WHY ARE THE LADIES SO UNDERAPPRECIATED?

Consider some of the Home Schedule:

Lehigh - Sunday Afternoon Game (at least the time didn't conflict with the Steelers)

Buffalo - Tuesday Afternoon????????   I know it's close to Thanksgiving but????

Charlotte -  Tuesday Night at 5:00 --  (I work on the North Side - would get done in time to make it -  How many "fans" aren't so lucky?)

Lafayette - Sunday Afternoon -

Pitt -  Weekday Afternoon (know "it's between Christmas and New Year's but???)  Am "saving my LAST Vacation Day of the Year for THIS one)

G.W -  New Years Day - Sunday Afternoon -  Conflict with NFL etc.  -  Don't know how good GW will be without Jacque Jones - Still could be one of the better league games -  (UNLESS THE WEATHER IS REALLY CRAPPY - I'M PICKING THE LADIES OVER STEELERS-BROWNIES!!)

Eight Straight 20 plus win seasons - as they say on ESPN "C"MON MAN"

Re: WHY ARE THE LADIES SO UNDERAPPRECIATED?

I think there should be a thousand people or more every game. If I had men's season tickets and lived in the area, I'd swap them for tickets to see the women.

Re: WHY ARE THE LADIES SO UNDERAPPRECIATED?

El Duque - My SEASON tickets for the Ladies cost $25.00 -  (and can sit ANYWHERE) - Most Expensive Guys single game tickets - $25.00 -  I invite ANYONE to "do the math" -  Sure there are other costs involved (parking, if you want to grab a bite to eat) etc.

WERE ALL THE ATHLETIC TICKET HOLDERS(Men's BB - Mens FB etc) GIVEN THIS CHANCE TO PURCHASE THEM AT THIS PRICE OR MADE AWARE OF THIS??  (I grabbed a flyer at the Tournament Selection Party - THOUGHT IT WAS A MISPRINT)  Were former players & other female athletes who may have graduated targeted with a mailing about this.

Were probably between 100 and 200 in the stands at the Lehigh game.

John Wooden said "Watching the ladies is MORE enjoyable than watching the guys - the ladies play the game BELOW the rim - the guys play ABOVE the rim"  Sure watching an Alley-Oop etc is exciting - but what about the lob pass that MISSES ON THE THREE ON ONE BREAK??

Re: WHY ARE THE LADIES SO UNDERAPPRECIATED?

Just so NOTHING in my previous post is Misunderstood or Read the Wrong Way -  NO negativity towards El Duque -  We NEED MORE fans like him (passionate etc)

The MAIN thrust of the first post was 'WE HAVE A DAMN GOOD LADIES TEAM - WHY ARE WE MAKING IT MORE DIFFICULT FOR AN AVERAGE/CASUAL FAN TO SEE THEM -  WHY ARE WE MAKING IT MORE DIFFICULT FOR THE FAN BASE THEY ALREADY HAVE TO SEE THEM?

Re: WHY ARE THE LADIES SO UNDERAPPRECIATED?

Every women's team in the country I believe schedules a game during the day as at outreach to school kids.  I have no problem with that.

The game vs Pitt I have to work as well and will miss it and I'm quite disappointed in that.

Sunday afternoons vs the NFL can't be avoided.

But I agree.   I want to see them play and the Pitt game in the afternoon is inexplicable.

Re: WHY ARE THE LADIES SO UNDERAPPRECIATED?

A few more items.  There was not even a single student in the Crew section vs Lehigh.  DU students have zero support for DU.  It is sad.

And it is not like the school has done anything to promote WBB.    Harper regime is just Amodio Part 2.  Lip service and that's it.   (Contract to Burt aside).

And someone should tell the geniuses at DU that ESPN 970 has been running the same commercial every morning and afternoon for a month.  Come see the Dukes this Saturday play crosstown rival Robert Morris at Rooney Field.   The game was October 15.

I can't believe that no one at the school cares enough to check ads or correct ESPN 970.    I heard the commercial this morning as a matter of fact.

The more things change the more they stay the same.

Re: WHY ARE THE LADIES SO UNDERAPPRECIATED?

The time of the Buffalo game is the only one that I can't figure.  I can escape from the office for an extra long "lunch" to be there.

I believe in most recent years, the Duquesne-Pitt game has been played on a weekday during the holiday season.  It always seems to draw a good crowd.  I'll use a vacation day to be there.

The likely reason for playing the Charlotte game at 5:00 is so it doesn't compete with the men's game vs. Robert Morris at the Arena at 7:00 that same evening.

Why are the ladies unappreciated?  There's no accounting for taste.  Lady Gaga can sell out the Arena but if Thelonious Monk were alive today, he'd have to play in small nightclubs.  That's just the way people are when they look for entertainment.  They follow the hype.

I'm not concerned about competing with football on New Years Day or NFL Sundays.  I don't think that the women's basketball team's fan demographic includes many rabid football fans.  At one game last year, a fan in my row asked who had won the previous year's Super Bowl.  There must have been 10-12 people in the row & nobody knew.

Re: WHY ARE THE LADIES SO UNDERAPPRECIATED?

Unfortunately, this isn't a problem that is unique to Duquesne. With the exception of uconn, ND, and a couple of the other top programs, there just isn't much interest in the women's game. We have short attention spans which is why Americans don't like soccer. We want to see action (aka dunks). Even professionally, the wnba is subsidized by the NBA.

Re: WHY ARE THE LADIES SO UNDERAPPRECIATED?

Oficer Dribble:  NICE point - I didn't know about the Bobby Mo game being the same - day had the men's HOME schedule in front of me and of course Bobby Mo wasn't on that.  We've heard the phrase "competing for the entertainment dollar"  while we probably are not competing with too many Steeler Fans etc - why NOT still hope that they would have some interest - And it was not just some of the odd times but some of the best attractions as well  -- they probably do get a decent crowd when Pitt comes in on a Tuesday Afternoon -  but college football etc BE DAMNED wonder what kind of crowd they get if it is a Saturday Afternoon/Saturday Night??

Thing about the GW Game -  COULD be ONE of the best draws to come in -  NOT just competing with the NFL etc but on New Years Day???

Dukes 2012 - You are also correct - when the ladies were average/below average - I would go to maybe 2-3 games per year - but now that they are pretty damn good - maybe they deserve more than the 100 or so that showed up at Lehigh, and was thinking time/date should NOT be additional road blocks placed in front of them.

Re: WHY ARE THE LADIES SO UNDERAPPRECIATED?

If ANY ONE in the Administration and or the Athletic Department said something along these lines - THEY SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM THEIR POSITION IF NOT TERMINATED -  It is to be expected that more attention will be devoted to the guys -  To say DON'T worry about the ladies ONLY care about the guys - IS ABSOLUTELY MIND BOGGLING!!!!!
