Offline Red Manning? Red did fire a coach with a winning record, but that was Mike Rice. Arnold went to TCU. Last edited by duq81 (2/11/2017 11:33 pm) Offline Ok, then it was Wendy Truskey who transferred to SMU. First WBB I ever saw put the ball between her legs on a drive to the hoop. Offline He was out coached at the end of the game. Once again. I no longer care about Ferry's shortcomings. I want him to keep messing up. We need for the season to be a disaster in order to get the needed medicine. Offline He was out coached at the end of the game. Once again. I no longer care about Ferry's shortcomings. And if the "Ferry Time Table" is to be Accepted - Is it 5 More Years of "MAY WE HAVE ANOTHER SIR?" From Robert Morris, Mansfield State - and Whomever is near the bottom of the A-10 - That is presuming St. Louis and GW get their programs together - someone else will drift downwards put probably still find a way to beat us. Offline Al, I really think if we can keep I-Mike, M-Lewis, Sanders, Robinson together a better coach can take them, Smith and Castro to the middle of the conference next year. Ferry's failure last night can be traced to the early noncon games lost in the final seconds because his last minute coaching to his kids was "play hard," rather than giving them something to help them win games. He got pantsed last night, plain and simple. He doesn't put his kids in a position to win. He still doesn't get what it takes in the A10. Down 3 with 8 seconds and Castro at the FT line, his best rebounder D-Lewis was nailed to the bench and he was playing a one, two twos and two threes. Two FT misses later, we put them back on the line where they not only sealed it, but they added even more FTs. Because Dave Harper has "long range plan" to build a solid program and not just compete for one or two years and then suck for five or six. Also, Harper never even gave me a cursory form-letter reply to my email last week. Interesting. He must be feeling the heat. This from the guy who told me he would always be there to listen....he was there for fans like me......."if you and your wife are in town, call my office and you will get tickets"......etc. Offline Could someone answer these questions? At this point, he should know what's up. No point in going back and forth with the fans now. Be patient, and wait for the end of the season. If nothing changes, then we'll know that either Harper is clueless, or his hands are tied by those controlling the purse strings. Offline Iron Duke12 I couldn't agree with you more on the timeout. Not only did they have time to set their defense, it also allowed them to foul and not let us shoot a three. It was a incredibly bad play by Castro who stood like a statue inviting the foul. He made no effort to get a shot up to chance getting a 3 shot foul called. Pointing again to Ferry's inability to get the ball in the correct players hands, Mike Lewis scored :37 seconds into the second half his next basket came at 7:14. How does your best player not touch the ball for 12 minutes. JRob's performance was outstanding also, and is a harsh indictment of Ferry's coaching. We wasted a year and a half on Darius as our center and now we watch Nayke who should be a 4 start in front of the only true 5 this team has. And guess who will start Wednesday night? It will not be #55. Offline Some people are mentioning that Ferry said that even a blind man can see that the arrow is pointing up.

Mike Rice was the most fun coach at Duquesne with his antics of "fainting" into his coaches arms after a bad call by refs, pointing out the bad spots on the arena floor in front of the opposing coach and his players before games, then having Ronnie Dixon stealing the ball when the dribbler hit the dead spot.
If he didn't lose Arnold due to grades, ( who became all conference at TCU, I think that was where he transferred) and Duquesne flunking out Ricky Tunstall, a 7 ft stud who could block shots and play, Mike could have become a legend.
Instead we got Jim Satalin and his goofy brother.
Rice used to send better FT shooters to the line when lesser ones were fouled.
Arnold went to SMU, no?
Mike lost his job because he basically didn't bring any talent in after Tunny and Joey Myers. His failure to bring in Chipper Harris was unforgivable. This was especially so when we discovered that none of his point guards (Sissini, Long, Cvitcovic) could bring the ball upcourt against a press. I remember it like it was yesterday. It was about 3/4 of the way through the season (81-82). we were a couple of games over .500, and playing a horrible Penn St. team at the Arena. We were up by double figures midway through the second half, when in desperation, they put on a full court press. This was a team led by slow footed point guard Mike Edelman. The Dukes began to turn the ball over. They struggled to even get the ball accross half court. Penn St. roared back and won, leaving the crowd in shock. After that, all we saw was pressure. The wheels came off as we hit the skids, setting a school record for losses (17). At the end of the season, Rice was shown the door. Then came the Gary Williams fiasco that resulted in Red Manning basically being fired. Satalin then came, and at the time it looked like a great hire, as his Bona teams were always pretty good. Early on, it looked like the young team he put together would eventually mature into something special. Of course this was derailed by the "rape case", and the decline of the program really went into high gear.

I remember the Duchesses, as they were then known, playing in the Civic Arena and Art McKennan's intro dragging out her home town: "From Ta-maaaaaaaaa-qua Pennnnnnnns-ylvania."

Yeah he knows he hitched his wagon to the wrong horse and he knows that no matter what happens at the end of this season, the choices are not good.

Re: Saint Louis Game Thread - Battle for the Basement Week
Can we still get invited to the CBI (Cancel Basketball Indefinitely Tournament?). Because just like announcers did this year, next year they can NAME DROP about how we made that tournament under Ferry but we are still young. What an honor to be invited again.
Can I still make my 16 game guess on yearly wins for DU basketball for the season? And I take full responsibility for that number for reading from others on our players/coaches instead of seeing the players about the upcoming talented team.
Will the athletic office contact me again about buying my previous season tickets? They should not need these calls since "going into year" 6 of Ferrys plan he will probably let everyone know he is actually ahead of schedule. Doesn't this mean he doesn't need to get invited to the NCAA until the 10th year?
I, like probably many of you went to the Ferry basketball first meeting at the Palumbo with Amodio being there and Ferrys staff. I have looked at articles on it and also tried to remember and I just don't recall his discussion of the 10 year plan. My bad.
