Offline so duquesne..... laudable.... no one wants the job.... Hire someone that wants it. His name is Mike Rice Offline Time to hire Matt Driscoll and end this thing. Last edited by CLK (3/23/2017 11:21 am) Offline Time to hire Matt Driscoll and end this thing. He is one of the few who doesn't excite me at all. I'd go after Travis Steele now. Offline Time to hire Matt Driscoll and end this thing. He is one of the few who doesn't excite me at all. I'd go after Travis Steele now. Driscoll was an assistant at Wyoming, Clemson for 5 years, Baylor for 6 years and the Head coach at North Florida for 8 years. He took North Florida to the NCAA and NIT. Most importantly he wants to be here, and would take the job. Last edited by CLK (3/23/2017 11:32 am) Offline Time to hire Matt Driscoll and end this thing. This is the ghost of administrations past. The gift that keeps on giving. I kind of feel bad for Harper and gormley. They've shown they are serious about winning but the reputation the program has earned over the past several decades is a huge burden. Offline This is getting embarrassing. They've shown they are serious about winning but the reputation the program has earned over the past several decades is a huge burden. To be fair to the absolutely awful local media, they ripped into Pitt for hiring Stallings too. Offline i give harper credit: these three were very quality coaches. i imagine a new potential candidate or two will surface in the next 24 hours. Offline It is unfortunate that these stories get out without being substantiated, but certainly not time to panic or lower your standards. They are going after the best candidates available, and it shouldn't come as a surprise that guys like Becker and Fife want to investigate but not change jobs. Twitter makes it more difficult for the school to explore these options knowing that they there is a greater risk of being turned down publicly. The truth is that everyone is anxious to break a story, and as we have seen they overreact to situations. Duquesne can't be faulted for aiming as high as they can. We saw what happened when Amodio panicked after Dambrodt said no, no, no! I credit Harper for having several irons in the fire and refusing to settle for something that we don't want. Offline The worst thing to do is Panic...and that means hiring Rice. Remember why he was fired - the way he treated his players. It wasn't for giving out too many shoes...it wasn't for not getting along with the AD, it wasn't for blowing up his budget. IF YOU ARE A DIVISION I basketball prospect, YOU DO NOT WANT TO GO PLAY FOR A COACH WHO WAS ACCUSED OF ABUSING HIS PLAYERS. No, they should not get Mike Rice, but there are still many coaches out there. I would BET that Ferry is so angry, that once he finds out WHO the Dukes are looking at that he is contacting them and telling them reasons NOT to go. What Mr. Harper needs to do is to somehow, not let anyone find out so he can have a one on one without them receiving a call from Ferry. I doubt that RE has enough time to call anyone. The worst thing Mr. Harper can do is to settle as Amodio did. Just stay the course. Last edited by FAM (3/23/2017 12:40 pm) Offline Offline I have to pretty much agree with this. The article is spot on too. I have no idea how we are going to hire someone with more credentials than Ferry at this point. Offline Very disappointing how it is playing out thus far. It is strange how there is a name floated, it is reported like it is near done, then just as quickly shot down. Is there someone close to this search feeding info to media that the process is steps ahead of where it really is and shining light on the candidates to force people's hands? Just thinking out loud here. Offline Time to hire ElDuque Talk about throwing in the towel, huh? Offline Kenya Hunter!!! End all of this madness now Offline Kenya Hunter!!! End all of this madness now No. He wouldn't impress me at all. If he had SOME Head Coaching experience I would consider him, but he doesn't. Nebraska also didn't look very good this year and he is the top assistant there. Offline Kenya Hunter!!! End all of this madness now What has he done to earn a spot here? If he had gone to Fordham, would you want him? He learned his craft under Scott Edgar, and DAP. Egad! Bring in JT3! LOL! Offline The search firm we hired has ties to Izzo, his assistant coach Fife turns us down. So I ask, why spend money on a search firm that doesn't match the coach's interest with the school. This is making us look worse than the performance we put on the court. The damage is done as well as I am with Duquesne basketball. We should have said only interested coaches apply and then we could come back at the press with they approached us because we had a vacancy. Instead we have more damage than what we could handle by chasing these coaches and them turning us down. Good luck and wishes to all. I will be watching who they hire, but I really don't believe we are going to get a quality game changing coach. Offline What makes you think he wants to be here? Florida is a bit different than Pittsburgh. Maybe he is happy there. He is from Pittsburgh, and I have been told (take it for what it is worth) that he has interest. Not the sexy choice, but a solid pick. His record is very much like Ferry's at LIU. Eight seasons, two winning records, and those winning seasons weren't nearly as good as Ferry's two winning seasons. I hope they at least talk to Moton before going the retread route. Offline Fool me once, shame on you, fool me three times..........

Michigan State assistant Dane Fife is not going to Duquesne, sources told ESPN.
I guess we are now seeing the negative side of trying to be ambitious and punch above our weight a little bit in terms of going after candidates. This really sucks.

I just never thought it would handicap us this much, wonder where we turn now. Snarky comment on the update on 93.7 "whenever Duquesne hires a new coach they will say they got their man, however ... believes they have now been turned down by 3 coaches, most recently Dan Becker of Vermont and Michigan State assistant coach Dane Fife"
We should take the swear censor down in posts related to the local media.

I could see every single remaining player trying to leave if we hire Rice, who would want to play for him after watching that video. I think hiring Rice would truly set us back to square 0 in terms of rebuilding this program. Every time he tries to recruit a kid he will not only have to overcome the same old hurdles of being at DU we are seeing affect the coaching change, he will also have to explain why he was chucking basketballs at 18 year old kids while calling the b****s, p****s, and f****s.
I was recruited by schools as a division one athlete and if I knew a coach had past baggage like that, I would play for a d3 school before I subjected myself to that. Pass.

Also, add another coaching opening as JT III is out at Georgetown.
