Offline As told in emoticons: Offline Last place is ours, along with UMass, who should also be looking for a new coach. Offline The thing that makes our situation so frustrating, along with the storied history, is that the program has so much promise. A campus located right in the city, a huge new arena right across the street, a struggling Pitt program, a university that continues to rise in the academic rankings, etc. It just takes the right coach. The facilities and administration support will come with some sustained success. We cannot strike out on the next coaching search. Last edited by Dukes2012 (2/02/2017 8:39 am) Offline I would be okay with Schmidt. He certainly can coach better than Ferry and he might be someone who would be okay to returning to the burg. I also posted a possible replacement in another thread. I am done with my analysis and I appreciate the patience of those who have read my repeated comments because what the hell else can you say? Now it is time to move on to find a coach...since we are worried about Mr. Harper doing it maybe we need to send him suggestions. I sure hope he gets rid of Ferry at the end of this year and doesn't use the Palumbo upgrade as an excuse to keep him. Surely, the embarrassment of the attendance alone should have made an impact on him last night. Offline Schmidt would certainly be an upgrade if he had any interest at all! Seems to have a pretty good thing going where he is. Not sure he would entertain a move unless it was a huge salary difference. There have to be potential candidates out there who would be interested and get the job done. The trick is finding them which can only be done through a thorough search. Let's not just grab the first warm body that we see. Obviously, that doesn't work! Offline Schmidt would certainly be an upgrade if he had any interest at all! The salary would have to be significantly increased, but I could also see him thinking that recruiting would be easier in Pittsburgh than olean. If a decent offer is made, I wouldn't be surprised if he at least considered it. I think the Pittsburgh market is the only thing that has kept the A-10 from kicking us out these last 20 years. Also Pitt may be struggling now, but let's be honest they could go 0-30 for the next five years and still be a more successful program than us in the long term. Offline Fire Jim Ferry Offline I must say current student, your posts are succinct, to the point, and reminders on how you feel. Offline As I listened and then watched the post game stuff last night from Ferry, I wondered why he could not hear himself condemning his own coaching with things like (paraphrasing) Offline The bigs for the Bonnies were really raw and not very good at all. I can't believe they wouldn't have committed a lot of fouls if we could have challenged them inside against the 1-3-1. I have seen guys use a screen on the top guy, but that is usually kind of a desperation move. You can also have two guys in the backcourt as you advance the ball and reverse it just before the 10-second line to take the point man out of the play for the defense, since he was coming out nearly to half court. They did get the ball to the corner a few times an got open 3's, some of which were converted, but we aren't going to win many games on three-point shots, so if that was the strategy against the 1-3-1 I don't think it would have won them the game anyway. The 1-3-1 is also a poor defense to rebound out of for the defensive team, so you should have offensive rebound opportunities since they have a guard playing under the basket; but the Dukes didn't take advantage. Usually some ball-reversal from the elbow to beat the defensive wing to the basket on the opposite side can work, at least you beat him to the rebounding position before he can drop down. Whatever the strategy, our guards looked baffled again, just as they did against the teams that beat us with the extended half court defenses early in the season. It was very frustrating to watch this take place so late in the season. One would think that it would be cleaned up by now. Offline Was Brandon the coach that a lot of Pitt folks wanted when they hired Stallings or was it someone else? Offline Look for 7 in a row on Saturday at Dayton - not that I'll be watching. Is the season over yet! Good grief, the alarm can't go off fast enough to wake us from this nightmare! Offline Look for 7 in a row on Saturday at Dayton - not that I'll be watching. Is the season over yet! Good grief, the alarm can't go off fast enough to wake us from this nightmare! appropriate enough post for today. Ring....ring...."I got you Babe" Offline BTW, I'm not sure that a Brandon Knight hire would be advisable at this point in his young career. Although we could and have done worse!! Offline It wasn't a total loss. I managed to get one of the free sandwiches that the cheerleaders were passing out. Offline Schmidt would certainly be an upgrade if he had any interest at all! Anyone think Schmidt would want to come back to Pittsburgh? That guy is doing way more with way less in the middle of nowhere, ny.

* We couldn't get the ball to the corner against the zone.
*Their length hurt us.
*They got the real rebounds.
*the 6'10" freshman scored his first A10 points.
Enough, please. Who runs a high ball screen against a 1-3-1?
It is time for a change. Here are two suggestions. First, Matt Driscoll at North Florida. He is from Pittsburgh (Bellevue) and was mentioned by Phildog. Second, and I can't believe I am suggesting this, if we want some PR, controversy, and maybe a good coach, Brandon Knight, the Rutgers assistant and former Pitt guy. I apologize for saying Knight. But he has backing from a lot of Pitt people, recruited for Dixon many of their past good players. We are moribund. It is a thought and I know purgatory awaits me for it!!!
