I read on the website that women's soccer Coach Al Alvine got a contract extension until the 2020 season. That is very positive news in regard to Duquesne sports programs in general. Good to see they rewarded a successful coach, giving him a chance to continue building a strong program and defend the A-10 title. It's good to extend a contract as a reward for success. Ditto for Dan Burt. This forum is hosted for free by Boardhost. Create your own free forum!
Contract extension.
I'm posting this because it represents a major improvement for DU athletics.
A year ago, I was told by a head coach of one the Olympic programs that the only head coaches that received multi year contracts were men's bb, women's bb and football. All other head coaches were on a year to year basis. This head coach said it made recuiting in the A10 very difficult.
I was shocked that every year they had to renew their contract for another season. The coach said while that was common practice in the A10 and college sports 20 years ago, DU was the last A10 school doing this.
Perhaps another sign the school is finally serious about athletics.
I put this in men's basketball only because there was no other forum for it.
