Offline The uniforms were good, performance not so good; I know you guys like to find ways to blame Ferry for every loss; but FT shooting, 3-point shooting along with some poor decisions lost this game. I still cannot believe they called that a block. It was the most blatant walk I've seen in a long time. That cost the Dukes two points. Just horrible. Offline M.Lewis played 39 min and Blackman played 40 min. Offline I beg to differ about the coaching being the fault. 4-23 from 3. 16-26 from 2. Instead of the standard cross midcourt and hoist, MAKE the team work for a better two point shot. Take 5 fewer threes and five more twos, and chances are we win by three points. Offline Sorry not that simple they are a zone team and as long as they were sitting in that zone; they were going to dare you to make threes. St Joe's is a bad team because most any team will shoot them out of that zone. Duquesne did not just "launch" as you stated. They moved the ball well and regularly got wide open threes. At some point someone just needs to hit a few open shots. Offline Levon they took three more two point shots than three point shots, so they got looks somewhere. Like I said, take five more inside the arc and we might have won. Offline If 22 losses isn't enough to do the trick, I don't know what to say. With Pitt in disarray, this is the perfect time to make a move. Offline When do we reach the soft part of the schedule so we can string some wins together? Funny you should ask. I was just glancing at their schedule and it looks like the Dukes have five consecutive cupcakes coming up next week, beginning with the Billikens on Wednesday. They were much more effective when the Dukes got the ball inside to I Mike around the FT line. Much too little of that; very little interior movement showing to the ball vs the zone. To me, that's a consistent mark of Ferry's set offense - perimeter passes and lack of cutters culminating in a one on one play to try to get a shot. Offline And why don't you start your only 4 year senior, Darius Lewis, in his final home game? Oh right, the game was so critical for the success of the season. Sole possession of last place in the conference in 2 of your 5 years, Jimmy. Put that on your trophy wall. Offline When do we reach the soft part of the schedule so we can string some wins together? Sweep the A10 (5 wins), make the NCAA Tournament as a play-in team, and win straight through and we'll be national champions with a 23-21 record. I was going to make the same point. Not sure how anyone who watched the game can say the Dukes moved the ball well against the zone in the second half. Same "deer in the head light look" we have seen all season. To me, that's a consistent mark of Ferry's set Nope, you are overrating the talent level on the team. Duquesne's has no scorer with the length and shooting touch of Charley Brown. The guy just has that screes mentality. The 20-footer from the baseline was far from an open shot. They brought him from the opposite side to get a shot but it was defended pretty well. He just had the length and ability to make the shot, not a easy shot by any means. Offline 'Fraid I see it a little differently, gentlemen. Ferry, in presser, said his team played 35 minutes of offense, not 40, as though his team melted down solely at 5 minute mark of the game. Aint buying it. Ferry's team lost for two reasons, 1. due to second half fatigue in body and 2. in spirit. As for #1, while Martelli substituted freely keeping his team fresh in both halves, Ferry, already without JRob, characteristically chose to keep his subs,Castro and James, planted on the pine leaving his keys, the Mikes and Blackman, practically without blow entire game. Which showed in second half as Dukes appeared to go on funk or swoon for 8 to 10 minutes in middle of second half, unable to really push the ball on O and were beaten-up on the boards. Finally, #2: Once Dukes gain lead they play more to not lose rather than they play to win. Is it just me or does this team lack joy and play to have fun? 1 2 Jump to

Don't overlook a horribly amateur ref crew that was bad, even by A-10 standards. They really hurt the Dukes at critical times when the could have put the game away. Some off the wall bad calls, while letting contact go on drives to the hoop. The old guy needs to retire, he is just guessing out there; embarrassing himself and the league. The young white guy just steals his money; really does little the whole game; and is usually wrong when he blows the whistle.
Re: Saint Joseph's Game Thread - Final Edition: For All the Crumbs
I wonder if fatigue was a reason for the missed shots by Lewis and an earlier
Blackman turnover.
Also, neither James nor Castro played. Anyone know why?
Castro could have spelled Lewis and Blackman. Instead Littleton was used for
a handful of mins.
Re: Saint Joseph's Game Thread - Final Edition: For All the Crumbs
It really is that simple.

I guess I'm wondering if you even saw the game?
Re: Saint Joseph's Game Thread - Final Edition: For All the Crumbs
I do want to see this team win, Levon.
And PS, I really liked the black & gold jerseys. I would not be heartbroken if we changed colors.

Did you see the plat that Saint Joseph's ran with a little more than a minute left to take the lead for good? Movement from low to high with a cutter running the baseline; ball was swung in tandem with the cutter, resulting in a wide open 20 footer from the freshman Brown.
Ferry has much more talent than Martelli; he doesn't have a clue on how to use that talent to win. •Thread Starter

The Dukes got to the hoop by drawing their bigs out on the wing and having Blackman beat them to the hoop. It worked a lot, but they got good help on the last attempt by Blackman to drive the baseline, leading to a bad pass and the costly turnover. Joe's did play some man when trailing late but quickly went back to the zone when they got a lead. Duquesne should have punished their "man" but were going through one of those dry spells where everything was going wrong, and they couldn't make free throws consistently.
