His record looks like Ferry's. Two winning seasons in eight years. 52 years old. He's from Pittsburgh. More yinzer nonsense. If this is the best we can do, go bring Ron back. I'd take a retread first.

Re: New coach thread

Please please do not consider Brian Gregory. This guy could recruit and he had talent but he sucked as a
X and O guy,his teams were pathetic on the road.I  live in Ohio and I follow UD ,please ask the Flyer fans
as he was awful. He had teams that had 12 A10 quality players and still lost to Duquesne during the RE
years when Duquesne was playing 2 walk ons and that 10- 40 garbage.Brian Gregory is the last coach
I would hire.I remember Duquesne beat them and asked Amodio how a team as deep in talent could lose
to Duquesne and he didnt understand it either.Go to the UD message boards and ask them about Brian
Gregory. POISON ,POISON,Why even bring his name up after 5 years of Ferry.Very similar coaches.
Never bring his name up again. TERRIBLE,AWFUL, COACH ,DECENT GUY. ASK ANYONE WHO
KNOWS UD AND THEY WILL TELL YOU HE SUCKED AS A COACH. The reason Duquesne has sucked is stupid ADs hiring coaches who suck.Everhart and Satalin were theonly decent coaches hire in last 30 years.Edgar sucked, worst coach Duquesne ever hired.Had good talent Pipkins,JAMES,the kid from Duquesne PA.who is in federal prison and NICK  Bosnic. He sucked,it was pathetic,Kevin Price from DHS
and terrible coaching. John Caroll sucked as everyone on the team hated his guts, arrogent SOB.
Carroll  recruited hard but hed go after players that were Top 100 playerrs who were not coming to DUQUESNE . Satalin was a  good coach but the president was a jaggoff in Nesti. Goofy Nesti nearly
destroyed Duquesne and Satalin got caught up in the rape trial of the 4 players and he just lost his
spirit and gave up.He would have been very successful had that incident not happened. Emmett Sellers
was a very good player but he got fat after the trial and was not the sames.I think of Scott Edgar and
cringe when I think of the damage he created at Duquesne..He is probalbly a used car salesman in
Middle of knowwhere Kansas. There have been terrible coaches come through Duquesne.

Re: New coach thread

perhaps close to importance in finding the right head coach is having a budget for the new HC to hire assistants. one man won't be able to do it all, and it was mentioned somewhere in this thread or another that the current assistants aren't up to stuff either.

I hate myself for loving you. Quoting me without the expressed written consent of the National Hockey League is prohibited.

South Florida. Thank god. Not an inspiring choice at all.

USF is not a bad spot for him. Modest expectations that he should be able to meet. I saw Anthony Grant mentioned somewhere, and after looking at his record, I'm really warming up to him, almost to the point where he'd be my top target. I don't know what he's making at Oklahoma City, as i don't know what they pay assistants in the NBA, but I'd approach him. His resume blows away most of the guys we've been talking about. One losing season in 9 years as a coach. Here are his win totals between VCU, and Alabama: 28, 25, 24, 24, 23, 21, 18, 17, 13. Sign me up right now. It's also a plus that those wins came at VCU, and Alabama, as opposed to Podunk St. You know he can coach at this level.

Wouldn't be too upset with any of those guys.

Anthony Grant is an interesting candidate. Played at Dayton, too, although his career there happened when Mr. Harper was probably in high school.

From Mike DeCourcey: Larry Davis, Cincinnati associate head coach: "Did phenomenal job as interim in 2015, great eye for overlooked talent."

First paragraph guy says he really likes Ferry as a person, then this beauty, "Last year, injuries really hurt the team. This year, they were young."

Next year [insert excuse] and the following year [insert excuse].

How many games did Mr. Crowley see? Not too many would be my best guess!

"Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's"

Let the Zeise's & Crowley's of the world rant away.
They have no vested interest in the program outside of selling click stream ad revenue on their blogs.
Their recent articles are Click bait ... and have no basis of knowledge of the program other than peripheral observations & emotional imprints based on a one way weekly interview.
After reading Zeise's piece, I'd have thought DU just fired John Wooden.
And Crowley's lacked any evidence based stats on Game-day tactical coaching ability and how to develop players over a 3-4 year timeline.
Very happy Coach Ferry was successful at Plymouth State & Adelphi.  And it only took 8 years at LIU Brooklyn to reach the NCAA's via an automatic berth in the powerhouse NEC.
He has $1.2 million reasons to move on.

Yep - you are supposed to do nothing because Duquesne hasn't shown a commitment but letting a failing coach go along with an indication that DU may finally be taking the program seriously isn't enough.

It's insane to me that there is this directed attack by the media at the university for firing one of the worst coaches it has ever had numbers wise. It's like they are so lazy they are just recycling the same narrative from when Ron was fired. The firing of Ferry passes the eye test and makes sense on paper when you look at the numbers.

Shocking that the school fires a lame duck coach, is probably putting a ton of money down to renovate its facilities, and is reportedly raising the next coaches salary to be nationally competitive in trying to get one of the bigger coaching names and the media's response is to slam the administration and say that this job is impossible. With those three things I mentioned plus the talented core that is here at least for now, I would argue the exact opposite, the university is finally taking steps and making commitments to actually be competitive.

I just don't understand why things are being portrayed this way.

Because they are hacks.
And make their money & living on ignorant, fact-less statements that placate to the sensational.
Our own blog out-scooped them ...on two big announcements (Potential Palumbo renovations & Coach Ferry's dismissal)
Enough said

Re: New coach thread

D102 I think your comment very succinctly summarizes what most of us are thinking and frankly cut and paste it in a response to Zeise and send it to any other hack who is criticizing this needed move, which has thus far been handled very professionally and seamlessly.  We just have to make the next decision the correct one - a quality Coach - and I for one am starting to believe our University is unified and desirous of finally making DU hoops relevant again.  I will be buying season tickets again to show support and may even assist the AD Department in other revenue raising ventures!  GO DUKES

They kind of went for the "stable guy" theory, much experience, runs a clean program, good guy, good in the living room, everyone likes him but can't coach. After the Antigua disaster they aren't looking to get rich quick anymore at USF.  Good luck to them with Brian Gregory.  I was worried we might take the easy way out again and hire him.

I think we need an impactful guy who can not only coach but has some charisma.  Someone who is bold and confident that he can handle the job.

Re: New coach thread

The Cincinnati  Assoc Head Coach would be interesting.  They play with the kind of aggression needed in the A-10.  We haven't seen that in a long time.  Cincy seems to play with a chip on their shoulder; I like that!

Somewhat off topic, go to Zach Weiss twitter and read his
article about Ferry's firing.
A good analysis.
