Offline I think this is a great idea. "Current Student" you would be the perfect fit and can use me as a reference :-) Offline I'm pretty sure they have had student interns in the past, I don't think this is a new initiative for Sports Marketing. If they did he or she did not do a very good job, of course it may not have been their fault. "When we win the will come!" - CLK 4/17/17 Offline this isn't new. i've seen it every year here. If I still had more time at DU I would have gone out for the team this year. We need bodies. Offline Hahaha thank you but I'm graduating in a couple weeks and landed a job with ADP. Yeah they have always had that. As a graduate from the business school, I took intro level sports marketing and sport management classes as my business electives, which was awesome!!! Basically every kid that was an actual sports marketing major would intern in some capacity for the athletic department whether it was basketball or other sports, whether game day experience or other capacities.
It's a win win situation. These kids get their initial job experience when they go on to try to get jobs in the ultra competitive sports marketing feild, which most flop out of from what I've seen, and the University basically gets a free labor force for carrying out functions of the athletic department. Basketball games for example, are basically run by the student body. The music at games, camera operators, general gameday people, merchandise sales at games, athletic department twitter accounts, and whatever else I can't think of is all run by students. The people at the scores table with the PA announcer are probably the only ones that arent students when you go to a game.
Maybe that's why the experience has suffered. The product is being run and facilitated by people who want to be sports marketers, not people who are experienced sports marketers.
