What can you say, LaSalle beat DU like they were playing a CYO team. Lasalle's guards were terrific. The Dukes still have a long way to go in that regard. Next year we will be bigger, and should not get pushed around inside. However, we still need a couple of really good guards that can, defend, shoot and handle ball. Wasn't a big believer on the Dukes getting a JUCO guard for next year until about an hour ago. They did a very good job of convincing me that we need to improve there and fast if we want any shot at being decent. Here is the bitter truth, Ferry needs to recruit well enough that only Colter and Winters get significant minutes next year from the remaining guards on this year's squad, and even there they need to be fighting for a starting spot. To do this Datt or/and Martin need to transfer to open up another ship (or two) to be able to recruit at least two more quality guards. I am not giving up on Indy Jones or Biney as they can be significant role players, but we need better talent and guys who are consistent shooters-scorers. Long term, I think they are important reserves, or role player type starters. All of them have shown that they can produce at this level, but I don't know if they can do it consistently, at a high enough level to be impact players. That said, every team needs quality reserves, as well as complementary type starters. I think that these guys can fit those roles, as opposed to the sophomore class, which is clearly in over it's head at this level. I agree that the freshmen are out of gas. I think Colter and Winters are players and I think serve as a solid fondation. I like Jeremiah Jones' defense but I'm not sold on him at the other end to play more than 20-25 minutes a game. Thats a lot for a freshman. It's hard to understand how playing as a starter in two games per week causes a kid to run out of gas. Freshman or otherwise, this is not a physical strain, of course. Is it a mental or emotionally strain? It's only a strain when confidence is lacking. Can we just forfeit the rest of the season so we don't have to suffer these types of embarrassing losses? Anyone know why Abele was suspended for the game? These freshman got thrown into 'adversity bigtime' right from the start of the season -- with a supporting cast that lacked physiclal presence in a league that has plenty. The freshman for the most part did as well as can be expected from youngsters. The seniors for the most part were missing in action except that Marhold began to show some talent toward the end. However it was too little, too late. There isn't a frontcourt player who should even get major minutes on this team. The guards are wretched: can't shoot, create their own shot or mkae free throws. Wow. If your last 2 posts are indicative of how you feel about the team I'm not sure where you emotionally go from here. I agree its been a mostly horrible 30 years, but I would think the play of the 3 freshmen and the addition of 3 6'8 kids should be cause for a little cautious optimism. If you think negative thoughts all day long, your life will tend to embrace the negativity. Not a basketball post, just something to try and help some of my fellow human beings out. Can the freshman improve? If they get help from newcomers [Watkins, Robinson and Ovie Soko], it can be a whole new ball game. Then you might have some inside options - discouraging opponents from pushing outside the arc and taking away the easy 3-pointers. Then the guard play would become more effective.
Badly needed depth can be realized if Abele and Martin can make room for several more scholarships.

What also bugs me is that this team hasn't significantly improved in any area. That, I believe, falls to coaching. I'm not soured on Ferry yet, but even the win over Temple was more of a fluke as they lost an 8-point lead in the final 2 minutes. Only to win on a foul call that was at best, a stupid play by Temple.
. By then, the A-10 will have probably asked us to leave.
