Northwestern

Heading to the NCAAs for the first time ever, because of stuff like this.
 http://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=18804953

I know we can't win every game, but of the seven that we lost in the last seconds, think about what a full seven game swing would mean: a 17-13 record, no one wanting to play us in the A10, and a nice tournament run from the NIT.

A 5-2 record would have us at .500 with a game to go.

Re: Northwestern

The problem with this team is that they do not have players who can make the shots to win games in the clutch.

Time after time they have fallen short and ended up with the loss instead of the win, perhaps the freshmen being the shooter is the wrong choice but the point guards don't seem able to shoot well enough to put the ball in their hands at that critical time either.

This happened some times with Coulter over his 4 years also and even the knock on Mike James from way back was he couldn't consistently finish drives and this lead to several losses.

This team has more problems than just losing games at the end, and it is more than the coaching staff.

17-13 won't sniff the NIT. When Ron won 21 games, we were the very last team in the NIT that year.

Re: Northwestern

And with Northwestern in, that leaves seven teams ahead of us in the Big Dance futility stakes, only 2 of whom matter, Bowling Green and Rice.

And, oh look, Rice has a nice 20-9 season going, although they will probably not win their one bid conference, so it looks like the NIT for them

I just can't help but think of the three OOC games against garbage opponents they pissed away early.  Beating Pitt, but sill having a .500 OOC record had to take some wind out of the sails.

Re: Northwestern

El D, I can't resist, even if Ferry would call a play like that, and I am presuming you would need a big at the other end of the floor, here is what would happen:
A. Darius would not catch or would fumble the ball and not get a shot off;
B.  Sanders would catch the ball, get fouled, miss both shots sending the game to OT - where we would lose; and
C.  JRob would be picking splinters out of his arse from the bench!
That sounds about right

He'd go four small and a wing for something like that.
