Yeah I don't know why some were saying he had already decided. That said, I hope he stays. He is someone that dambrot can build around.

I personally heard on 93.7 them saying he said he was staying, idk about others. Hope he stays too.

Again great job 93.7

Re: Mike Lewis II Update

I am inclined to think that this means he will announce that he is staying. Not solely because of the indications he has given in interviews, but also because if we've learned anything from The Decision, the whole 'tune-in at this time for my announcement' thing is not a good idea if you are planning on disappointing the majority of those who will be paying attention. If you're leaving you do it quietly like I. Mike.

Related: funny response to his tweet from none other than Micah Mason

My gut tells me he's leaving.

I agree. I think it's weird to announce the decision, but even weirder if you're going to leave.

Lebron did it.

Re: Mike Lewis II Update

The recruits that were brought into Duquesne since Former coach Ferry arrived have for the most part been major disappointments.
So many came and left, none of them bringing Duquesne a winning season, especially this past year.

The past season they managed to build leads and then gave them up with both poor defense and offense down the stretch.

Clearly we need different types of players that can be coached and have the winning temperament to not only want  to win, but have the ability to be winners.

Mike Lewis wasn't the best player on his high school team and even if he stays, I hope we have better players than him in order for Coach Dambrot to build this long time losing program into a winner.

Even if there is a time when mike isn't the best player on this team, he will still in my opinion be the most important. You can tell the kid is a natural leader and I hope that he will be the cornerstone in the new era of Duquesne basketball.

Re: Mike Lewis II Update

Lewis2 is a player you would want to keep.  A high character guy who can be a leader as he gets more vocal.  He can score, in a variety of ways, will cut down on turnovers under Coach Dambrot.
I'm hoping he stays but we'll find out at 1:00!

Re: Mike Lewis II Update

Hoping that Lewis II stays. Very bright and a real basketball player. At the end of the day, the right move was made even if Coach D has to start from ground zero. Some of those departing may be doing so because they don't feel that they will fit Coach D's system. He wants to coach basketball not the game of run and shoot with no D!

YEAH BABY!!!  Can't wait to see you operate under Coach D Mike!!!  Congrats.  This is the guy we needed most to stay with the ship, now turning towards the promised land!!!!!

Re: Mike Lewis II Update

Mike Lewis strikes me as a kid who is way more mature and intelligent than most kids that age. He was patient, did his homework, and thought this thing through. That's not always easy when these kids have tons of people pulling them in different directions. Really excited to have you leading us into the next phase of Duquesne basketball, mike!

Re: Mike Lewis II Update

Hopefully we will look back on this day along side the hiring of Dambrot as what helped turn the tide for the Dukes in the years to come. Glad ML II is back in the fold and watching him only get better! Still more work to do on shaping the roster for next year and the years to come!

Re: Mike Lewis II Update

Great news. Mike is the kind of player that a team can be built around!! Kept the one that we needed the most. GO DUKES!!

Re: Mike Lewis II Update

Two important things about Mike Lewis II coming back.

1)He wasn't the best player on the team all season, but he was by conference play.
2) I think he will fit better into Dambrot's system than the two guys transferring out. Challenge is big guys are tough to replace in April

The Dukes have some holes to fill, but they also have their three most efficient offensive players from conference play back and a guy in Lewis who I think can develop into an all conference player. They also have a passable A-10 backcourt. I think they need another similar caliber player from this class to get much better than just .500 / CBI while Mike is here, but having him back is a great start.

Re: Mike Lewis II Update

Love that he is staying. I truly think his jersey will be retired one day. Great kid who has the swag and confidence to lead this team to the promise land.

Re: Mike Lewis II Update

Mike is Coach D's first recruit, in a manner of speaking. I believe that Mike will be the team leader and will rise higher than the others who are leaving because he will be "coached up." Loved watching Mike play this year and feel his future is very bright. His thoughtfulness has impressed me. Go Mike! Go Dukes!

Re: Mike Lewis II Update

Attention Duquesne alumni when you are looking to hire a  employee in about 3 years and his name is Mike
Lewis you will show him his office and ask when can he start work.
Loyalty, a often used word but a word not many follow by.Loyolty is you dont run away from the fight, you hang tough when things get rough on the Bluff.
My sincere thanks to Mike for not following the crowd and staying here and providing leadership and
a yearning to lead Duquesne out of the dark ages into a new era of success.
Michael Mauti  took that loyalty and led PSU  and probably saved  Penn State from years of misery.High
character, no bs guy who played with reckless abandon. Mike  is a high charcter guy.
I admire you Mike Lewis, you are your own man and I do mean man.

What are you talking about? That is ridiculous how can you sit here and project that by three years from now the best we can do is .500 and CBI?

You have no idea who will be coming during those years, much less this year with grad transfers. What if Dambrot can get another Ovie Soko type big man this year or next? What if he starts bringing significantly better kids immediately? What if Lewis makes another huge jump next year to a first team all conference level player and we bring a couple more solid pieces this off-season? Is that so hard to imagine? What a dumb thing to say.

There's now way in hell you can project out the next three years two weeks into Dambrots tenure. This is a huge get I could see your ridiculous prediction next year, not three years from now.

We were .500 and CBI with Ferry in 2015 and that team was probably less talented than last years.

Re: Mike Lewis II Update

I don't think that was a projection, I think Steve just said the same thing we're all thinking: OK, we have a foundation, but to get to the top of the conference we need to increase the talent base. Not getting good (better) players every recruiting class would leave us where we are now. But I think Dambrot's a guy who will recruit over players if he can. He'll also get the most out of the talent they have.

PSN article....  http://pittsburghsportsnow.com/2017/04/04/lewis-decides-stay-lead-duquesne/

“There’s definitely a more positive feel on campus. Now people are actually looking forward to the season coming up. I’ve had some students come up to me and say they can’t wait to come to the games and check us out. There really is a different vibe and it’s changed overnight. It’s definitely going to be exciting.”

I also like that KD flew to St. Louis to meet with Mike's parents.  Says a lot about the value placed on having Mike Lewis as an integral part of the program rebuild.

Re: Mike Lewis II Update

A positive campus vibe will go a long way in getting talent.  Strong conference, great city, just get that campus life going and DU will be a hard place for a lot of guys to overlook, thus more winning, thus more campus life/city life/fans showing up/etc...and its a perfect time, seeing how the school up the street is as bad off as they can be in the last 20 years.  Take advantage now.

Its refreshing to see a young man not take the easy road, stay committed and lead.  And in the end, he will be rewarded for his efforts.

Lets DU This!!!
