C'mon Iron Duke. We're all (or mostly; a few posters make me wonder) on the same side. Chick should be in the Hall. Guys from his era get penalized because they don't have a bunch of trips to the NCAA Tournament, which didn't exist during most of his run. Ridiculous that Chick Davies isn't in the HOF, Hard to believe, no way that can be justified! I don't know how the basketball Hall Of Fame makes it's selections, but Chick is a no brainer selection. His record is truly outstanding. Let's put all new coach speculation in this thread. Rice has a son (Alexander) who starts at St Anthony's as a soph this year. Looks smart on the court and really nice stroke Not much on the dribble, but seems to be an alert passer. I sort of doubt he'd be a high major recruit but looks a bit like he is still developing. Qunnipac fired their coach today - maybe their A.D. will do us a favor - Make his buddy Jim Ferry an "offer he can't refuse" - One of the Ten Year Variety!!!! A site that keeps up to date on coaching changes A site that keeps up to date on coaching changes Read Sideline Hoops: "Ferry likely done at Duquesne" i only got 2 words for ya....... i only got 2 words for ya....... Can we afford to gamble on a 29 year old? It's not like any of Coach K's guys have become elite coaches. HIRE SCHEYER! That kid has a grand total of three years of experience as an assistant coach at one school. That is a huge gamble from an organizational, recruiting, and tactical perspective. i only got 2 words for ya....... Yeah no way I would go after him. He's still cutting his teeth. Kevin Keates! At least take a shot i only got 2 words for ya....... Yeah no way I would go after him. He's still cutting his teeth. Kevin Keates! At least take a shot I'd love to get Keatts. Might be a year too late as some big dogs seem to be on his trail. LeVelle Moton I don't know if he is the best fit but I like what I see of this guy's teaching ability. Looks like he is a high intensity guy with a very nice track record. I can see why Harper might put him on the list No head coach of any stature is coming here. If you haven't noticed, this is where careers come to die. I tried to compile a list of all the coaches mentioned in this thread, hopefully it makes it easier to read or comprehend Saw this tweet. I think that is what it is going to take to get the right guy. Last edited by CLK (3/13/2017 7:00 pm) This may be the school shooting it's best shot. They won't be spending a million bucks on a prospect, so forget about guys like Kenya Hunter. One million might be enough to land Becker, or someone like him, which is what they need to do. Got to wonder if Brian Gregory is on Harper's radar with the Dayton connection. This may be the school shooting it's best shot. He did a good job at Dayton, but not great. He is not someone who excites me. This may be the school shooting it's best shot. I would think, however, these guys would be hard to sell. Last edited by CLK (3/13/2017 8:04 pm) Grupp of the Trib advocates for Matt Driscoll. DK Pittsburgh Sports actually listed Ron Everhart as a possible candidate, along with Mike Rice. Matt Driscoll has his roots in Pittsburgh. I think Mike Rice might be too much of a risk for the money DU is offering. Just wonder how he would be received, and how well he would be able to recruit. Zeise came out with this today - Last edited by indygjm (3/13/2017 8:14 pm) Zeise came out with this today - I don't pay much attention to Zeise. What he has not taken into consideration is the change in leadership and the willingness of the University to back up their commitment to winning in terms of both coaches salary and facilities to attract the right guy (assuming all we are hearing is true). Zeise came out with this today - Duquesne should have hired Flint when they got rid of Porter. I doubt that he would have made us a power, but I bet he would have done about as well as he did at Drexel, which was a lot better than Nee did. That said, I wouldn't bring him in now. They have to aim as high as they can. I hope they can do better than the recycle bin.

No Duquesne coach is in the hall of fame and the pinnacle of our existence in basketball is the 1955 NIT. Three years before I was born. Calipari is a cheater who has had NCAA Tournament teams vacated at two different schools. S. Miller is a head. No one loves the city of Pittsburgh or its people more than me, but the answer is not going to be found within the city limits any time soon.
Peace.

Another candidate is King Rice of Monmouth. He's a Tar Heel, who played under Dean Smith. It took him 4 years to have a modest 18-15 winning record, but in year five he won 28 games. This is his 6th year, and they are 18-5.
Saw King on an interview at half time; always referred to Hurley as "Mr. Hurley." Seemed quaint, but the guy is a legend. But I agree with others that I doubt he would be looking to take a "half step up" to Duquesne

I saw this guy mentioned as a possible candidate at NC St. I don't think they would hire a low major coach, but compare how quickly he got things going, to how long it took Ferry. Definitely a guy to put on our list.

His points are well made. But, how much longer was Harper supposed to 'work with Ferry to help him be successful'? Five more years? I don't think he gives the present administration enough credit for making a difficult decision that had to be made. Also, Mike Rice? Would any player want that temperament in their next coach?
