The perfect storm

This is the perfect time to hire a coach at Duquesne ! If the renovations are true, that is selling point number one. Selling point two is, Pitt being down and people questioning every move Stallings makes and the AD that hired him no longer there to support him, that can be a total mess. ( Maybe we can be the number one team in  Pittsburgh again, like when I was young and watched those teams in the late sixties and early seventies) With several big jobs opening this season, they will be trying to get Wade, Miller and Hurley to their schools.  So let's root like hell these schools do well in the tourney for the A 10 and Duquesne sake. Point number three being , is, if these coaches are gone, it looks like all A 10 teams are starting from scratch. Point four, the A10 has been the top mid major conference for the past several years.

One stipulation for our next coach is that he hire a former player as one of his assistants. This will be our coach in waiting, when this new coach leaves for a better opportunity. Then, maybe we will keep the former player for years as our coach and he then hires his former players as assistants and so on, so we don't have this forty year mess any more.

My choice of coach is Mitch Henderson from Princeton, eight years at Northwestern as an assistant and five successful years as the head coach at Princeton. I know some of you feel that his recruits are not A 10 caliber, but his last four years of recruits rank right up there with the powers of the A10, and are superior to what we have had one the bluff ! Watch his team play for the Ivy title today and how his team is coached and how they play. Second choice is the Vermont coach. Let's root for Rhode Island so we get three A10 teams in tourney for Duquesne and the conference. It's tip time, good luck Mr Harper !

Wade, Miller, and Hurley leaving would be a disaster for Duquesne. We don't want those schools looking for coaches. No coach is going to choose coming here over a spot at one of those schools. The fewer openings at our level, the better.

Re: The perfect storm

Duq 81, 95 % of the schools that are mid majors and above are going to be better jobs than Duquesne. You are going to have that problem every year until we turn this thing around. Just because they are the better jobs does not mean the fit between coach, school, administration and recruits is going to mesh or be a right fit for that particular program. Just ask the schools that are presently looking for coaches. No one says that those schools will hire the correct coach. After Jim Harrick left Rhode Island they hired coach Degregerio and he was absolutely terrible.  I believe there are enough good coaches out there and you have to find the perfect fit and get lucky. Therefore with all the other points I made for the perfect storm, I would rather the new coach go up against Dayton VCU and Rhode Island without Miller, Wade, and Hurley and have him face a new coach at those schools.

Re: The perfect storm

Per CBS Sports after the URI win over VCU
"BIG PICTURE

Rhode Island: A signature moment for fifth-year coach Danny Hurley, who has steadily rebuilt the program since taking over in 2012."

Jim who?

And still nothing in the press. I hope they all know they were scooped.

ElDuque, I'm surprised that no one in Pittsburgh sports dug a little and ran with this story. Thanks for your efforts.

Re: The perfect storm

No effort on my part. Good people who care volunteered the information.

Re: The perfect storm

So far the only mention I have seen is on DK Sports and they are ambivalent at best, seeming to think there is still a chance he is retained. I hope to God your sources are right ED.
