Offline They beat us. In a building that's a "second" home to us. Of course, they've beaten us everywhere four of the past five years. Offline They're basically building an updated Palumbo, which is fine if you're looking to upgrade to the MAAC. A 4,200 capacity building would do nothing for Duquesne. Offline Hopefully they have updated the plans. The first design they had out was not overly impressive. Offline 81 the Palumbo is barely bigger than 4,200 now. What do you think Duquesne is looking to do with facilities? The chances of them tearing down Palumbo are slim and none. Its inevitable that any refurbishing will more than likely result in the loss of few hundred more seats. Offline 81 the Palumbo is barely bigger than 4,200 now. Its inevitable that any refurbishing will more than likely result in the loss of few hundred more seats. There is nothing we can do with Palumbo. In a perfect world, we would have a winning program that filled an 8,000 seat arena. In the real world, if we ever became a winner (and I mean a winner like VCU or Dayton), we'll play big games at the Arena, and the rest at Palumbo, sort of like what St. John's does. Offline Robert Morris invited to 8 NCAA's, Duquesne invited to 5, all time. Offline Robert Morris invited to 8 NCAA's, Duquesne invited to 5, all time. I agree with the second part. The first part does not make much sense though as you are comparing apples and oranges. How many appearances do you believe Bobby Mo would have if they were in the A10 or even the MAAC? Point is, that is not an equal or worthwhile comparison. Keep in mind that we beat them many of the years they made it to the tournament when we had better on court coaching. Last edited by Dukes2012 (1/18/2017 10:12 am) Offline 2012 It is a very valid comparison. The A-10 has been a multiple bid league for a long time were as the NEC is not. How about making the NIT and beating Kentucky!! No one cares about the league people just count how many times you make it. PERIOD. Offline 2012 It is a very valid comparison. You hate ferry so much that you have lost the ability to look at things neutrally. I am not sure I have ever seen a post from you that is not negative towards ferry or Duquesne in general. Offline They're basically building an updated Palumbo, which is fine if you're looking to upgrade to the MAAC. A 4,200 capacity building would do nothing for Duquesne. Don't misunderstand my point, I wasn't trying to say they built a nicer arena than us. I'm trying to point out the fact that a smaller school with a smaller endowment and less resources was somehow able to secure funding for a newer, bigger arena than they previously had. Last edited by Duques102 (1/18/2017 12:44 pm) Offline Dome, thanks for understanding my point. But my point is no one from the NEC is making a sweet 16 run, so conference does matter. The NEC is one of the worst and smallest conferences in America. Winning the NEC is no badge of honor which is why RMU is actively trying to get out of it. Surely RMU understands that they have a better chance of making the NCAAs every year in the NEC than they would in the MAAC, but they want to leave anyway because CONFERENCE MATTERS! It matters in revenue, recruiting, media access... The only way to get people motivated to undertake such a project would be to start winning. Winning creates interest, and interest brings revenue. Offline Phil sadly only a few of us will be left soon to even remember our relivence. RMU was a junior college program, very elite, until the mid 70's. Their relationship with us has been strange to say the least. But since their going big time they have been a thorn in our side. We wouldn't even play them early on since they weren't in our view. It would probably surprise the younger guys that they have played Pitt I believe 40 times to our 27 and they have NEVER beaten Pitt. No surprise recently but their first game against Pitt was in 1978. In their inception as a JC program in 1963 their first coach was supposed to be Chick Davies still the all time leader in wins at DU. I think you would have a hard time arguing that they have hired far better coaches over the years we have been changing them like socks. Of course you have the right to Complain. You've suffered through this much longer than I have. I also Complain sometimes, but I try to provide constructive commentary on this team and coach. There's been some hard feelings since the whole Ron firing debacle, but the kids on this team (and ferry) do not have anything to do with the sins of our former AD. Ferry frustrates us all but I want him (and Duquesne) to succeed. Offline How many years do you give Ferry? Offline How many years do you give Ferry? That's a tough question. On one hand, I look at the young nucleus of this team and the good recruiting class coming in, and think that he should get another year. On the other hand, this is his fifth year and he has yet to have a winning season. I think it all depends on how this team closes out the year. If they bomb, he should be gone. If they compete well and win some games, I can't see him being fired. Offline [ so we hire a guy who did it twice in ten years, usually having losing records in the others. Offline [ so we hire a guy who did it twice in ten years, usually having losing records in the others. The sad thing is, if we were sure of the two NCAA bids in 10 years, we might be happy with that. After all, we have zero bids in the last 39 years, and even the one was a fluke. Offline How many years do you give Ferry? That's a tough question. If they compete well and win some games, I can't see him being fired. I agree 100% with this. If the team totally falls apart, he needs to be gone this year. If not, next year is certainly do or die. He won't be allowed to be a lame duck in year 7. Therefore, he will either need to earn an extension next year, or be gone. Six years is certainly enough to show us something. We're letting opportunity slip away. Pitt is going to be down for at least a couple of years. A good Dukes team would have a chance at drawing some of the 6,000 or so fans who attend Pitt games, but are not alums, or hardcore fans. These tend to be Pittsburgh sports fans, and they'll support any local team putting a good product out there.

Any improvement any school makes to upgrade program is a plus for that school.

Surely when a team makes a run to the Sweet 16 like FGCU did and captured the nation with Dunk City, critics were not saying, aw they came from a low major conference so don't give them their due credit.
Mike Rice, Jr put together some powerful teams at Robert Morris, as did Jarrett Durham in the early 1990's in his NCAA years. They were both best against their peers to get to the top.
At the same time Duquesne was floundering or trying to rise from mediocre status even with RE.
For all the talk of Duquesne past glory it was in the 1940's and 1950's, even before an old fan like me's time.
There was a brief time in the 1960's and early 1970's when Red Manning was bringing the Dukes back but not enough to be invited into the then New Big East made up of basketball Catholic Schools, but they even snubbed us for a football school, Pitt.
I wish it wasn't so, but that's how I see it.

People on here have stated that we are unable to achieve something like this. My point was why can they? They are going from 3,000 to 4,200, which I would equate to us going from 4500 to about 6,000 or so. If this is so impossible why is it happening in moon.

2012 I guess I'll take the high road and apologize for the negativity and I'll sign off from the board for awhile but let me leave you with this. I love my school and wear my ring everyday of my life but after buying tickets, donating and investing far too many hours of my life to the garbage of the past 30+ years I feel I have the right to Complain. As to Ferry it's not hate as much as despise the sheer arrogance with which he has treated the fans by his failure to EVERY take responsibility for his abject failure.
