Jack suffers stress fracture. - READING EAGLE Stess fractures can end up being an ongoing problem. This kid may eventually turn out to be a player, but it's obvious that he would have been of little help to us this year. 0-13 in league play, wow. I wonder what Ed DeChellis thinks. At least we have something to look forward to next season --- following the careers of Donovan Jack and TJ, and wondering what could have been. Just to set the record straight for those who haven't seen Donavan Jack play in person, I can tell you clearly that the kid is very slightly built, and is nowhere near being strong enough to play inside. Unless he gets on the juice in the future he could possibly be able play as a perimeter player that's about it, He couldn't have helped Duquesne any more than he helped PSU this year. He was not the savior that some on this board made him out to be. I wish the kid well, and hope he recovers to have a nice career, but it may have been best that he went to PSU. If this kid works out over the off season, puts on about 10-15 lbs, he'll be a beast. The raw athletic talent is evident. I think Jack would have been a very good A-10 player long run and I think he can be a decent Big 10 player. In either case, a redshirt would have made sense for him. Penn State freshman Donovon Jack has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his right foot and likely will miss the rest of the season.N i tt a ny Lions coach Pa t r i c k C h a m b e r s said Tuesday n i g h t t h a t the recovery time for Jack, the former Berks Catholic standout, could be six to eight weeks.Chambers said Jack first complained about soreness in his foot during practice Monday. Penn State’s medical staff treated it and he tried to practice Tuesday, but his foot bothered him. He underwent an MRI, which showed the stress fracture.“He was really starting to get better,” Chambers said. “For any freshman, when you’re the dominant kid in high school and you’re playing against other big kids, it’s an adjustment. When you’re the smartest kid in school and when some kids are smarter than you, everything was like, Wow!”The 6-9 Jack, an engineering major, has played in 17 games, scoring 29 points and grabbing 17 rebounds. He’s averaged 6.6 minutes per game for Penn State (0-13 Big Ten, 8-17). He scored a season-high eight points in a December win over Delaware State.“As a freshman you have peaks and valleys,” Chambers said. “He found a rhythm in the middle of January. He started to manage his time better. Things started to get better for him and then this.”

As far as TJ goes, we all know what he can do, and although he certainly has his strong points; he's no Mark Lyons, and AZ will miss the speed and quickness that Lyons brings to their team when he is gone next year. They will probably recruit a qucker point guard to go along with TJ.

Don't think for a second that Coach Ferry (and the Duquesne faithful) wouldn't be drooling in their soup to have him pounding the boards at the Palumbo.

Again, after having seen him play, I came away unimpressed. You can watch all of the AAU and High School footage you want but that is not D-1 basketball. He would not have helped the Dukes this season, and may not have helped them over the next three. He was a big fish in a little pond. I don't see this this "raw athletic talent" that you speak of. He looked a little awkward and weak. I don't think adding ten lbs will help him compete in the BIG or the A-10.
