Welcome to the grand delusion

http://dkpittsburghsports.com/2017/02/06/ferry-remains-focused-10-year-rebuilding-process/

Ferry tells DK Sports he's halfway through the rebuilding process.

Message to I-Mike and M-Lewis: You won't see a winning season while I'm here.

So let me put it this way: If he is retained at the end of the season, I'm out of here. I don't care if they bring Pitino in at the end of next season, there will be no going back for me.

Re: Welcome to the grand delusion

If I thought for  one minute that Jim Ferry would be coaching this team 2, 3,4 or more years from now, I would simply say NUKE the program and let's move on to something more worthwhile such as women's bingo or downhill tiddlywinks. I certainly will not be in the vicinity of Palumbo and I don't care how spruced up it will be! If I sound a bit discouraged, that's exactly the case. Enough already. This program isn't that far away from Danny Nee status.

Re: Welcome to the grand delusion

a  guy who has not had a winning season in five years, talks of a ten year program?  A guy whose previous ten year plan involved exactly two winning seasons at an inferior level talks of a ten year program?  A guy who has not won one close game by adjusting or any kind of strategy talks of a ten year program? A guy who has proven he has utterly no clue how to coach defense or put the right combination of players on the floor talks of a ten year program?

This is delusional!

Re: Welcome to the grand delusion

He is fully convinced he's here for the duration. And that the program is on the right track. Completely ignores the massive roster turnover that happens every year.

Believes whatever he is doing is more important than winning.

At this point, I think he has thrown down the gauntlet to Mr. Harper.

Reading this has made me even more furious.  If it's true that Harper has drunk Ferry's kool aid, and Ferry is going to be back next year regardless, and Ferry is going to be given five more years to collect a pay check and NOT IMPROVE this program, then I am ready to spit nails! The very real possibility that this team may not win another game this year and this same coach will be back just defies any sense! He (Harper) has to be smart enough to know that if this team shows no improvement, he can't possibly bring Ferry back as more and more alumni will just give up and quit attending and quit contributing!

Re: Welcome to the grand delusion

10 years!!!  Really??
Is that what he told the administration when he was hired?  This will take 10 years?

It might take 10 years of consistent winning to build a reputation in basketball which attracts the top athletes.  But, you got to start winning...

What an arrogant SOB.  Screw him.

PS to ElDuque - Need to change your tag line to the current "13 teams ahead of us, Jimmy".

Re: Welcome to the grand delusion

Do all " next level coaches" need 10 year rebuilding plans? Where is WEB? I'm sure he knows the answer.

Re: Welcome to the grand delusion

Why ten years? Why not 15 years? Twenty years?
Why so long?
How long did it take SMS to develop the WBB into a competitive
program?
Harper better do some explaining.

Re: Welcome to the grand delusion

If you came into a job interview saying it would take ten years to turn things around, they would laugh you out the door. This is the ultimate moving the goalposts.

Re: Welcome to the grand delusion

I think that we all can be certain that the Board of Directors did not say to President Gormley that he has ten years to improve the University. They want to see continuous growth. Shouldn't Ferry be held to the same concept - continuous growth? Ferry has regressed since there is nothing fresh, no risk taking, no concept of high Division 1 management. I have been going to Dukes' games since 1963. Ferry's level of poor coaching is right at Nee's 3-24 season. Ten years? How about telling him you have seven games left. Move on, Mr. Harper. Move on, Dr. Gormley. PLEASE!

I did. Also added a new avatar to show "the Ferry be sinking" and the cost of this disaster.

Re: Welcome to the grand delusion

So let me get this straight.  Duquesne fired a winning coach, Ron E. with two years left and he had a winning record and program under his tenure.  But they will keep a coach who hasn't won in five years?  The program will be dead.

Re: Welcome to the grand delusion

Mr. Ferry seems to be developing an inability to handle reality.
