Offline This board is insufferable at times. Actually, this board is sufferable most of the time. Offline Wow so frustrating. We should be up by 10 if we could make free throws or layups. Strong defensive performance though. Offline Given the poor ball handling, a spectacular slew of missed layups and put-backs, as well as an atrocious performance at the charity stripe, it's amazing the Dukes are only down four at half. Offline Well it was a decent effort for the first 3/4 of the game but it looked like VCU's style eventually wore them down. VCU is going to be a tough out in the NCAA tournament this year with all of those athletes and seniors. Most of the Dukes struggled tonight with the exception of mike Lewis and Blackman. Offline Nice offense - no defense again. Offline Nice offense - no defense again. The defense was okay in the first half but they just couldn't stop their guards from getting to the rim and dishing to the bigs in the second half. Last edited by Dukes2012 (1/04/2017 9:08 pm) Offline This was a game that gave me the feeling through the first 3/4 that VCU would pull away. Offline This was a game that gave me the feeling through the first 3/4 that VCU would pull away. Yeah, if you fall behind guys in your class, or younger, you're not likely to have much of a future. This is especially true with the guys who will be coming next year. Personally, I don't have a problem with it. If Ferry can keep the wheels on enough to get one more year, he's better off giving Lewis, Mike, Sanders, and Smith lots of minutes, as they will be the core of the team the next 2 years. Robinson is actually a senior, with junior eligibility. If he's on course to graduate, he should do the grad transfer thing, but unlike Gill, be smart and drop down a step. He'd be tough to deal with in the NEC. Offline Checked out the VCU board and there were a lot of complaints about the officiating. Did we finally get the benefit of some homecooking? I only caught the last 8 minutes. Offline Checked out the VCU board and there were a lot of complaints about the officiating. Did we finally get the benefit of some homecooking? I only caught the last 8 minutes. Not really. They called a lot of fouls on VCU in the first half but it evened out as we got whistled for a lot in the second. Offline I missed the game ... Did we really have walkons at the end of a single digit loss? Was it a blowout with garbage time or did something else happen? Halftime was close, no? Offline I missed the game ... Did we really have walkons at the end of a single digit loss? Was it a blowout with garbage time or did something else happen? Halftime was close, no? ED, it was tied with around 10 minutes to go and then VCU went on a big run to go up by about 15. We got a few garbage buckets in the last minute to get it to a 7 point game. We played ok for the first 30 minutes or so, but appeared to run out of gas. VCU never lets off the gas. Offline I missed the game ... Did we really have walkons at the end of a single digit loss? Was it a blowout with garbage time or did something else happen? Halftime was close, no? ferry got a T and the deficit was up to 18 or so. The Dukes continued to press, even when both teams brought in some guys on the end of the bench, and we still kept shooting well through the end of the game. Offline regardless, i liked the way this team played tonight. vcu couldn't miss in the second half, and their big men played big. ML2 was a monster, Nakye i thought was at times too. Most of the guards had good offensive games. Offline Jackdoc13 welcome please excuse those of us that have actually seen good times on the Bluff and hope to see it one more time before either we or the university throws in the towel. Although I love Mike Lewis and I believe he will continue to improve, he was out played by another Freshman and IMHO coaching has everything to do with it. Samir Doughty, who played for Math, Civics and Science in Philly matched Lewis point for point but had 9 assists, 3 steals and 2 TO's in 34 minutes. Lewis had 4 assists, 5 TO's and no steals. Last edited by The Dome (1/04/2017 10:58 pm) The game is on tv on ASN. Offline Gave up 57 points in the second half to VCU. Last edited by PhoenixRising2 (1/05/2017 12:05 am) Offline Good news for JROB. I guess not being played exempts him from being accused of having weak defensive skills or whatever horse pucky Coach Ferry is selling. Unbelievable! Offline I hope I spell his name right ... Mo Allie-Cox has been tormenting us since he was a freshman. He's a strong kid, reminds me a bit of Sam Clancy Sr. He's tough to handle because he beats length with strength. Offline I hope I spell his name right ... Mo Allie-Cox has been tormenting us since he was a freshman. He's a strong kid, reminds me a bit of Sam Clancy Sr. He's tough to handle because he beats length with strength. There was no real way to neutralize cox. It wasn't like he was backing our guys down in the post. Almost all of his points came from uncontested dunks off of feeds from the guards. The issue was we could not stop their guards from penetrating. Offline Going along with duq81 JRob as grad transfer to NEC team, let's say he goes to St Francis of Lorreta and against Duquesne he has a monster game, 18 pts. 12 boards , 3 blocks and after the game the new Duquesne Coach says, " thanks the kind of tough inside player we need here at Duquesne." Offline There was no real way to neutralize cox. It wasn't like he was backing our guys down in the post. Almost all of his points came from uncontested dunks off of feeds from the guards. The issue was we could not stop their guards from penetrating. You're spot on, Dukes2012. The Dukes guards were horrible defensively last night. They can't stop ball penetration due to a combination of not moving their feet and inability to handle simple ball screens. Tarin Smith was invisible in his 24 minutes on the court; and he may have been worse defensively than his offensive (really offensive, for a point guard) stat line -- 0-4 from the field, 2-6 from the line, 2 assists and 3 turnovers. Every media account I've read cited at least one dunk over Lewis, but besides, how about sticking an @$$ in front of the guy and boxing him out.

You'l only get a reaction like that when posting wholly positive or wholly negative comments on the state of affairs. Some people are intractably in one camp or another. I'm as guilty as most in those regards.
Your enthusiasm and joy is appreciated. For those of us more jaded, it is sometimes hard to appreciate baby steps forward when we have been slapped by many promises and big steps backwards.
Stick around, kid

Better talent usually wins out, Mike Lewis II continues to impress, I Mike is now in conference play and will be pressed nightly.
A long conference year is ahead, sorry to hear that James is injured, last year he showed so much promise, Steele must be a goner by now.

VCU's coach told a player (#4, tillman) not to dunk up 10 on a breakaway with 8 seconds left. But he was already mid-stride when he stopped and got called a travelling. On the last possession, i think blackmon nailed another 3 to cut it to 7. but really, vcu deserved to win by about 12-15 or so.

Re: VCU Game
what's interesting was we couldn't stop that one dude with dreadlocks (Alle-Cox). he was only 6'7" but was their most effective big. wouldv'e been interesting to see what JRob could've done against a smaller frontcourt like ferry said he would....

Re: VCU Game
BTW shame on Ferry for once again making a game look closer by pressing a team's second string!!!!!! Has anyone seen a more bizarre ending, and now you see how they build those beautiful buildings in Vegas.

At a bar requested Duquesne game guide said Duquesne vs. VCU Yet Latvia soccer match? Another Duquesne classic no sponsorship to air the game vs. Eastern European soccer.. No hope my friends groundhogs day on the bluff.
Re: VCU Game
Tied at 48 with 14:01 to go. VCU was up by 18 with 2:03 to go (90-72; Dukes gave up 42 points in 12 minutes) and VCU really didn't try to score the rest of the game (took 2 missed shots from the field and hit 4 free throws). And Ferry kept the press on after the benches were cleared. Another Ferry coached team defensive debacle; complete meltdown in the 2nd half. Again and again. No answers; just screaming at the refs. Small time Jim.
PS to Dome - can only imagine how those bettors feel who laid the 10 points. Ferry better lock his doors tonight. Bizarre is an apt description.

Those kinds of players are great if you have them, and you hate them when someone else has them.
As for Robinson, I agree that he looks like a much more competent player this year. Even if something in practice doesn't sit right with the staff, I think it's hard to ignore what he does in games. Robinson actually has the strength to neutralize a guy like Allie-Cox.

Here's what Ferry said in the P-G:
“What they do to teams is they wear you out physically and mentally,” Ferry said. “I thought that happened to us. They started pounding inside, attacking inside. With their depth, they wore us out.”
How about your own depth? You have Lewis, Robinson, Sanders, Abrahamson, Mike. Two 5s, a 4, and 2 3s who are 6-8. You had some fouls to give, to see if he can shoot as effectively from the FT line as he did jamming it down our throats.
Not to miss your point: Since we play so many small players at the same time, there's no excuse to get beat by them going to the paint.
Again, coaching.
