Offline Haven't been this excited about DU basketball since the A10 championship gave vs Temple. Really enjoyed watching. gave up my season tickets a two seasons ago. Got back on board today. same seat. Offline Coach D is impressive. Sounds like he understands that you have to get better players, but that you also have to make your players better once they get here. Offline Here's a photo if you're looking for me: Looks like Jake The Snake Roberts Offline Players are here. Looks like most if not all. Can't get photo on here for some reason. But Freshmen all seem to be here. Did you see Isiaha mike? I didn't. Offline When the last coach was hired, they talked about making the NIT. Big difference tonight. Offline The crowd was very good and supportive several outbreaks of applause throughout. In addition to Dave Harper and Coach Dambrot Prez Gormley and BOT Chairwomen MILIE-Jones also spoke. It was an Nice event, plenty of media as well. Offline Offline Thought it was a brilliant move having someone from the board kick it off. Offline How could any Duquesne fan not be fired up after the event tonight? Coach Dambrot tapped into a lot of different emotions for our loyal fans there or watching online. He won over many fans, appears to be winning over our players and maybe won over some media there and I'm confident he's going to win over a lot of people around here with rock solid, winning basketball. Offline Just got done watching it. I'm blown away. Gormley's the goods. Harper's the goods. Dambrot's the goods. Offline Great presser until around the 50 minute mark when he said he doesn't think he's a better coach then Ferry. I hope he was just trying to be kind. Offline Great presser until around the 50 minute mark when he said he doesn't think he's a better coach then Ferry. I hope he was just trying to be kind. That statement was as political as it comes. The coaching fraternity is kind to one another. He was speaking on behalf of the current players. He can't sit there and trash the coach who recruited him. Offline A very positive event tonight. Offline I teared up twice during Dambrot's speech/questions. there might not be a better suited man on the planet to take this job. Offline The press conference was emotional, heart pounding adrenaline lets get it done,no more excuses and I just took Offline Of the 3 players in question to leave, Mike Lewis II would be the toughest to lose. While I. Mike may end up having a higher ceiling than the others, Lewis, due to his position and "game impact" night in and night out would be my choice if only one decides to stay. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to keep I. Mike as well, but the "tea leaves" may say otherwise. Though a very nice young man, many time this season I was very underwhelmed with Sanders. He showed some brief flashes, but I was always thinking "when we he commit his first dumb foul and have to change his game?". May be possible to maximize his potential with KD, but if Sanders goes, I say we easily recover (and likely upgrade). Offline When you can say your Dad played for the Dukes and they were the #1 team in the country, you can not only dream big but accomplish it. Offline I just wanted to thank everyone that I met and everyone on this board for their positive feedback concerning my Duquesne MBB coverage. Offline I just wanted to thank everyone that I met and everyone on this board for their positive feedback concerning my Duquesne MBB coverage. I'm spoiled by the quality of coverage that you provide. And I saw that Coach Dambrot was impressed by the quality of your questions. What a wonderful event last night. What an amazing commitment, new coach and excitement across the Duquesne community. It was hard to believe it was actually happening. Almost like a dream. I kept my ticket for one more year. Primarily to get an edge on the regionals next year probably thinking it was my last. But my how things have changed. There is hope in river city among the Pittsburghians!!! Let's Go Dukes! Offline I too was at last night's presser along with my wife which was a major coup!! Thoroughly impressed by everything that I saw and heard. While I had spoken with Dave Harper before, it was great to hear him speak to the crowd about the strategic plan for the university and how it all ties in with MBB program. What a sharp dude and a great get for DU. Coach Dambrot was just as captivating as he spoke about his past and his future goals for the MBB program. I do have to admit that I too teared up a couple of times. It's what happens when you have been a fan since the mid sixties here. As someone else put it, I truly believe that our days of exile from the NCAA tourney are coming to an end! We are through wandering in the desert. Coach D played baseball not basketball for Akron which is really amazing. Seems like an old school, scrappy kind of guy who refuses to lose. Just what the doctor ordered. Couldn't even get a good night's sleep last night I was so pumped! See you at the games. GO DUKES! Offline isaiah mike was definitely not there. i stood in the area the student-athletes were sitting. that might be indicative of his motivations or it might be because he had class or something (there were no thursday night games this year, right?) no graduating players were there fwiw, but nakye and lewis were. it looked like lewis was quite engaged, nakye was not. While we don't know why he wasn't there, there are a couple things worth mentioning. Offline Is anyone else still in shock that we have Dambrot? I am super excited for Gormley to come forward with his vision for the university. With the Uptown area starting to improve because of Consol, I think the future is very bright for Duquesne. It doesn't hurt that Pittsburgh is killing it as a city right now. Offline I especially like the coach's comments on how we expect to win. Offline When you can say your Dad played for the Dukes and they were the #1 team in the country, you can not only dream big but accomplish it. Good Point about Marie Milie Jones, I started to have hope that we could climb out of the abyss when she was named Chairman of the BOT at Duquesne. She is clearly competent, but I was hopeful that with her connection through her father to the program during better times, that she would be an ally. Clearly, that has been the case. The commitment of the BOT, the President, and the AD to the success of the Men's BB Program is what we've needed since the last century. It is much appreciated that finally this group and others recognize the vital importance of our flagship sport in continuing to grow the University as a national rather than a local brand. Let the success begin!

Someone said he was frustrated being in a Juan Bid league, and he confirmed that. Has to be tough to win 27 games, and not only not get a bid, but they weren't even in the conversation to get a bid.
Re: Presser
I would actually be surprised if this coaching staff doesn't get it done here.
Re: Presser
Here is the press conference for those who missed it.
Re: Presser
No I Mike that I was aware of.
Re: Presser
He's won coaching home games in an antiquated version of Palumbo ( ) and I'm confident he's going to win in Palumbo and whatever the new/renovated facility will be in part because he will have the backing behind him and his methods have been tried and true.

Re: Presser
I heard someone say there may have been more people there than at some of our home games and I can't dispute that. Lots of old faces too. Boosters who drifted away are back. Season ticket sales are climbing already.
I think I saw all of the returning players there. Now you guys have me doubting about Isiaha Mike. Mike Lewis II was certainly there and was chatting with the coach and the press well after the event was officially over.
Dan Burt was there with all or at least most of the women's team.
The local press was out with all local media outlets represented. It was a pleasure to get to meet Zachary Weiss who joined me and a couple of my buddies chatting with Dan Burt after the event.
I was very, very impressed with what Keith Dambrot had to say tonight. I've seen him coach and the results he gets so I am completely confident that our 40+ years of wandering in the basketball wilderness will come to an end. After the event was over he stuck around until they pried him away for a reception and he spoke with many of the supporters who were there including me. Keith made a very good first impression on me and what I liked most was our agreeing that consistently earning at large bids is the goal and ultimately doing the same thing another Catholic school is doing this coming weekend - participating in the Final 4 with a real chance at becoming NCAA champs. As he said, think big.
I've been to many promotional events for Duquesne basketball over the years and this was the most positive feeling I've ever felt after such a thing. And that's not just me. There are a lot of Dukes fans who are feeling very optimistic about the future. I really hope all the players currently on the roster decide to stay. We may surprisingly good sooner than later.

dave harper could probably motivate me to run through a wall
the room they booked was about half too small. though not a lot of students, try as i did. but we're not the ones with money, and those guys were definitely there.
I hate myself for loving you. Quoting me without the expressed written consent of the National Hockey League is prohibited.
Re: Presser
it in and even though I live far away you better believe I will drive over at least 6 times next year to support this new coach and new committment.I just enjoyed it so much, loved it all.
Everything I ever hoped for concerning Duquesne was the commitment to win, well its happening, last chance to ever
see basketball succeed and its up to all of us to show up and attend games. Its 4 am and I am still up,it was a very
special day. Thanks Duquesne.

Re: Presser
When Steve said a Board member kicked it off, I though, oh wow. Stew or Levon or someone like that. But Marie Milie-Jones (her Dad, Bob Milie, was the Dukes' long time trainer) was certainly acceptable. Some of the other Board members who were named, thank you to all of you. Our new president continues to impress me and David Harper is already the best AD to ever set foot on the Bluff. What a smart man.
There seems to be great chemistry among those who will lead the program. For the first time I believe there is a good understanding of the value a strong basketball program will bring to the Duquesne University brand, and people who see that even if you put academics first (rightfully so) it doesn't mean you can't win.
Coach Dambrot is dynamic. I love his passion and I believe he has a plan. I'm sorry right now that college basketball is coming to an end for the year and I have to wait seven months to see this team.

Every night class I ever had was on a Thursday and it went from 6 to 8:40, so there's that.
The other thing to mention is that yes he has asked for his release, but nothing more yet. The other two guys in the same situation were there, wearing their DU polos. So unless he's already said screw it im out, there's more likely a chance that something came up.
Isiaha Mike was much more firm than Lewis 2 about staying in that one PG article.
On the negative side, it could mean he's already gone, I would think status of current players should be decided soon.

Re: Presser
I am paraphrasing here "It is pretty simple really , we are going to defend , we are going to rebound the ball , we are going to share the ball , and get the best shot available and when we do we are going to make the shots ".
Best part is he believes in this philosophy and teaches it effectively. He is not just paying lip service to it.
Quite refreshing to say the least.
