Re: Dayton Game

i can safely say that there's more excttement around campus this year for this game than other games comparatively both this year and previous years. Aside from City Games, this might be the most well attended game for students in a while. I hope I'm proven right.

The students see a game at the Arena as an event. It actually feels big time. That's why it's good to play a few games there. If we ever get good, we'll likely play about half of our league schedule there.

Re: Dayton Game

Well, even though it was a roadie for us we played Bobby Mo at the Paint Can, and Ferry elected not to coach that night.

I'd have a hard time getting pumped to go back.

Is Charles Cooke playing in this one?

Re: Dayton Game

This will be a very difficult game against a team with tons of experience. Four of their top five scorers are seniors. A win would be a huge feather in the cap for this team and ferry.

Re: Dayton Game

Happy the game for we out of towners is on CBS Sports Network, although we will most certainly have to listen to how Coach Ferry rescued the program after 5 winning/non losing seasons prior to his hiring, by posting 4 losing seasons and one non losing year and "saving" the program.

And that former coach, he was exiled to a perrinial top 20 team as the top assistant and frequent NCAA qualifier in a conference that is a little better than the A10.

The over/ under on the rescue come is 3 times.

You can bet there will be a ton of Flyer fans in the Arena, and even some Dukes supporters, win or lose after the game I will enjoy our low 80's sunny weather with a swim in the pool and a Totty!

Re: Dayton Game

This color announcer for the game is a straight up Ferry apologist. It sounds like Ferry gave him a list of things to say before the game. I guess they coached in the NEC together. "He's building this program into a winner". There must be two Duquesne basketball programs and we are all following the wrong one.

Re: Dayton Game

At 11 min mark, Dayton up by a 15, also dukes with a 8-2 deficit in turn overs.

Some unforced, like in traveling calls when no pressure.

Re: Dayton Game

Unless I missed him this is the first game where Steele is not on the bench in sweats. Being down by 13 is a plus after how we have played. Robinson again showing why he should be playing more. Watched him on defense and his man didn't score and he altered 2 shots. I know it's a small sample size but all he has is small samples. I'd like to have him stick around or we will be awful small next year but I guess that's the way Ferry likes it.

Re: Dayton Game

1st half was a clear example of coaches who can and can't coach.

Re: Dayton Game

When we take care of the ball, we can play with this team.

Re: Dayton Game

Hopefully smith can get paired up with a shooting coach (maybe the Masons?) this offseason. He needs to some work on his release and footwork. If he can become a solid shooter, it's going to be hard to guard him with his quickness in the lane.

Re: Dayton Game

Robinson first big off the bench and makes a hustle play that results in a 3. So far so good in the 2nd half. We look like a different team if we can only keep it up.

Re: Dayton Game

Lewis II a rising star at Duquesne, Dukes battling to stay in it, Flyers making contested three's and sometimes banking them in.

JRob, a board favorite, earring some pt and performing well.....

Re: Dayton Game

Game winding down with Dukes getting balls stolen, at will by Dayton, a series of stuffs by Flyers and wild shots by Duquesne.

Announcers praising Ferry for his rebuilding job, failing to point out rebuilding by losing.

Dukes lose by 19.

Re: Dayton Game

Here you go.

52 shots, 21 from 3. We shoot 14% from 3, and 20 for 31 (almost 67%) from the rest of the floor. Add in 47% from the FT line, 22 turnovers.

Eric James and Robinson get PT, JR only because Lewis, Sanders and Mike spent the afternoon in foul trouble. Littleson and a walk-on get in; not Steele. Taylor continues to get minutes but post no stats.

Glad I didn't see this. Except for Lewis and Blackman it looks like we soiled the proverbial sheets once again.

Re: Dayton Game

First of all, I really wasn't disappointed as I honestly didn't expect as to win.  I know, we beat Pitt...but they have a new coach who is not better than Dixon, they benched their leading scorer, and due to the coach not getting them up for that game, they lost.  On any given day...  I was upset we lost to Robert Morris who we shouldn't lose to.
Second, this is not the first or the last announcer who drinks Ferry's Kool-Aid.  Many have repeated his building the program and we are young mantra...only they can't figure out how you can be young for 5 straight years.  Let's face it, the man talks a good game!  He is like Teflon - he never takes responsibility on his lack of defense, it is never his coaching ,it is always the kids.  Then, he never takes responsibility for who he has...it's like someone else recruited them.  Unlike many, most on these board realize that, however I now believe the Athletic Director and the announcers are still drinking what he is giving them.  The jury is still out on the President.
Actually, I thought we did okay today.  We lost to a school with a better program than Duquesne's.  We lost to a coach who is better than Ferry.  We lost to players who are better than the ones Ferry recruited.
So, we were actually in it for a while, I thought we were actually competitive and I don't think we were embarrassed.  But did I think we would win?  Nope.

Re: Dayton Game

It is really this simple:
1.  We don't have enough talent;
2.  Only Sanders and JRob should play inside.  JRob played such a solid game today and Lewis, well he was typical Lewis - just not DI material, period.  Between JRob and Sanders whoever is playing the best that game should get the minutes.
3.  Lewis needs to ride the pine with KA next to him.
4. MLewis is really good, IMike is a really good freshman who is just not as consistent as ML is.  Sanders needs to control his fouling and learn how to shoot free  throws and he will be a positive.  TSMith has to get more consistent and needs to work on outside shot and control then dishing, but I am willing to give him more time.  Castro had a bad game, but he has played pretty well this year.  Other than that our talent is simply not there.  JRob has the talent to be a good A-10 big and if Ferry doesn't see that after today, especially in light of the alternative (Lewis), he needs his head examined!!!!!

Re: Dayton Game

Remarkable:

Starting front line totals from Mike + Sanders:   4points  6boards  7fouls  7turnovers

Hidden stat:  Dayton has seven (7) state champions on roster.

Re: Dayton Game

FAM & Pete do we have any idea what talent is really on this team?  JRob's performance today is proof positive of a coaching staff that is clueless in A) evaluation and, B) development. I can't think of ONE player during Ferry's time that has advanced. His inability to stifle the persistent problems of turnovers, poor shot selection  and getting beat on the boards shows he doesn't have a clue. Today JRob scored on his first touch and never saw the ball again. We have NO GUARDS who can make a entry pass although much of it stems from where those passes are even being attempted from. In response to the horrid 3's throw up today his response is what a great defensive team Dayton is and that most of them were good looks. He is so over matched that it is a disservice to every kid putting on that uniform since they are being cheated just as badly as the last few idiots like myself who see everyone of these embarrassments.

Re: Dayton Game

Dome, I zeroed in on JRob since I like him so much, he was playing hard. One play he got to a ball that was out of bounds baseline and flipped it into Blackman who hit the three.

Those passes to him were either over his head or lazy lobs that the defender reached around and deflected.

He tied for rebound high at 6 in 20. Min of pt, D Lewis continues to get worse, after 4 years that is a shame for a 6-11 big to contribute so little.
