Truth and Consequences

Greg Amodio just gave Duquesne a shot across the bow.  Recent on-line piece named Mike Rice, Jr as Greg's top choice for Quinnipiac then casually mentioned Duquesne's Ferry as a candidate, as well. What?  Is this a bad joke?   While at Duquesne Greg always played his cards close to the vest.  Now, all of a sudden he changes his tactics?  Don't count on it.  Rather, Greg understands Jim is a goner and like a Cheshire cat lying in waiting simply awaits Harper's execution of the dirty deed.

The same Greg that was and is continually ridiculed within the DU community, the same Greg who brought in Ron, Susie and Dan, the same unappreciated Greg essentially run out of town worse than Jamie, now has the golden opportunity to bring in a coach with portfolio and thereby place his Quinnipiac on the NCAA basketball map.  At best, say goodbye to Wheeler, Walker and Big Lew while at worst throw in Mike and Mike, too.

Mr. Harper, best wishes to you and yours.

You've got to be kidding. Those players might leave, but they won't leave to go to Quinnipiac. You don't leave the Atlantic 10 to go play in the MAAC unless you're glued to the bench. Those guys would be looking to move up, not down.

Re: Truth and Consequences

Hilltopper, thanks for revealing your true colors.

I hope you stick around for what I think will be a better era of Duquesne basketball, but if you don't I hope you live long enough to see Quinippiac reach its peak in 10 years.

If Ferry slips any poison pills into the program then so be it. As Ron proved, you can start over and win.

Re: Truth and Consequences

Hilltopper, no disrespect but are you the same guy who use to post as "Mr. Brightside".  Just one simple question:  If Amodio wants Ferry why not just hire him before it becomes known that he was fired at Duquesne (if the sources prove to be correct).  I am sure Harper would grant him permission to talk to Ferry.  To wait until after the so called "dirty deed" as you say would really reflect badly on Amodio and make it harder for Amodio to gain fan support on the hire.  Sorry, but even if you are right about Amodio wanting Ferry, waiting untill he is fired does not make sense to me.

Re: Truth and Consequences

CLK you are on the money regarding Amodio and Ferry.

Ferry is gone. Done deal. I wouldn't post this if I didn't know it to be a fact.

Go Dukes! The road to winning again is now open.

Re: Truth and Consequences

I think Amodio would face some criticism for hiring Ferry, even if he did it before the firing, which thankfully looks likely now.

Also, that Mike and Mike would follow Ferry, and sit out a year so that they could play in the MAAC is an idea that doesn't make a lot of sense.

ElDuque not doubting you, just trying to make a point in response to Hilltopper's post.

Re: Truth and Consequences

Guys, if what El D says is true, and I suspect all signs (lack of endorsement by Harper) indicate it is, then who in the hell cares what GA does at Quin????  Ferry is a good guy, nice person etc., but he just lacked the coaching chops to get it done.  If JF had won the OOC games last year that he should have he would have had a 20 win season and this year but for the 3 disaster OOC loses and the loses to St. Joe's and St. Louie he wins at least 16 games and he would have probably gotten an extension which frankly no one would have argued with.  Alas, it was on Jim that he and his way below par staff that he didn't get it done.  As a person I think we can all say that we wish he and his family the best.  As for all of us, let's move forward with the NEW ERA!  Forget Quin or the crap that brought us to this point - just a suggestion guys!

Actually, Ferry did win the OOC games last year that he should have. It was the last third of the season that killed him. In some ways, it was similar to the collapse in Ron's second to last year. Both times the program was set to take a big step forward, and it didn't happen. The difference is that the collapse continued into the next season under Ferry, while Ron was able to post a decent record despite limited talent beyond his top 2 players.

Re: Truth and Consequences

Confusion alert:  When you guys are talking about OOC "last year" are you talking about this season, where the games were played in calendar 2016, or last season's OOC?

Pete: Ferry had a good OOC record last season, something like 10-3, even pounding Penn State.  So that argument doesn't fly.

Re: Truth and Consequences

My bad, JF did what he needed to OOC last season. it was the in conference collapse that sucked and this year everything sucked.

Re: Truth and Consequences

Caution!  Severe weather warning!  Breakout of unbridled and serendipitous "hope and change"  pressure front rapidly consuming the Boardhost - Dukes page.  This weather pattern, while dangerous, is not the first of its kind.  In fact, same pattern consumed its predecessor, Voy Board, when Board hopeful coaches named Dunlap, Groce, Mick Cronin and Waters were bandied about to lead DU to the Promise Land.  Of course, DU could afford none of the above and as far as I can tell not one has made to a final four. Some barely hanging on to the jobs they have. Add to that, last we looked Shaka Smart at 11 and 22 this year for second year in row has taken Texas from middle of the pack to the bottom.  Finally, to my friend CLK, a Brightside blogging here would be an oxymoron and has no place among us well-trained brooders.

Re: Truth and Consequences

Well, you're not entirely correct. Plenty of optimism when Ron arrived. The (profanity) show organized by Amodio featuring Dambrot, Gaudio and Ferry is what started the bear run.
