We can only dream......

Amazing the effect that an energeitc, enthusiastic, and engaged student body can have on a game. Too bad the Duke-Maryland college basketball rivalry is ending though.

Re: We can only dream......

Maryland used to be a rival with Duquesne in late 60's and early 70's, both were ranked in top 20 and were usually televised back to Maryland when they came to Pgh and Civic Arena. Lefty Drisell was their coach and a colorful one at that. Duquesne fortunes took a dive in mid 70's and Red Manning ruined the possible hiring of Gary William of American U., he went to Md. And the series ended about that time or a little before, I recall listening to games at the Cole Field House and Lionel "Big Train" Billingy battling the Md big men, good times when we were a respected program at Duquesne.

Re: We can only dream......

A friend gave me a copy of Duquesne Magazine.  Inside it sais that Duquesne is going to produce DVD's for sale.  The section is called Great Moments in Duquesne History.  After the 16 mm film is transposed to DVD's, the sale will begin.

Nice to know they saved all those Kinescopes!  Was it hard to add sound?

Will they enlist Ted Turner to colorize the film?

Re: We can only dream......

I hope they make a copy of the 61-58 loss to #1 Cincinnati in 1960.  The Dukes held Oscar Robertson to 13 points.  I still remember my first Duquesne team-Strom, Stromlpe, Slobodnick, Benec, and Arnold.

Actually Phil, Gary Williams turned down Duquesne and took the BC job in 1982; and stayed at BC until 1986 when he took the Ohio State job before ending up at Maryland.  I recall a game at the Civic Arena when Maryland came to town with a loaded team under Lefty to play the Dukes.  I believe Tom McMillan was on that team along with several other stars.

Levon:  Was Williams there at BC during the point shaving scandal?
