Jackson St. Game

Anybody expecting our Dukes to look like they've improved after all the practice over the last week? Coach said we needed practice now let's see what he got accomplished. Not sure why but I think we are going to have a good day. Of course if we stink it up coach will tell us that's expected after a long layoff.

Wait, we got two more days to practice. I'm starting to feel sorry for Jackson St.

Re: Jackson St. Game

I know some of you are confident, but I just don't have a good feeling about this.  Jackson State is a big powerhouse and Duquesne, after the coaches extra time with them, may be feeling overconfident.  Not sure what Ferry's game plan is but I bet if folks listen closely in the stands, they can probably hear it.

When I first saw your original post I panicked and checked my tickets.  I know I sure need 2 more days to prepare.

Sorry about that. Found out shortly after original post that game was Monday.

Re: Jackson St. Game

What I would like to see is a more patterned play, with some sets and attempting to use the size and bulk up front.

Mike and Lewis II are young freshmen and at times have played that way, other times they flashed some brilliant play.

Littleston seems to need to have some set plays rather than firing three's with little success , some inside out might give him the confidence to be more M Mason like.

I would like to see James get back into last years form, maybe more playing time.

And the selfish play of the other guards has not produced winning basketball, a few more assists out of them would help.

Plus we have a 7 footer, why not feed him and get the other teams bigs in foul trouble,

My sixteen win year seems like a bad bet, but who knows, Merry Christmas Posters!

A big powerhouse? What the hell are you talking about?

Why not feed a post player? Phil, Phil, Phil, unless Lewis is willing to launch threes he's not getting touches. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you!

Re: Jackson St. Game

You guys might have missed Ferry's post-game last time, when he said it was a big win. It was a big win because the team finished a close game with a W.

OK, Jim. Now the team will turn things around. When we play Kentucky again {in the NCAA's) we will crush them.

For me, two more days of drinking to get ready.

Re: Jackson St. Game

7pm tip Monday at AJ Palumbo Center. Per KenPom:
Dukes #216 (4-6) vs Jackson State #295 (3-8)
Jackson St. is ranked 3rd of 10 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (ranked as the weakest of the 32 conferences).
Game prediction: Dukes by 8, 74-66 - Dukes with a 76% probability of a win.

Re: Jackson St. Game

After a solid week of practice, can we expect new combinations on the floor? Robinson, Sanders and Mike on the floor at the same time running a high-low post and protected on defense by a 1-3-1 zone would be sweet! But I expect the same tired things, a close game and more of the same post game commentary. Oh well, we can dream, can't we? Go Dukes!

Re: Jackson St. Game

I've already greatly decreased my forum contributions this year because of the disappointing start. If we don't win this one I think I'll be hanging it up till next year. I'll still watch and go to games but I'm not gonna waist time posting about this team.

I'm patient enough to put up with some bad losses if there is improvement, but so far it has been another roller coaster of disappointing losses and really to this point only one win to be proud of.

No leadership from the players or coaches so far and once again, no real sense of identity for this team. Looking like it's time for a change and until then, I really just don't think there is much else worth saying.

Re: Jackson St. Game

That was a relaxing week or so off from all Duquesne basketball activities! I am legitimately interested to see what effect, if any, that the extended practice period will have on the team. I have my doubts, but I'd love to see an improved and organized team.

Re: Jackson St. Game

Not anticipating any major deviation tonight  from what we have already seen. Don't ever expect 3 bigs in the game at the same time. I honestly don't know if we are capable of beating this team. For sure we won't outcoach them!! Was thinking of attending but decided to watch on line. Where is Josh Steele?

Re: Jackson St. Game

Good question. Steele and Robinson are probably 1-2 in points per minute the last 2 years among players still on the team. Like a lot of the posters I have become frustrated with this coach and the lack of minutes for such players, particularly Robinson. There is talent on this team, but this coach doesn't have any idea on how to put the right combination of players on the court at any time during a game. This has been the case throughout his tenure.

Re: Jackson St. Game

Positives:
1. Nakye Sanders, out the gate, adds energy.
2. Consistent Scoring Defense.
3. Show poise, ball-handling and temperament throughout.
4. Forced its will on opponent "taking the air out of the ball" and closing the way good teams show.
5. Tarin, IMike and Mike - a new dimension to Dukes' basketball.
6. DLewis, "Chairman of the Boards", when it counted.
7. Now, will Ferry's team turn the corner?

Re: Jackson St. Game

Nothing builds confidence like a win over the 275th best team in the nation.

Re: Jackson St. Game

Good points for sure, Hilltopper.
We saw a lot more aggressive play from the Dukes; good to see them kick up the intensity when Jackson made a few runs at them.  In losses; they became tentative when teams got aggressive against them.
Sanders played aggressively but we need him on the court for longer periods of time.  Two of his fouls were just being too aggressive in situations where fouls were sure to ensue; just needs to avoid these fouls, but it's a fine line because his aggression is important to his game.
In general the whole team came out with lots of intensity; like they've been in a cage for the last ten days.

Re: Jackson St. Game

Good win for the Dukes. Hoping for that kind of performance when we play LaSalle, St. Joes, Dayton, etc. The easy part of the season is almost over. A-10 play will measure how much the team has improved.

Re: Jackson St. Game

Seriously I understand those of you who choose to be positive but this team was near high school level!!!  The biggest guy on the court for them was listed as 6'8" that was a joke. The game showed me nothing and proved nothing. The better question for this board would be Ferry's absolutely unjustified and idiotic substitutions. Hilltopper's your chairman of the boards played 20 minutes and scored A POINT, Abrahamson 9 minutes of horrible play by a 5th year senior, James 7 minutes of nothing because he is still playing out of position and Blackman 31 minutes of near nothing. And finally as much as I like the play of Sanders he wouldn't last long in league play he and Mike are fouling machines.
