Who didn't expect this result, two all rookie A-10 berths help Duquesne to only lose 22 games, next year bet we don't lose 23.

Re: A-10 Tourney Opening Round - Saint Louis Game Thread

if you have been paying attention over the past 5 years, this ending should come at no surprise to anyone. I do believe losing an 18 point lead in the second half matches our season high.

The sooner they fire him the better.

Re: A-10 Tourney Opening Round - Saint Louis Game Thread

They should have fired him mid-season.  With a little decent coaching, the Dukes could have won a half-dozen games down the stretch — especially tonight's game. Seriously, how do you squander an 18-point second half lead against a team with little depth and whose starters were in foul trouble before halftime?

I think Dukes2012 had it right.  Maybe we should just starting calling it the "Duquesne Curse."

Of course look at it this way, maybe this (whatever it is, I really lost count) losing streak was just God's way of making sure we get rid of Ferry, a little divine intervention perhaps?  I mean think about it. if they win tonight, they hold the lead at St. Boneventure, one of the shots goes in last week, and Lewis makes those foul shots, then Ferry is 14-18 and they are playing tomorrow and he probably stays!

Who was going to coach the team? If an assistant takes over, and does a half decent job, you end up in a Jim Crews type situation. Screw that! We don't need any complications like that. You fire at the end of the year, when replacements are available. Winning 3-4 more games was not going to make a difference, other than to maybe convince the board that no changes were needed. Once the season was lost, I hoped for an epic collapse, and we got it. A big stomach ache was necessary, in order to convince those in charge that an enema was the proper course of action. Let's hope those in charge got the message.

Good points, Tejas and duq81.  Divinely inspired or not, I just hope the complete collapse — losing 14 of their last 15 games, several in heartbreaking fashion — wasn't all for naught.

Re: A-10 Tourney Opening Round - Saint Louis Game Thread

A sad, sad end to another miserable season. No surprise though. Inexplicable substitutions, not playing Robinson, very unimaginative offense i.e. every trip down the court mirrored the last trip down the court, woeful defense. Now we wait and see.

WE ARE CREEPING UP TO THE SECOND FLOOR....

Re: A-10 Tourney Opening Round - Saint Louis Game Thread

After tonight's insanity I guess I have to change my belief that Ferry will stay.  Terrible.

Still say it will be difficult to get anyone of quality here - unless maybe we are prepared to pay big time and for a lot years.

Re: A-10 Tourney Opening Round - Saint Louis Game Thread

How many more times are Duke fans going to be forced to watch the horror movie of a coach up by 18 or more points in the second half and find a way to lose?  This is beyond pathetic.

Did anyone see this quote last night by Ferry in A10 talk?  What??

Jim Ferry: Sometimes it's personnel stuff that's the problem. We know what we have coming in. This isn't going to happen again.

It sure won't happen again because you won't be here.

Re: A-10 Tourney Opening Round - Saint Louis Game Thread

Can someone please explain to me how St. Louis was able to spring cutters open all night for easy layups while we almost never got an easy bucket. The points in the paint were so one sided. Just incomprehensible! Felt bad for Emile but the real goat last night was not wearing a uniform!

Wow. I'm absolutely sick of the bs and throwing his kids under the bus. What an ass****, it's your fault Jim, no one else's. If you can't finish off an 18 point second half lead by coaching your team to just maintain the victory it all comes back to you. All of this garbage comes back to you, gtfo.

Re: A-10 Tourney Opening Round - Saint Louis Game Thread

Again last night as in St Joe on Sunday and likely most of the late season losses, the answer sets right in front of us. Dukes 4 starters (2 Mikes, Blackman and Smith) averaged 38 minutes while SLU had only 2  play more than 30 minutes.  (Fatigue makes cowards of us all - Vince Lombardi.)  When the legs get heavy and it's crunch time any wonder you can't compete on the boards or make fouls.  Ferry's hidden agenda: he has no room for James, Castro or JRob  - and lets this season go to hell.

Hiltopper, you are 100% correct.  It is a mystery why Castro is now stuck to the bench and could not provide any relief minutes unless Ferry is forcing him out.  You could see by the lack of movement on offense in the last 5 minutes that these guys were spent.  Sorry but Ferry has proven over and over again he can not coach at the A10 level.  Time for a change.

Re: A-10 Tourney Opening Round - Saint Louis Game Thread

Funny how in the article yesterday in the PG, it mentioned the Dukes lost a lot of games by fewer than 8 points, and BAM! what happens last night, another punch to the gut.  The Paint building was empty for that game, pathetic.  I hope for the A10's sake people start showing up today and tomorrow for the long weekend.

The A-10 announced that the revenue from ticket sales before the start of the tournament at PPG exceeded a million dollars, breaking all previous ticket sales' revenues from each of the previous tournaments.  I don't think that the A-10 will be embarrassed with the turnout for the tournament. http://www.atlantic10.com/ViewArticle.dbml?&DB_OEM_ID=31600&ATCLID=211515998
