David Finoli is putting out a new book. This time, the subject is Duquesne Dukes men's basketball. Several years ago I had the pleasure to speak to Duquesne's starting point guard on that National Champion Team, he lives in nearby Bonita Springs, Fl. PS- Mickey Winograd is the Duquesne great I wrote about on the last post. You got me beat, Phildog! Kudos for hangin' in there. Winograd was a prosecutor in northern NJ some time back. El D El D There were lots of good Jewish hoopsters when large numbers of Jewish people still lived in the "hood". Thanks Blufftalk. I bought a hard copy on Amazon (actually used AMEX points so technically it was free). After I read it, it will be proudly displayed in a bookcase in my office alongside copies of "Misadventures in Broadcasting" by Ray Goss and "Happiness is Like a Cur Dog" by Nellie King. FWIW, the top of the bookcase has a Norm Nixon autographed basketball and a nicely displayed Nellie King baseball card. The wall above has a frame with sports cards of Duquesne athletes gone pro (Nixon, Si Green, Mickey Davis, Mike James, Leigh Bodden, Joe Beimel, Korie Hlede, Ricketts brothers, Mike Barr, Chip Ganassi and Derrick Alston). I have a bunch of old media guides on the bookshelf as well. That is awesome. Thank YOU! That's awesome. Enjoy! Yes, great board! Unfortunately, can't post an image. Will this be sold at bookstores at all? I'm thinking the Barnes & Nobel near Duquesne's campus, where I can walk from work & have an unused gift card. Dribble, that's a MAYBE. Same goes for anywhere online other than Amazon. No problem. I'll get it on Amazon. Thanks! Thx, buddy! Just rec'd book and read it today. Happy to hear those words and even happier that you enjoyed the book. Thank you for the kind words. Thanks Blufftalk. Hey, my Steelers stash (including an autographed photo of the Steel Curtain and a football signed by Antonio Brown), my Yankees stash (autographed Don Mattingly and Ron Guidry baseballs and a couple original Mickey Mantle baseball cards), my NY Rangers stash (Eddie Giacomin, Brad Park, Mike Richter and Brian Leetch autographed pucks) and my Knicks stash (Clyde Frazier autograph) cover the other walls. Also have some cool beer tap handles and some nifty bobbleheads. But the DU display has its own corner. New Duquesne MBB Book
The focus of the book is the 1955 national-championship team, but the book also includes a chapter on the downfall of the program since then.
The book should cost fewer than $20. Stay tuned for a link on how to order.

Re: New Duquesne MBB Book
Mickey, a well spoken retired NYC prosecutor, was charming and informative. I later learned he was a Two Time All -America Honerable Mention guard. He said the team was small with only Ricketts at 6-7 a true big player, but fast and really good.
I would love to buy a copy of any book with that Championship Team as the topic, please post the info when available, and thanks for the update.

Re: New Duquesne MBB Book
Back in the day there were very good Jewish roundballers coming out of NY and Mickey was one of them.
The Dukes were one of the few big time basketball schools to heavily recruit black players and NYC was a hot bed, also the East Coast was full of great Jewish athletes.
I wish I was a little older to have followed it , since I was only 6 years old at the time.

Re: New Duquesne MBB Book
The presentation of the story, 1955 Championship is unique, a game by game coverage with box scores and also reporters comments included is cool.
I learned that Dick Ricketts was the best ever to play at Duquesne, period. Wow, he overwhelmed everyone.
If you like the Dukes, buy this and even an old timer that started in 1961 ( Dukes reached #3 ) learned a lot.

Let's hope that under the direction of our new AD, Dave Harper, that Duquesne athletics, including overall management, teams' performance, and facilities, will significantly improve, especially the men's basketball team, so that you may have good reason to add additional items to your Dukes' Shrine.
