Re: Saint Joseph's Game Thread - Final Edition: For All the Crumbs

We've already clinched a 20-loss season. What else is there to play for?

Really hope Ferry can get a win for his last regular season A10 game of his career. Would be nice to kick his ass out the door on a high note.

I expect a win on Saturday. But that and any other win that might occur should not delay the inevitable.

Does this include the Pep Band, The Ticket Takers, The Ushers, The Cheerleaders, the Dance Troupe & The Mascot? (OOPS I forgot we don't have the Mascot any more - maybe he/she was too disgusted with how far the program has fallen)

Wait, SkepticAl and PistolPete, you obviously didn't know about this! This promo will really bring them in. Appropriate that the players will be dressed in black for the funeral of a coach's career. Or maybe they can pretend that they are VCU for a day.

My question is... What are they going to do with all the extra socks?

Since I have about 50 tee-shirts from the tee-shirt tosses over the years and dozens of the plastic balls when they had the ball tosses and Pantophlets game jersey before he bailed to play soccer, I might as well start a sock collection. I actually have dress tee-shirts (the ones without the burger king logo on the back), painting tee-shirts (the ones with the burger king logo on the back), yard work tee-shirts, and wedding and funeral tee-shirts (the nice red ones with no logo on the back).

My question is.....at $4.12, why even charge for the tickets. Yeah, cute it's the area code, but what looks better (or worse)? 4 bucks for any seat in the house or just free seats for everyone. DU will literally make tens of dollars on this promotion.

I hope this was decided before the season. Why else would a 20 loss team run a promotion on the last game of a sad sack season?

This has the feel of a last minute promotion.  I could not find anything about this promotion on the official Dukes website:  www.goduquesne.com

Re: Saint Joseph's Game Thread - Final Edition: For All the Crumbs

When do we reach the soft part of the schedule so we can string some wins together?

They ought to postpone this game til 4PM and have a viewing party of the women's tourney game between the Dukes and St. Joe. Maybe both men's teams could learn something sitting there watching how it's done. Probably not.

I'd be happy if they play the TV broadcast of the women's game on the scoreboard during the men's game.

My last drink was about 35 years ago. About the same time Duquesne gave up good basketball. I'm wondering if would help if I fell off the wagon.

Maybe they should charge $2.50 per ticket. After all, that is Ferry's overall win % in A-10 play.

Re: Saint Joseph's Game Thread - Final Edition: For All the Crumbs

This program is cursed. This was mike Lewis' worst game of the year. Silent all game and then misses two free throws with a chance to win. Brutal.

Re: Saint Joseph's Game Thread - Final Edition: For All the Crumbs

God Bless Him - I hope Ferry hugs Lewis and doesn't blame him.  - Like in most games that come down to the end, that is all folks remember.  It should not have come down to this.  Losing at home to another terrible team - Please Mr. Harper, help us with the misery of this basketball program.

Re: Saint Joseph's Game Thread - Final Edition: For All the Crumbs

This was probably the most heartbreaking loss of the season.  Hopefully Mike Lewis will shake this one off, but it should not have come to his free throws.  This is a game the Dukes should have won going away, after up 12.  In many ways, however, this game epitomized the entire season.  Stupid unforced turnovers, poor quick forced shots, no movement on offense, poor free throw shooting, weak rebounding. In the second half the Dukes showed no visible signs of coaching, The Dukes still view the zone defense like it is chinese arithmetic with no help from the bench.    If Ferry gets fired next week he really has no one to blame but himself.

Actually you were way off almost 1500 in the house.  Students are utterly useless at Duquesne, They just don't show at all!

Re: Saint Joseph's Game Thread - Final Edition: For All the Crumbs

The uniforms were good, performance not so good; I know you guys like to find ways to blame Ferry for every loss; but FT shooting, 3-point shooting along with some poor decisions lost this game.

Don't overlook a horribly amateur ref crew that was bad, even by A-10 standards.  They really hurt the Dukes at critical times when the could have put the game away.  Some off the wall  bad calls, while letting contact go on drives to the hoop.  The old guy needs to retire, he is just guessing out there; embarrassing himself and the league.  The young white guy just steals his money; really does little the whole game; and is usually wrong when he blows the whistle.

Why should they?  40 years of losing and no connection to any tradition of competence, let alone winning, I probably wouldn't care either
