It's Over!

Sometime before Lexington the coach lost the team, where you could have said, "we've no dog in the hunt."  Now it's more likely, "there's no hunt in the dog (team)."  When/where AD decides and pulls the plug, more team/coach defections are imminent.  Emotionally, he's already checked out on the team - just doesn't know it yet.  Wish all the best.

Re: It's Over!

I find your post intriguing. Is this your own thought process or do you have evidence of this?  My curiosity stems from hearing faint rumblings of discontent.  Kids aren't stupid and many times they see the problems all to well.

Re: It's Over!

The faint rumblings are still only undertones as student athletes have not only their schollies on the line but monthly stipends, too.

The irony for this coaching administration is Ferry started out with the worthy idea of attempting to emulate Ron's quick turn-around and recruited smaller, quick Guards.  Unlike Ron, however, none worked out. The real killer was Stevens, whom consensus and  Billy Clark praised a future DU star.  Turned out to be a double whammy when same given year  RMU got Pryor and Bona got Procter(sp?) two other JC talents, each better than not only Stevens but entire DU roster.  The cost: 3 to 4 years. Ferry understood this was a dagger to his jugular - and has never recovered.  On a side note, not surprising Harp's Tejas conversation where out of sympathy and love for the man, Harp extolled Ferry as his man.  Meanwhile, Nash understood his time on bluff was over and left coaching altogether for a high school admin job.

Sentiment remains Ferry's plan was railroaded and deserves time.  Unfortunately, DU finds itself in between rock and hard place as the buyout cupboard appears bare, while the clock still running.

Re: It's Over!

If Ferry had any plan of any kind, it was so secret that no one could possibly see it, then or now! Just seems like he is milking the job for as long as he is able. Terrible hire. Wish him the best somewhere else.

Re: It's Over!

Hilltoppers,
Ferry was given time - 5 years to be exact.  With that said, it is obvious he can't do it.  Mr. Harper needs to be able to see the bigger picture or this thing may not be recovered.  I believe that more folks are now emailing him directly with their disgust of the program.  Everyone needs to do that.  As someone said in a post, if this doesn't get us a new coach then we contact the President.

Question?  How many years were left on Ron's contract...if any?  What was his buyout?

Ferry's plan was railroaded by his lack of coaching competence. The only thing he needs time to do is pack, although someone mentioned once that he doesn't have a permanent Pittsburgh residence.

Ron had two years left, same as Ferry.

So wait a minute, we are stuck with Ferry next year and 2018-2019?  Really?

This is bit of revisionist history.  Stevens wasn't brought in until Year 3; and Stevens came in as a junior, so at worst he was tying up a spot for 2 years (turned out to be one). He wasn't brought in as a savior; Ferry had both Colter and Mason as juniors; he didn't have much other depth at guard besides Desmond Ridenour, so he went the JC route.  Sometimes that doesn't work out.  Ferry screwed Year 3 up by pushing McCoy to the backburner, falling in love with Tysean Powell, and once again having a horrendous defensive scheme in place.

If there was a quick fix in place, it would have been in Year 2 when he had Soko as the complete focal point of the offense.

And Jim Ferry wouldn't know a quick fix if it bit him in the ass because he can't coach.  He cannot evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of his roster and put those players in the best position to win a game. He has his system and he's sticking to it; if it doesn't work - blame the players, blame history, etc.  But never blame Jimmy. What an arrogant SOB.
