July 1st

President Gormley has officially started as president of Duquesne. Hopefully this ushers in a new era of attention to athletics, specifically the Men's basketball team

Gormley says he understands the opportunity a top 50 program can bring to the university, now lets see if it can happen.

Re: July 1st

Understanding has absolutely nothing to do with acting on it.  There are a lot of things I understand.  That doesn't mean I will move ahead to change them all.

Re: July 1st

I'm in favor of giving the new president and the new AD the opportunity to see what they can and will do.

I know some of our fellow posters are not happy with one choice or the other, or both. I'm completely neutral at this point, but I think we all agree we want to see both the university and the athletic department prosper. We'll all judge the latter by men's basketball. Gormley can only provide the resources and support, Harper can only set a direction, Ferry's got to get the job done on the court.

Ferry's has better resources with which to work than his predecessors. He's recruited his players. He has to prove he can keep them and develop them, create continuity and success and be able to sustain it for a long period. His track record at LIU was not exactly sterling. Many losing years before the two NCAA tournament trips. This is year 5. Let's get it done.
