Oh boy. We are gonna be thin up front next year. I think coach should be looking for a grad transfer. Based on the tweet that tarin smith sent last night, I wouldn't be surprised if Castro is leaving too.

Re: Sanders gone.

This gives Coach D the opportunity to bring in players that fit in to his style of play, not uncommon for those are uncertain if they could still make it at Duquesne to jump ship.

Re: Sanders gone.

I wish Sanders well, but am disappointed he did not give Duquesne another chance.  DU certainly gave him a second chance last year.

Re: Sanders gone.

Sorry to see him go.  Coach D would have made him a much better player maybe to the point that he could have made a living playing basketball somewhere.  I wish him well.

Re: Sanders gone.

These guys think they are better than they have shown on the court.  Perhaps Sanders can play at a lower level where the competition isn't as tough as the A-10.

As for Castro, he clearly wore out his welcome in the last 7-8 games when Ferry benched him.  He has one year left to play and I don't think it would be wise for him to stay at Duquesne.  I doubt he will play.

Re: Sanders gone.

THIS one is kind of disappointing - Sanders is not as talented as I Mike - still being one year older (not knowing his credit/academic situation)  Figured HE might be more likely to stay one more year - then be in a position to graduate - IF he didn't like the new coach/system - would NOT have to sit out a year --  (unless his current plan is to go JUCO/Div II) - While he could land at a decent program - Doubt if the demand for his services will approach that of where Isiah winds up -  Am speculating Mike might will wind up at a program slightly higher than DU - Sanders will wind up at one somewhat LOWER than DU.

Re: Sanders gone.

Frankly I'm surprised. Good luck to the guys who are transferring out. I hope your career goes well.

Come back and visit the future A10 champs sometime.

He'll be a junior, he can't go Juco.

Re: Sanders gone.

Not mad at all. Dude had no offensive game, shot free throws like a kid and on top of all was a huge D***. Remember he took some kids phone in the library? Easily Easily Easily can be replaced.

The kid really couldn't care less about the team or this school. I saw him out 24/7. I thought he was our fake tough guy.

Re: Sanders gone.

Can't wait for players who actually want to play on a team. Won't wait long!

Although I live in southside still I do not patronize the biggest, busiest, most popular places on Carson Street all that much anymore. However, when I have in the past two years, I would agree I saw him basically every time. I heard from a lot of people he was lazy in terms of any kind of work ethic. You also have the phone situation, and the other half of that incident was already shipped out. I don't like to bad mouth kids but I'm going to call it like I see it and hear about it.

Nakye was a guy who came in with a lot of promise. He had offers from Seton Hall, Temple, St. John's, and VCU. He played in a very weak and small league with minimal to no college talent playing in it, and he dominated that league. I would guess he didn't have to exert himself that much to dominate that league. He got here and we were very excited based on the size, reports, and offers and what did he give us after two years here?

19 mins/game, 44% FT shooting, 5.1 pts and 5.9 rebs/game. Those are season numbers so they are slightly inflated compared to conference numbers because of OOC cupcakes.

We could get that production from probably 50 different JUCO prospects and another 50 grad transfers w/size. He never blossomed or took that next step, which I heard had a lot to do with the fact that he wasn't willing to put the work in. Again, not bad mouthing him but I heard that from multiple people.

His loss doesn't bother me like Isiaha Mike. If we're going to be successful we need higher caliber guys in terms of character and work ethic at least. Sanders was the type of player that gets you 10 win seasons, not the freshman.

Re: Sanders gone.

Wishing all of the departing players well. May they find the success that eluded them here.
We will move onward and upward!  GO DUKES!
