Offline I just watched George Mason destroy PSU at Happy Valley. Their head coach is in his 2nd year, Dave Paulson, coming over from Bucknell in the Patriot League. In his first year they won the most games since they joined the A-10. It can be done!!! Believe me Mason's facilities are not much better than ours but I believe they have plans to spend money. Offline I attended the Dukes game at Mason a few years ago, and they have a much larger and more impressive facility than Duquesne. I was very impressed. Their team was pretty bad then and they lost by a pretty wide margin to the Dukes. Your point is still valid though that it can be done with the right facilities, support and coaching. If we do hire another coach, please don't hire another guy that wants to play up tempo but is stumped by a he half court game. Offline I just watched George Mason destroy PSU at Happy Valley. Offline 81 for some reason that is a black hole for coaches and that would have been a really interesting hire. I've been to Mason several times and didn't find the facility to be impressive but that just my opinion. It is bigger not sure how much. Last edited by The Dome (12/10/2016 5:42 pm) Offline The league is as bad as it's been in a while, so maybe they might steal one or two. Rhode Island continues to disappoint. VCU has slid without Shaka. Only Dayton seems to be holding up the league's honor. Offline Yes they will but...... Offline Sagarin has Fordham at 206; DU at 211 and St Louis at 294. My question isn't if they will win 3 games but is Offline Besides issues about the coach, an equally if not more important issue Offline Besides issues about the coach, an equally if not more important issue He can't do much with that product though. I will say this time and time again....win and they will come. Offline I do not believe that the Dukes will win 3 league games. I am seeing no road wins and maybe I or 2 at home! For anything more, it would take a complete change in coaching philosophy. Our strength is certainly not in shooting 3 pointers all night. Need to get to the rim and JR needs to play more. My 2 cents worth. Offline I will go with three conference wins. I do have a question for the board though. Is anyone aware of any stipulation in our arrangement with the A-10 that says something like if you do not achieve an RPI threshold of ______ in ______ consecutive seasons you will be bounced. Or how about if your game attendance does not average more than ______ for ______ consecutive years, you will be bounced? Thanks in advance. Online! This team chucked up 25 3 point shots vs. CCSU, nearly half of all shot attempts. They were also outrebounded in this game. How does that happen against the worst team in the NEC, a bottom dweller? Thanks in advance. i don't have a straight up answer, and I think it would be a little deeper and more complicated than that, but this is relevant. Offline Yak- excellent article. Maybe it will wake folks up at DU to either go to a lower conference where we belong with this program - Maybe that is Ferry's goal too - he might be able to compete in the lower conferences but I really don't think it would improve attendance. I look at the attendance issues of DU basketball as the same ones Pitt has had in football the last 10 years. If Pitt is playing a good program such as Penn State, Florida, Notre Dame at home fans will come not to see Pitt, but because they are playing a good team. When the Dukes played a good team in the past, fans would go to see that other team. When it wasn't a good team, the place was almost empty because no one wanted to see the Dukes lose. Offline We aren't dropping down to a lower conference. There's as much of a chance of that happening as Harper bringing Ron back. Offline First, I "HOPE" that does not happen. But it would not surprise me if that takes place since this program has sucked for the last 5 years and before Ron, at least 10 years before that. And again...this isn't about Ron, but about the program. We aren't dropping down to a lower conference. There's as much of a chance of that happening as Harper bringing Ron back. Offline We aren't dropping down to a lower conference. There's as much of a chance of that happening as Harper bringing Ron back. The lynch mob is forming for the new AD at Pitt as we speak. He is being blamed for running off Dixon, and hiring a bum in Kevin Stallings. He gets no credit for Narduzzi, as he didn't hire him. Losing equals empty seats in most places, as Pitt's shrinking basketball crowds illustrate. The Penguins bandwagon is full now, but the Arena was a ghost town a dozen years ago. This photo illustrates it better than anything I can say. Offline Dukes won't leave A10 because of SBU. If the Dukes drop out of the A10 and down to a lesser
WILL THE DUKES WIN MORE THAN 3 LEAGUE GAMES
Re: WILL THE DUKES WIN MORE THAN 3 LEAGUE GAMES
Again, I was very impressed with the UMBC offense, they just played beautiful basketball, so refreshing to watch but painful because it's something we can't have at Duquesne.

As an aside, Pat Chambers must be Ferry's twin. He's an awful coach. He's been there a year longer than Ferry, and beside winning some recruiting battles, he's done nothing. Maybe they should have hired Ron.

Re: WILL THE DUKES WIN MORE THAN 3 LEAGUE GAMES
Dukes won 6 last year in the league.. I would project 4 perhaps 5 wins.
Jackson St and Colgate are two more possible wins though who knows based on has happened to date.
Best record, as of now, appears to be 12-19,
Re: WILL THE DUKES WIN MORE THAN 3 LEAGUE GAMES
GW - 136
Fordham- 198
Dukes - 215
SLU - 291
Projecting the Dukes to finish:
Based on straight up match ups: 10-21; 3-15 in conference
Based on probabilities: 12-19; 6-12 in conference.
Year 5. Unbelievable.

"Will Duquesne retain Ferry for next year?"
If they really care about the program, they will look for a better coach.
Re: WILL THE DUKES WIN MORE THAN 3 LEAGUE GAMES
is attendance.
At 948 per game, DU is 13 out of 14 in the A10. Fordham is last.
If DU was in the NEC, their attendance would put them 6 out of 10.
Harper, if ultimately successful in a turnaround, will have certainly earned his pay.

Re: WILL THE DUKES WIN MORE THAN 3 LEAGUE GAMES
Would it really matter if the Dukes went to a lower conference? The attendance would be the same, the cost probably less, and since Duquesne isn't investing in a strong coach who can have them win, they would be more competitive. I am at the point now with this program that every day I am becoming less and less interested. If Duquesne doesn't care, why should others. For them, going to a lower conference could only help. For me, I will be saying good-by to this board and DU basketball even though that is probably the best thing for them since they haven't been able to compete.

Maybe they throw us out for lack of interest, but I guess every league needs the bottom feeders who are a pretty sure win for the other teams.

Besides the facts they should bring back Ron the current line of BS is WIN and everything will solve this all time low point in the program. Yeah if I win the power ball I would be a millionaire "No S$$t!" Let's face it over 50 we all grew up following the Dukes. Under 50 never was there an interest except for the students who were on the bluff during Rons tenure.IEven if this train wreck is turned around the majority of the season ticket holders are done! Maybe a phone call to the Pitt AD who brought back the disenfranchised Pederson haters within 3 months of his tenure. Hard work & change is the answer.

This was taken during the 3rd quarter of Sunday's game in Cleveland between the Browns and Bengals. The Cleveland Browns once had a fanbase that was second to none in American pro sports. This is what losing does to fanbases.
Re: WILL THE DUKES WIN MORE THAN 3 LEAGUE GAMES
conference, the perception would be they are a lesser institution, a university comparable to the MAAC schools, a perception DU does not want to convey. If SBU can have success then DU should have success.
Plus the Dukes are competitive in other A10 sports.
