Re: St. John's Game Day

remembering the beatdown they put on st john's last year over christmas break...let's hope they there's a repeat performance after being so stagnant for 30 minutes against Lehigh

Re: St. John's Game Day

I think that the starting five lineup should be changed from that which was used in the first two games.  Two of the starting five have FG % at .111 and lower.  Nina Aho has made only 1 0f 9 FG attempts, and Connor Richardson has managed to make only 1 of 14.  Many of their shots are without any noticeable defensive pressure.  While I recognize that this is only the third game of the season the Dukes' FG shooting percentage is only .312 as a team.  I believe that the team will be better served by starting Brianna Thomas or Juliana Vojinovic whose shooting percentage exceeds that of the team average in place of sophomore Connor.

According to Sagarin predictor scores (11/17/16) St John's is favored by 9.63 points.  I believe this is a game the Dukes can win and enhance their ranking with a road victory over a higher ranked team according to Sagarin (SJU @ 42; Dukes @ 67).  Continued poor shooting by the Dukes will likely will result in a loss tonight.

GO DUKES! Beat the Red Storm like you did last season!

Re: St. John's Game Day

Dukes up by 7 points at beginning of 4th Q.  The Dukes were down by around 13 points in the 2nd Q.  Great come back in the 3rd, outscoring SJU 24-5.  Chassidy is playing at the top of her game.

Re: St. John's Game Day

Ladies WIN by 6 -  Chassidy MAKES 8 FREE THROWS AT THE END -  Great having that one player - you can put the ball in her hands - let them foul her and have a LOT of confidence in the end -  Amadea wound up with like 17 - Kadri Ann had 13 rebounds -  Nina also made 4 big free throws down the stretch.

BEAT IONA!!!!

Re: St. John's Game Day

Dukes win big at St. John's, 71-65.  Omogrosso tops the Dukes' scoring with 25 points, a career high for her.  Szomosi with 18 points and Aho with her young career high of 12.  Kadri-Ann Lass owned the boards getting 13 rebounds but only 4 points.

GO DUKES!

Re: St. John's Game Day

Wow! What a comeback. Switching defense that made the Johnnies shoot from outside and then dominating the boards really turned the game. Chassidy O. was outstanding and the team pounded the ball inside. Nina Aho starting to understand. Beat Iona!

Re: St. John's Game Day

I must say that the ESPN3 announcers knew how to pronounce correctly the Dukes' players' names.  Saying "Szomosi" didn't seem to give them a problem nor did the St. John's PA announcer stumble over any of the names that I could hear in the background as the game progressed.  The ESPN3 announcers were very complimentary toward Chassidy and frequently mentioned her star status as a high school player in western PA.  Also compliments were thrown Dan Burt's way on his coaching abilities and his success in recruiting high quality European players to play for him at Duquesne University.

There was a lot more cohesion in the Dukes' play tonight compared to what I saw at Ohio State and at the Palumbo on Sunday afternoon against Lehigh. This was a quality win on the road, where St. John's rarely looses its home opener, against a very good St. John's team.  Congratulations to the Dukes and its fine coaches!

Re: St. John's Game Day

Always glad when my fellow announcers get names right!  It was so brutal at times last year hearing "Suh-moo-she" "Gronnis" and "De-vine-er"

Re: St. John's Game Day

I'm thinking back to the offseason when many faithful were ready to kick Chassidy to the bench for a variety of invalid reasons (e.g., her height).

Folks, you've got a budding star here. Give the kid the respect she deserves.

Also, as long as Dan Burt is the coach, I will always think we're in a game no matter what the score is, and I will always believe we can win no matter the opponent.

Dan Burt is a highly talented coach.

Re: St. John's Game Day

I searched both the Pgh. P-G and Tribune-Review on-line for any coverage of the Dukes' - St. John's game and found none.

Post-game press conference with St. John's Coach Tartamella following the Dukes' 71-65 win over the Red Storm:  http://www.redstormsports.com/collegesportslive/?media=542614

I really think it was only one poster.  (Not me.).   Chassidy has always delivered.

I said it here last year (at least I think I did - I'm too lazy to look for it) - Chassidy will be like April Robinson in that because of all the playing time & experience she got in her freshman year, she'll play like a senior the rest of her college career.  She'll be a bright spot for us until she graduates.  She certainly took over the second half at St. John's.
