It'll be refreshing, after four years, to see a point guard finish in the paint. I guess you still won't let up, even after the guy has graduated, but just to correct your error, DC COULD JUMP AND WAS ALSO VERY SKILLED AT FINISHING AT THE RIM. He was better at finishing than guys 6-inches taller. For whatever it is worth, assistant coach Rick Gleishman (correct spelling?) was interviewed on a post game radio show toward the end of the year and asked to describe Tarin Smith's abilities. He said, as I recollect, that Train is an athletic 6'2" combo guard who plays plays above the rim, plays relentless defense, can shoot from anywhere on the court, can drive to the hoop and most probably they (the coaches) will have to insert some alley-oop plays into the offense to accommodate his skills. I like the synopsis and based on his showing in the Red-Blue game last year, I agree with the assessment. Now, after a year's practice with his new teammates, if those defined skills translate to the coming year, one of our vacant guard positions will have been more than addressed. I'm sure he'll have chances to display his talents, but the problem in general with many of the "combo" guards is whether they can balance distribution with scoring. Let's hope Tarin can do both for the Dukes. DC had a lot of shots blocked, made a lot of bad passes when he got trapped, and got tied up a lot. But so did everyone else the past four years, Binney, White, Mason, Ridenour.
I've never said he was a bad player, just that we needed to improve at the position to win in the A10.
The proof is in the record.
