doesn't cut it in the A-10?

5) Can we stop the bleeding of our supposed top recruits  from leaving after 1-2 years? Winters, Watkins, Powell, Gill ... this is why we're scrambling for beer goggle beauties when the party gets late.

I agree CLK, we need Ferry and staff to figure this out. Now. This year. Another collapse like this last season (guess we ran out of cupcakes) will be inexcusable, infuriating, and inhumane.

Park Bench Hoops

PBSources: Duquesne will not hire an asst. from the outside to replace Bryan Nash. Dukes will promote guys from within.

Re: Brian Nash

Why would they not hire a replacement?  Is that a budgetary thing, or does Ferry just not want another coach?

The tennis director made $200,000 in 2012. Safe to say he's making some coin.
