Bonnies Part II

The Dukes will wear black new uniforms and giving away black tee shirts.  They are calling it a black out.  What is ironic is that the last couple of days DU has had a massive power outage forcing students out of the dorms.

Re: Bonnies Part II

With four games left, I want to see if this team still has enough pride to fight so as not to finish in last place.  This is a game we can win today.  They probably would need to find a way to win one or two more, but it is possible.  But we need to start with the Bonnies.  In the words of olden days....Let's Go Dukes!

Re: Bonnies Part II

Same sad old story.  The Dukes wheels fall off down the stretch.  The good news is there are only three games left in this miserable season.

Re: Bonnies Part II

I got to wonder why Ferry did not play D-Mart to back up Marhold.  Datt remains lost on the court. He looks like he never had a day of basketball coaching in his life.

Re: Bonnies Part II

Kind of appropriate that they wore black, isn't it?   The "program" is pretty much dead, why not have a wake for it.

I don't agree, this year yes, but yes next year and beyond. Colter, Jay Jones and Q are playing important mins and improving. Wish Marhold had been redshirted as frosh, he would have been a good bridge for Watkins. Lets see what recruits come in, we know two graduate, the others will see little time in the future. Binney has become a lights out defender and can put in 6-10 a game, sometimes.

I lived thru JC first year and RE's, lets give this program another chance to return to respectability and beyond.

Seriously Phildog, I don't know how you have put up with 37 years of being a fan and not going to the NCAA tournament.  You have a higher tolerance for pain than I do.

Sincerely, you gentleman that are in your 50s, 60s and maybe even 70s and support this program are the only thing keeping it on life support.

I hope they send you a thank you letter every once in a while.

They do.  But we get a lot more letters asking for more money.

that winning streak of clark and saunders team a few years ago had national sports networks talking about Duquesne like the old days, that was a reward, but the team folded and then the current heartbreak began.

Being in Pittsburgh, we have lots of practice. 20 years of nothing from the Pirates. For those who may follow Pitt on the football side, there's 30 years of garbage as well. Of course, the Steelers are always there to ease the pain.

Re: Bonnies Part II

I am another fan in the 60 plus catagory having graduated from the School of Music in 1969. I do remember the great times and do long for them once more. I applauded the hiring of RE and was very disappointed when things turned out the way they did. Moving forward, I still have great enthusiasm for the program and want to see it succeed as much as ever. I see no reason to be discouraged by this year and do look forward to future seasons when several of Jim Ferry's recruiting classes will be in place. With enough talent, Ferry will compete in whatever conference we play in. Both Butler and VCU played in conferences that could not compare to the current A-10. Gonzaga is another example of a great program playing in an "average" conference. These teams enjoyed great success despite where and who they played. I truly believe if we recruit the athletes to compete, we will enjoy success once again regardless of conference and despite arguments to the contrary.

Re: Bonnies Part II

Kind of tired of always talking about the past...makes it more frustrating for the recent past - like 20 years with some light in RE.  Some folks talk about the MACC or NEC as that if we went, we would be a leader.  Not!  Robert Morris just took over first place in the NEC again and we can't beat them.  We are a door mat and the change has to come from within.

That is always a stupid argument. Dropping down assures you of nothing. You end up with lesser players when you drop down.

Let's adopt RMU and root for them the rest of the way to the NCAA Tournament.

Yeah that's what I want to do.  Root for the team that has taken over second place in the city. I'd prefer to Complain about the Dukes from Duquesne before rooting for them.

Not talking of dropping down. Talking of being a solid team wherever we play, hopefully in a still strong A-10. We just don't know enough to pass judgement on the future of the conference. Again, how did Gonzaga,VCU, and Butler remain strong and extremely competitive in conferences considerably weaker than the A-10.

As you can see, those schools are strong because they made the commitment. VCU and Butler have stepped up into the A10 during a good year for the league, and have not taken a step back. Duquesne wouldn't be a contender in the MAAC, even with the players we have now. That said, there can be a degree of luck involved. Almost every team will eventually have a season or two where they are much more competitive than usual. The question then will be; can they build on it. UMass did in the 1990's, St. Joe's didn't in the 2000's. Can Bona, and LaSalle build on what they've done, or will they soon slide back to the bottom? VCU is on their third coach during their run. That is a very good sign. Butler had a more gradual rise. We can't have any road blocks thrown in our way though. I believe that three of our last 6 coaches were in position to have success, but were undermined by unforeseen obstacles. Satalin never recovered from the rape case. RE never quite recovered from the shooting, and Carroll was likely done in by Colleary's ill fated move to the MCC. We are due to catch a break.

Re: Bonnies Part II

St. Bonaventure just won the Atlantic 10 Men's Swimming & Diving Championship.  Come on, good swimmers in Buffalo?  If they can get good swimmers to Buffalo, Duquesne can get good basketball players to Pittsburgh.

That is my main beef with this AD and this athletic department.  Every other school wins at something except for us.   Fordham won women's softball a few years ago to go the NCAA tournament.  SBU wins swimming.  LaSalle won women's soccer.   I went through and counted and every other A10 school had been to the NCAA tournament is some sport during Amodio's tenure.

But no please don't hold him accountable for anything.   He replaced bleachers in the Palumbo Center.

We. Win. Sh*t.

Re: Bonnies Part II

Dr D replaced the bleachers! As president Dr D does not hire coaches attract students increase season tickets & win A-10 conference championships. He is president & a good one.Blame & praise should be directed to the appropriate party. Agree the past is the past live in the present.
