Re: St. Bonaventure Game Day

This seems like almost a must-win for ferry.

Good advice, if the game was being played in our house.  Too bad it's at Palumbo.

Re: St. Bonaventure Game Day

I saw the Bonnies a few times this year, and they have two very good guards that will look to penetrate and can both shoot from long distance.  They are not a real powerful team in the paint, but since most teams have taken advantage of the Dukes in the paint, the Bonnies will probably try to balance their attack both inside and out.  Both guards are very quick and we have had trouble keeping opposing guards out of the paint, so this will basically go a long way toward deciding the outcome.
One more thing, they are a persistent team, and will not quit even if the Dukes come out hot and get a lead.  They played a lackluster game at URI last game and still fought back to make it interesting down the stretch when it looked like URI was close to breaking it open several times.

Re: St. Bonaventure Game Day

It sure would be nice to watch a win tonight.

The Bonnies have underachieved a bit but Jaylen Adams is the kind of smooth, smart scoring point guard that usually destroys the Dukes.

I grew up in Olean & took a few courses at SBU. Aside from the games against the Dukes, this is a program I follow & pull for. I like Schmidt as a coach & have always wondered if he would consider a move back to western PA for his next stop. Hometown rumors always suggest that he will look for greener pastures when his kids are done with high school. I think his youngest boy is a sophomore at the local high school.

Re: St. Bonaventure Game Day

I really believe we can win this unless Ferry gets out coached.  It will come down to him, as in most close games, it is the coaching.
Is this streaming for free??

Re: St. Bonaventure Game Day

The game is being televised on the American Sports Network and there will be a free livestream (no registration required) at this link:

Re: St. Bonaventure Game Day

Let's see if the the offensive production can carry over from the Richmond game and hopefully the defense can tighten up a little bit at home.

Re: St. Bonaventure Game Day

8:30 or so Eastern time:  Just started at the beginning of my DVR:

Two things:

1.  Wow, how pathetic is this that the crowd could literally be measured in dozens?

2.  WTF is with this supposed network???? The broadcast has a crawl on the bottom of the screen, but  no game clock or live running score on the screen?  I can't see the score, but have to wait for the announcers to tell me! Jesus Christ!  This is like High school JV level!

Just typical of Duquesne basketball.

Re: St. Bonaventure Game Day

We should be up 15. Blackman should be on the bench and Smith not far behind him. Any chance Ferry figures out how to attack the 1-3-1?

Re: St. Bonaventure Game Day

Amazing we have a one point lead at half time after 15 turnovers.

SBU cuts down on fouling they will win. No way Ferry figures out the 1-3-1.

Just tuned in another loss but more disturbing the crowd at best is at 200 fans. Without a doubt all time low in the program.  Message to the new President "blow it up" more people at a Catholic gradeschool game. Thank you Chuck  we the Duquesne alumni are F%%k

Can you unscramble the letters below?

nanedyen

Looked like the lowest attendance of the year - definitely under 500.  Sick of hearing the announcers say they were young.  So the last two years when they weren't they never had a winning record and the years before that...oh brother.  I just worry about Harper believing that hogwash.  If he brings Ferry back next year look for under 500 attendance and $ 5.00 tickets.  Maybe this did it -opened Harper's eyes????

Does anyone think Jim Ferry should continue at Duquesne???

Re: St. Bonaventure Game Day

Watched a bit of game and then decided to do laundry, we stink. Just saw final score, no surprise. Iron Duke attendance sucks, no surprise my friend.  It will not change until there is a reason.  El D, take your NJ point guard back to Bergen County, he makes the most unforced turnovers I've seen out of a PG in a long time - and its not coaching, some of his TO's are just ridiculous.  As I said before, is the season over yet so we can actually see if anything positive is going to happen. Ferry, worst hire in Div I history.

Re: St. Bonaventure Game Day

Pete,
I actually thought that Nee was .009 % worse than Ferry, but who is splitting hairs.  Also noticed that except for his one assistant, the other guys there don't look like they can offer much - have much experience - or have anything to contribute during game time.  So, the assistants don't look like they can make things any better.

btw - Dembrot, the coach who the previous AD thought he could get to come here but couldn't.  His current record is 19-3.  (Akron)

The losses need to keep coming. It'll make it easy on the board to pull the plug.

Look at I Mike's stat line ... Should we send him back to Totonto?

Of course not. Don't be silly. Get these young men a ball coach.

End this charade.

Re: St. Bonaventure Game Day

I've come to expect Dayton pulling more fans in our city than show up for us. Last night, it was very close re: the number of our fans vs. Bonnie fans. There was at least one bus from Olean. Maybe if we schedule Hawaii we can be assured of out fanning the other team. Or, maybe not!!

El D I know you want to stick up for your guy but his God awful decision making has nothing to do with coaching. I've never seen a guy throw the ball out of bounds to no one so many times in a season. He makes so many terrible lazy passes how many turnovers did he have last night???? He's supposed to be our point guard and as soon as he gets across half court he immpediately passes it away to someone else on the perimeter, often resulting in a turnover.

He can't shoot to save his life either. I remember earlier in the season you mentioned how no one had anything bad to say about him when he has a good game. 1. Almost every decent performance he had was in the OOC which you have noted over and over is soooo weak. 2. We now have a big enough sample size from him, especially with conference games, to show the good games are the anamoly and the poor performances are the standard. Not the other way around.

Castro is a much much better player and should be starting. Yet another Ferry transfer flop. El D, I will say he's not as bad of a player as Abrahamson, for whatever that's worth. Smith should be getting Castro's minutes and vis versa. I'm sure looking at the turnover to minutes played ratio would show that glaringly.

Your right, the coach is awful, and that is reflected in the fact that he's clearly to thick to realize his starting point guard sucks and he has a better one sitting right behind him on the bench.

P.S. Isaiah Mike is a freshman, one which is showing an absolute ton of potential. He and Lewis 2 lead the league in freshman of the week honors by a huge margin. Please don't slander a guy showing promise and huge upside because your golden goose has turned out to be the second coming of Jordan Stevens.

Re: St. Bonaventure Game Day

If I were Ferry I'd also cut back on Smith's minutes, including benching him as a starter.

That said, I'd also be working with him to cut back on his mistakes. That would be Ferry's job. When I watch him on the bench, I'm hard-pressed to figure out what he's doing.
