Nail in the coffin!

The Ferry has sunk to the bottom of the Mon.

It took a disaster to rid ourselves of Nee. I don't see any way Ferry can survive this. I don't root for the Dukes to lose, but......................................................
Let's just say I won't be upset as the losses pile up.

Re: Nail in the coffin!

What is the over/under on Ferry using the word "I" in his presser?

I'd set the line at 0.5 and take the under.

Re: Nail in the coffin!

Yep. I'm ready for a new start. If we don't have mass transfers, the next coach won't have a bare cupboard.

Re: Nail in the coffin!

After watching some of it streamed on my computer, I am guessing that with the players, vendors, police, and scorers, there were 600 there at the most.  I wonder if they will honestly post the attendance.  And folks...we haven't even gotten into league play yet.

This is the key. There is some talent there. I'd love to see what a good coach could do with it. The one good thing is that Smith, Castro, and Robinson have already burned their extra year, and are pretty much stuck here. If the freshmen stay, the cupboard won't be bare.

Re: Nail in the coffin!

I'm going to "Pull A Monk"  - Does anyone remember the television show about the Quirky Detective named Adrian Monk who would solve the cases in an unusual way and say 'THIS IS WHAT REALLY HAPPENED"

I just shook my head at the article in the paper the other day that mentioned "the metrics" were wrong for Duquesne this year -  Well LAST year with a 4 year starter at PG - a 5th year senior with 3 years at the other guard position -  MAYBE the metrics should have had the Dukes better than 500??

It's not even December and the team has lost at HOME to - Mansfield State, Canisus, Tennesse-Martin, and UBMC.  (Prediction Robert Morris 60 DU 55 - Coach laments "how the background/lighting at the Arena affected our shooting (of course ignoring the fact that Bobby Mo doesn't play there regularly)

Why in his FIFTH YEAR in the program - when EVERYONE is one of his recruits - is the team so heavily reliant on freshmen??

Maybe it's time we follow the Purdue Football Model and "reassign" Mr. Ferry to "another job within the organization"

Have heard the old cliche - Fool Me Once (Mansfield St) - Shame on You --  Fool Me Twice (Canisus) - Shame on Me.  Was at both of those games -  DON'T know what comes next -  AND AM NOT GOING TO FIND OUT!!!!

Re: Nail in the coffin!

I'm actually feeling calm. This is like being someone who wants to get rid of his wife, but doesn't know how. Then he finds out she's been cheating. He's pissed, but happy, because he knows the door has been opened, and he can now kick her to the curb with no second thoughts, or controversy.

Re: Nail in the coffin!

What is really sad is that the UMBC coach is a first year coach.  He ran multiple switching defenses that confused the Dukes and had an offense that shared the basketball and had 16 assist with only 10 turnovers. Ferry with the exception of the freshman have had most of his players with several years under his coaching and his players have no clue on how to play team defense and can't run simple plays without turning the ball over, and usually reverts to selfish street ball.  Grab a snickers bar it is going to be an ugly rest of the season.

Maybe Bobby Mo can get on a roll. Andy Toole would have been such an easy choice two years ago, but he seems to have hit a wall.

Maybe we can steal him. He can't be making much money. Hiring a coach is such a crapshoot. The folks at St. John's were so happy when they hired Chris Mullin. They were blown out at home yesterday by one of the worst teams in D1, and the fanbase is starting to get restless.

Jon Rothstein Duquesne loses a buy game to UMBC. The epitome of brutality.

Re: Nail in the coffin!

22 fouls, 17 turnovers, and we got to the free throw line 3 times.

Been practicing since October, played a record number of November games.

This is bad.

Duq 81 I told you this 5 years ago Stevie Wonder could have saw this train wreck. Ron was and is the only viable option to fix this mess.  If you only knew what he was up against.

Re: Nail in the coffin!

Gents I rest my case!!!  This man shouldn't be permitted to contaminate even a grade school team. His decisions on playing time beg the question does he just want his money so he can go home.

We know the Athletic Department is full of clowns. It's been that way since the mid 70s. That said, No one knew if Ferry was any good or not. Amodio wanted to bring his boy Dino in here. We didn't want Dino, and to his credit, Dino was smart enough to stay away. GA then went after the guy at Akron. Dambrot has done a nice job at Akron, but fell on his face when he left the first time. He was smart enough to know that some guys are a good fit in certain spots, and that it's not always transferable. Third choice Ferry was the low major flavor of the year, just like Mike Rice Jr. before him (who of course, failed at Rutgers). Ron shouldn't have been fired, but his seat needed to be a bit warm. I'd have given him 2 more years, but he was going to have to get the team back to where they were his third year. You can't keep your job forever by going to the CBI. The biggest problem most on this board had with Ron being fired was the disrespectful way it was carried out.

Re: Nail in the coffin!

VBC: I am much calmer having given up my season tickets last year. I no longer feel like I have been taken advantage of. I no longer leave Palumbo angry. Duquesne sold a bucket of crap for years. It took some time to cut the ties emotionally, but I am glad that I did. Sorry for your pain. Say hi to the remaining group for me.

We stink and Ferry needs to be fired sooner rather than later......end of story.  I am at least glad I didn't watch this debacle tonight.

End of the year. The worst thing would be to fire him now and put some assistant in charge. The team plays halfway decent, and now the players are demanding that he get the job. No thanks.

Re: Nail in the coffin!

I watched of and on and wasn't surprised by the Dukes play, but then JRob got in. He was dealing down low scoring over double teams and hit 4 quick buckets, grabbed 3 rebounds, Jarrett is saying , they can't stop him, he is just too strong.

Then he was taken out and only got in for 1 min.

Final line 4/5, 3 rebounds, 8 points, 9 min.

I can't imagine why Duquesne keeps losing when they are so deep that they can bury this guy on the bench.

Re: Nail in the coffin!

Please go over to the athletic website and watch Ferry's post game presser. I know it will be another waste of 7 minutes of your life but it will give you a idea of just how delusional this guy is.  His response to JRob specifically has to be seen.

Re: Nail in the coffin!

Just watched the post game presser. "...Jordan needs to improve defensively..." "....hard to play Jordan....". Once again, Coach Ferry has put his dislike for JRob above the team. Anybody who watched the game last night saw the level of destruction JRob inflicted on UMBC. Zero turnovers, 1 PF, 3 rebounds (2 offensive), 1 block, 1 assist to go along with 8 points......in 9 minutes?! I have no doubt that Coach Ferry gets 'thank you' notes from opposing coaches for leaving JRob on the bench. I no longer watch The Big Bang Theory. If I want to laugh until I cry, I simply watch Coach Ferry's post game pressers.
