L.G. Gill

Going into today's game against Pitt Gill has started 1 of their 6 games. He is averaging 13 plus minutes per game scoring 4.7 and just 2 rebounds per game. The most interesting stat is that he has taken 15 shots and not one of them was a 3 pointer. He played about 1.5 minutes in the 2nd half tonight and he didn't score in the 1st half if he even got into the game. I thought he'd be doing a little better but it's still early.

We saw Gill for 3 years. Why would anyone be surprised that he's not very good?

Re: L.G. Gill

I think he has talent. I just don't think Ferry used him the right way. On an ACC team his talent might have translated into more minutes and a bigger role if he'd had better coaching the first three years.

PS Blackman looks like a total bust right now.

After seeing the grad transfer rule for a while, I think guys who transfer up are making a mistake. I've seen very few of these guys who were good players at a lower level, make much of an impact at higher level schools. I think it makes much more sense when a guy who has been buried at a higher level school, transfers down. A guy who is buried on the bench at Michigan St. is much more likely to make a difference at Duquesne, than some kid at Duquesne is going to make at Michigan St.

Re: L.G. Gill

For those interested, Gill now rides the pine as he's been replaced by a frosh who is one of three on Terps' starting 5.  Not too bad after wins over G'town, K-State and even Richmond (in OT) at Barclays.  At last night's presser, Coach Stallings mentioned MD looked tired and Pitt lucky to catch them at right time.  On other hand, Coach Turgeon, who served with Stallings, both under Roy Williams, remarked simply, "Pitt played great", without excuse of him starting 3 frosh, or it's a process.  Meantime, Turgeon has MD a not too shabby 7 and 1.
