Offline A 10 Preseason Power Rankings: Dayton, URI, VCU, Davidson, La Salle, GW, SBU, Richmond, UMass, SJU, Duquesne, George Mason, Fordham, SLU. Offline My thoughts: Offline Agree with your thoughts CLK, well said.Once again no love for us. Last season we went into the season with two undersized guards, and finished with what some said was the best backcourt in the conference. That rankings list had Colter as the #20 A10 player and Mason #10. They both got robbed in my opinion. Colter should have been on the 3rd team and Mason should have at least been on the second. I mean wasnt he the best 3 pt shooter in A10 history combined with all the 20 point games he and Colter both had. Offline I agree. But is the coaching deeper and more talented from last year? Offline Your right about back up pg questions. I'm just holding out hope that between Mike Lewis II and Rene Castro, one or both can step up enough to spell Smith. Steel will probably see more time at the two. If those freshman are good enough to play I think they will. Last year was the first time Ferry seemed to leave kids on the bench and only play that six or seven man rotation, maybe he didn't feel comfortable with where the younger guys were at. From what has been said about the incoming guys I don't think that will be the case with them, and the freshman and sophomores got another offseason so I wouldn't be surprised to see something closer to a 10 man rotation like we have had in the past with his teams. Last edited by Duques102 (6/27/2016 2:07 pm) Offline This looks like more of the same to me, other schools bring in better recruits. Dukes have transfers out of formerly high profile recruits and possibly with a weak OOC schedule and a few wins against as weak conference teams we can limp to a close to 500 record. Offline Don't mourn the lack of love. It's completely earned. Offline I agree. But is the coaching deeper and more talented from last year? Mike Lewis should be back up PG. Watch a ton of tape on him, he shouldn't hurt you while Tarin Smith is resting. Has a pretty game to him. Offline I agree. But is the coaching deeper and more talented from last year? Offline There is nothing significant about the upcoming players. Other schools also bring in strong players and probably have been judged to have a better coaching staff. I will be interested to see the OOC schedule. That will probably determine whether we have another "even" or winning record. Also, I don't think that it is a given that if Ferry has another year without a winning record, that the AD will get rid of him. Not after he said he has his support. Offline I agree. Re: Rothstein's Predictions
1) This is going to be a pressure filled season for Ferry. Duquesne needs to win and finish higher than 10th or Ferry may be in trouble.
2) I think clearly Smith and Blackman will be impact transfers.
3) Given a chance by Ferry I think Mike and Littleson have potential to be impact freshman,
4) Eric James depending on how much he has improved his three point shooting could be a breakout player. •Thread Starter
Re: Rothstein's Predictions
You're right, Smith should have been listed as an impact transfer, and Blackman could be an under the radar transfer averaging 20 pts a game last year. He picked guys who played for bigger schools that averaged like 4 pts 2 asts and 2 rebs. I'm also looking for Mike to make an impact as a freshman and Littleson to definitely contribute as well.
Also like you said, lot of pressure this year. All in all, this team should be deeper and more talented than last year.
Re: Rothstein's Predictions
If Ferry goes SOP and solely plays the upperclassmen without regard to the rest of the team then finishing 11th might be about right.
Plus, who will back up Smith? I can see Smith after 20 games playing 38 plus a game and trying to do it all. At which point, he will be physically and mentally exhausted and probably injured while Littleson(freshmen) and Steel(forever in the doghouse because of the cell phone nonsense) sit the bench.
As for Castro, who knows. He was in 17 games last year for a total of 130 minutes. Not a good indicator of potential.

16 wins should be considered an over achievement.

More do, less talk. That's what we want to see.

Re: Rothstein's Predictions
The truth is, unless proven results take place, same old program.

Here he is playing on ESPN against Oak Hill. He has a sub par first half but second half shows his true capabilities. His school is a national ranked school so a lot of their games can be found on youtube.
