Gotta laugh out loud on that call-out ... because it is true ... Students have been MIA ... for awhile ... can you blame them? Offline I'm just going to wait until Haper tells us...no more looking at twitter Offline LeVelle Moton I don't know if he is the best fit but I like what I see of this guy's teaching ability. Looks like he is a high intensity guy with a very nice track record. I can see why Harper might put him on the list Maybe things will change, but it sure sounded from the video of his Presser today that Becker is not interested in leaving Vermont. So the question is who else would you like to see DU go after, Fife, Davis, Dooley, Driscoll, Mike Rice, other? I have to wonder if DU or its agent reached out to Moton? He has only had played and coached at one school but he has been successful. Offline LeVelle Moton I don't know if he is the best fit but I like what I see of this guy's teaching ability. Leaves Kansas and takes over FGCU (division one program since 2011!) in 2013. First year record of 22-13, goes to the NCAA tourney, and beats #2 Georgetown in the first round. Then they beat #7 seed Sdsu and goes to the Sweet sixteen in his first year. In the programs 3rd year in d1. Last edited by Duques102 (3/22/2017 6:09 pm) Offline Dooley took over a winning program and has maintained it nicely. His next job will be a Power 5 job; not an A-10 job. I know the $$ would be better for him but he'll stay at FGCU until the time is right for a P-5 job worth even more $$$. Offline I have noticed a few posts regarding the Varez Ward point shaving at Auburn. I have been in compliance in The NCAA and very familiar with this case. There was no collateral damage what so ever from this incident to Coach Barbee, his staff or the University. In fact Coach Barbee was commended on how he handled the situation in such a swift manner reporting it to compliance immediately. Actually the case never went to trial and Ward plead not guilty and was allowed to enter into a diversion arrangement with the courts. Actually the case never went to trial and Ward plead not guilty and was allowed to enter into a diversion arrangement with the courts. My issue with Barbee is less Varez Ward, and more his awful record while at Auburn. Auburn's a tough place to win, but so is Duquesne. 49-75 is not going to get it done. Compare that to Anthony Grant, who was at Bama during the same period, and is looked at as a failure. He went 117-85. If Barbee had just been a .500 coach at Auburn, you might be able to convince me, but a .395 winning percentage is nearly as bad as Jim Ferry (.382). Offline Not trying to convince you of anything was just trying to bring some clarity to the mentioned situation. Agree with you Auburn is a very difficult place to win. Just ask Bruce Pearl who they are paying over two million a year. After year three just completed they finished 12th in the standings were eliminated in round 1 of SEC Tournament by Missouri!!! He is 16-38 in conference (.296) and 44-54 over all (449) TOUGH PLACE Offline Revealing Sour Grapes from UTEP:

doubt a school like Duquesne that gets 100 students to games has a student body capable of recognizing an America East basketball coach.
Even at 10-22 and another re-start of the program - it will never get old to repeat the Pitt game outcome
And the good turnout of DU students at PPG Paints.Arena to see the can o whoop a$$ we put on Pitt this year.

I saw this guy mentioned as a possible candidate at NC St. I don't think they would hire a low major coach, but compare how quickly he got things going, to how long it took Ferry. Definitely a guy to put on our list.

In his first 4 seasons his win totals are 22, 22, 21, and 26 this year. NCAA tourneys in 2013, 2016, and 2017. They won their first round tourney game in 2016 and narrowly lost in the first round this year against #3 seed Florida State.
This looks like the best resume I've seen yet. This guy recruits way above his conference and his team plays extremely entertaining basketball ("Dunk City").
I would love to get Dooley.
Contracted until 2019 season. Making $275,000.
Looks doable.
Re: New coach thread
Dooley was once an assistant at a high level program who became a HC. That may be our best shot; a young aggressive high level assistant ready to make his mark instead of some cynical old guy.
Re: New coach thread
I wouldn't be opposed to Dooley either. He's done well at FGCU. His first teams were sub par on offense while being decent on defense and now they have reversed. The A-Sun (A-Fun n Gun) doesn't seem to be a defensive oriented league. Also, it was Andy Enfield that coached FGCU to the Sweet 16.
Driscoll's teams have the defensive ratings that resemble the profile of Ferry. The local angle isn't something that I care about to give him bonus points over anyone else mentioned.

"ALL of the info on Pitt's coaching search for a week was pure garbage, right up until we heard Stallings name, the day before it was publicly acknowledged. All the false rumors did was to disappoint fans who wanted and were led to believe a young, rising coach was going to be hired."
Captures it perfectly.

The good news is that I cannot think of a single coach that would disappoint me as much as his hiring did Pitt fans. Even Matt Driscol would excite me more than Stallings,

Barbee spent four seasons in El Paso, and the Miners improved steadily each year. The 2009–10 season was the highlight during Barbee's tenure. The Miners made the NCAA Tournament for the first time in five seasons. Their regular season conference title was the first since the 2003–04 season, when UTEP was a member of the WAC. Barbee was named the C-USA Coach of the Year, as well as the NABC District 11 Coach of the Year.[5]The Miners went 82–52 (.612) under Barbee's leadership. The Barbee era at Auburn was fraught with off the court issues. Following the 2011–12 season, Auburn point guard Varez Ward was arrested on charges of point shaving.[10] Of the 21 players that Barbee signed while at Auburn, only 9 remained on his roster in his 4th season due to player dismissals and transfers. UTEP lowered its opponent scoring average from 71.9 points per game in 2008-09 to 64.6 ppg the following season -- the second best scoring defense for the Miners in the last 18 years. UTEP's field goal percentage defense (.392) was its best in 36 years, and its 3-point field goal percentage defense (.313) tied for first in school history.

Re: New coach thread
Tony Barbee has left the UTEP basketball team after four seasons in El Paso for greener pastures in the SEC. I suppose it's the nature of college athletics as we now know it. Universities that can't afford to pay their head basketball coach $1 million a year, or close to it, can't hang on to a bright, young coach when they are lucky enough to find one. Including perks, Tony Barbee made just under $360,000 last season in El Paso. According to Turn Up the Orange, Auburn's previous coach, Jeff Lebo, made about $750,000. Money talks. Who needs loyalty when you can double up like that?Barbee worked hard in El Paso. He was a master at finding unheralded players that fit his dribble-drive weave offense to a tee. Now, he's off to a bigger paycheck. I don't hold ill will towards him, but I'm not happy for him either. To be honest, I'm just happy he left the cupboard full. The only Miner who could conceivably leave the team before next season is Derrick Caracter. Even if he leaves, UTEP will return four of five starters, including 6'11 Arnett Moultrie, three-year point guard starter Julyan Stone, and Conference USA MVP Randy Culpepper. I'll take our starting five next year over anything Barbee can field at Auburn next season. The key is to hire someone who can pick up where Barbee left off. =inheritIs the Stull Model Working?Jason Rabedeaux. Billy Gillispie. Doc Sadler. Tony Barbee.
