Dukes at Ohio University

Dukes are looking very bad in the 1st Q.  They are down 13-5 with 5:30 to go in Q.  Dukes are totally inept in stopping Ohio from scoring.

Re: Dukes at Ohio University

Dukes losing 60-36 with 6:54 to go in 4th Q.  Worst game that I have seen the Dukes play this season.  Duquesne has 20 TOs: Ohio 11.

Re: Dukes at Ohio University

Dukes, 4-5 (0-1), will limp back to the Burgh with a 64-46 loss to Ohio (6-0).  This is a team that is making a lot of miscues, particularly turnovers.

Judith Sole saw no action today.  Could she be a candidate for a medical redshirt?

Re: Dukes at Ohio University

Since Judith also sat out a year due to transferring - don't know if she could be redshirted (that involves a six year clock)  Looks like other players were not on the bench the last two games as well (Waskowiak, Kuttor)

Team seems to miss Robinson and Workman - not only because they were TERRIFIC players - but they could create things for others -  If the ball was in their hands - 7-9 seconds on the shot clock at half court - they could either beat players of the dribble and get a layup/a foul/ an easy shot for someone else.

Don't look like we have someone who can currently do that -  Chassidy is an excellent player - but a set shooter - and does have problems when she tries to penetrate.  Right now Connor might be the best we have at that -  Juliana tried some today with little luck and Nina might be that player in the future. Kadri-Ann and Amadea can work some passes to each other from the top of the key and under the hoop - but don't want to see one with the ball at half court with 7 seconds on the shot clock. Haven't seen enough of Halle to form an opinion -

While I hoped they would have more than 4 wins at this point - seven of the nine games have been away from Palumbo Center and some of the teams they lost to have pretty good records. Some of the wins (Lehigh, St. Johns & Iona) were over some pretty solid teams as well.

Hopefully they play better on Tuesday and start turning things around.

Re: Dukes at Ohio University

I had a feeling this team would struggle a little bit this year. They are kind of similar to the men's team in that they lost their two biggest scorers and playmakers, and are trying to replace them with younger players.

Re: Dukes at Ohio University

Tough game today. I think this team will have growing pains.  Watching the game, I think Aho should be the guard.  She is more of a pass first score second.  I think Omogrosso is shoot first and pass second.  I think she is having trouble with the bigger athletic guards covering her.  The Post players seem to be inconsistent.
Too many turnovers, as well.  This is part of losing three very contributing starters from last year.  The key was Robinson.  She took care of the ball and made people better.  A true point guard. I think Aho will become that when she gets more comfortable.  I know that you mentioned Erin and Judith, but I think we have some really good bigs.  Just our guard play.  Coach just needs to get them prepared for the next game.

Re: Dukes at Ohio University

This should answer several questions concerning the team. Dan said the starting point guard was under the weather. Expect Sole back around Christmas and Erin has been practicing well so she could be back as soon as Tuesday.

I was in Athens and have this from the game.

Re: Dukes at Ohio University

I agreed with DuqBeach about the guard position and the unconsistency of our post player (Lass). Otherwise, I really enjoyed seeing play our second unit on the fourth quarter. I would like to see more from Samson in the next fews games.
