You know it's bad when you look bad in comparison to what's going on at Pitt, where the lynch mob has already formed, and the AD has done a GA, and hightailed it out of town ( have we ever, even during this 45 year disaster, been beaten by 55 points at home? Egad!). I'd think it was some sort of "Pittsburgh thing", but the folks at Bobby Mo don't seem to be affected. Maybe their location out in Moon protects them from this awful malady. Yeah and we had to go and buy Bobby Mo's downtown campus building. It all ties together! Offline This Richmond Program has beaten Duquesne for decades, regardless of who is coaching them. A far cry from the beginning when both were Independants and Red' s squads used them as a tune up for the DePaul's and Detroit's and Maryland's of the then basketball world, who the Dukes played yearly. Offline duq81, the worst loss I can remember was losing by 50 at Palumbo to #1 UMASS in 1995. Offline This Richmond Program has beaten Duquesne for decades, regardless of who is coaching them. From 1973-1994, Dukes won 7 in a row vs. Richmond. Since Richmond joined the A-10 in 2002, the Dukes are 1-18 vs Richmond. Offline duq81, the worst loss I can remember was losing by 50 at Palumbo to #1 UMASS in 1995. Ugh, yeah and I think that was the game that lost John Carroll his job. BC probably decided then to fire him, one year after we made the NIT and actually won a game. And don't forget we had a great base (Pipkins, Bostic and Price) that Edgar just pissed away. Offline duq81, the worst loss I can remember was losing by 50 at Palumbo to #1 UMASS in 1995. How much of a stud was Marcus Camby at UMASS? He was one of my favorite NBA players growing up. One thing I remember about that game was that the eleventh or twelfth man off the bench for UMASS was a geniune 7 footer, who Carroll would have given his eye teeth to have on his team. As usual in college hoops, what seperates great teams from good teams is the bench. Offline duq81, the worst loss I can remember was losing by 50 at Palumbo to #1 UMASS in 1995. Didn't the NCAA vacate that win though because of a Calipari/Camby no-no. So maybe it never happened, alternate history. Tejas, you are correct, three great players and zero results, then throw in Mike James whom Edgar didn't want. What a total waste. Don't know about any regular season games, but they were stripped of their Final Four appearance. This was very similar to what happened at Villanova with Howard Porter. "No, we didn't know anything. What we did was everything ahead of schedule. We were on top of everything we did. And again, they said we didn't know nor should have known. We didn't know nor should have known what he did back in high school," Calipari said, going on to explain how Camby did eventually speak with NCAA investigators and pay back out of his own pocket the $151,000 the university was fined."We were the ones that got Marcus Camby to talk to the NCAA," he said. "He was in the NBA, he didn't need to talk to the NCAA. There were other players at other schools involved that wouldn't talk and we got our guy to talk to the NCAA. And he paid the money back."So I'm not embarrassed about anything we've done. I'm proud of what we've done, proud of our kids and what they've become and what they're becoming." Offline Sadly, 1-19 last 20 games, once again, Duquesne not good enough 101-90 Richmond Wins. Offline I've stopped paying attention. Offline I'm with you Simms, just waiting to see what happens after the season on all fronts. Offline Had to be a good effort by the Dukes tonight with both Freshmen and Blackman scoring over 20 points each; they just need to defend better as a team. Offline Levon, if ONLY that were true. Offline Levon, if ONLY that were true. I also think that Ferry is not a good coach. And the stats show that historically Ferry's teams on defense have always been below average, at best, to downright awful. We are now halfway through the conference games and the Dukes are sitting dead last in conference games in defensive efficiency (112.2, Dayton leads the conference at 88.6). Offline What we have here, is data. As ElDuque pointed out, Offline Levon, if ONLY that were true. I also think that Ferry is not a good coach. We are now halfway through the conference games and the Dukes are sitting dead last in conference games in defensive efficiency (112.2, Dayton leads the conference at 88.6). Boys, I don't think we have to dig that deep to determine Ferry is an awful coach. Doesn't even come close to passing the eye test. I can't see a scenario where he keeps his job after this season with the five years he's had. Like Eld said, that's only if we have a real ad. At this point I haven't seen anything to suggest there is change in that regard. Offline Had to be a good effort by the Dukes tonight with both Freshmen and Blackman scoring over 20 points each; they just need to defend better as a team. I say this because despite the fact that many posters question, or have given up on the coaches; we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that the players are still working hard and trying their best. Don't give up in the players; they give their best effort.

I still remember when the Pittsburgh Press reported in horror around 1974 that Duquesne dropped out of the Top 50 rankings. Now we would give our eye teeth to be in the Top 100.

I got up from my season seat near the end of the first half, Coach Cal had been putting in the 3rd team from around the 10 min. mark, I sat in the seats behind the basket and watched break away dunks by these UMass subs over and over, as the first half ended we were about 50 points down.
I left and went home and never returned the rest of the season...

Re: Richmond Game Thread
If they had played strong defense yesterday, one of their other pimples would have surfaced, whether it's 4-21 shooting from 3, not getting to the FT line or hitting FTs, or the last second "strategy" of "just play hard" with the game on the line.
I know you think I complain too much, but I think Ferry is not a good coach. I phrased that the way I want, BTW (as opposed to I don't think he is a good coach). I know you understand that, but I don't want someone to think I misspoke.
If Mr. Harper insists he is, then I will be able to assess him properly. He will be the latest in a string of unqualified and failed ADs.
I hope I'm wrong.

Last year, the Dukes were 10th in conference games in defensive efficiency at 108.0. Even though, as Ferry told us, they lost their best defensive player in J Jones (excuse) and had short guards that couldn't defend (blame). Yet here we are again, playing bad defense. The constant in the equation is Ferry. •Thread Starter
Re: Richmond Game Thread
OUT OF THE LAST 15 SEASONS, FERRY HAS 3 winning ones. This is not an abnormality. It is not an opinion. It is not a quirk. It is a piece of data over a 15 year span. It isn't like someone says "Well, he is a winner and he has things turned around." It is 15 years. ElDuque, you need to add that under your name...the number of teams ahead of else will change. This will not change. Those 15 years aren't going away.
