What if?

Please put political affinity and economic belief aside for this ...

Let's say 3 months after the new president takes office that the House and Senate enact a bill that provides free college education for anyone who wants it. How will this affect college sports?

Athletic scholarships go away. They're no longer necessary. What happens after that?

The NCAA would cease to exist, at least in its present form. It would be replaced by an executive whose job includes negotiating broadcast contracts, scheduling the tournaments, etc.

The rich would get richer. The power conferences would hoard and stash players. Freshmen and JV teams would let them do that, and give players PT.

The poor might cease to exist. A Duquesne might offer some other incentives to try to attract players, but I suspect it won't ease the lure of playing "big time." I can see the program being de-emphasized or eliminated.

Our WBB program, on the other hand, might benefit, since they recruit globally. Could become a major power.

Anyone see it differently?
