AJP Update

Hello everyone! Skiddyball (CGJIM) here. I haven't posted in a few years because I, like many long-time sufferers, had given up. But with the new coach and commitment by this administration, I decided to come back. I was at the AJP today picking my seats and have some things to share. If you already know this stuff I apologize.

There is going to be a complete gutting and renovation of the facilities as we already know. They told me they will be increasing the space overall because there is room to expand the building outward. Not sure where. They are planning on adding indoor practice facilities for things like lacrosse/soccer as well as bball and vball. There will be a focus on adding luxury suites as well.

They are also going to focus on ending congestion by expanding concourses and refreshment areas, as well as the bathrooms. The project is doing a massive fundraising campaign that is going very well. Nothing will be announced until funding is secured, possibly by October. The project, once started, will take us out of the AJP for a full season, yet they don't know where Dukes games will be played yet. I would imagine the PPG. They didn't know if it would be next season or the following.

And the big news is that since the Dambrot announcement, the Dukes have added over 150 full season ticket plans as of today. That doesn't include people like me that can't make all the games and are buying A-10 packages or 6-packs. They told me that coach wants to make sure the place is packed for games. Who doesn't?

Again, if I just rehashed stuff everybody already knows...sorry.

Re: AJP Update

There's been some rumors swirling about the AJP for a few months, but this is the first update we've heard in awhile. Also, really good to hear about the increase in season tickets, and it's only June! I will certainly buy season tickets if I am moved back to Pittsburgh by that point, but the legal job market is a tough place to navigate right now. I can't remember a time in my almost ten years as a Duke fan where there has been so much optimism.

Re: AJP Update

A recent article about Swingle's commitment mentioned the renovations...

http://www.chillicothegazette.com/story/sports/high-school/basketball/boys/2017/06/10/dylan-swingle-commits-duquesne/383239001/

"=14px“I chose Duquesne because Coach (Keith) Dambrot and his staff,” the 6-foot-11 Swingle said. “They are excellent coaches and I felt like I fit in well with his playing style. The campus is beautiful and the city of Pittsburgh is amazing. Duquesne is doing $50 million of renovations just to the basketball facilities. They are extremely passionate about basketball and I wanted to be a part of that.”
I doubt we are selling the renovations to recruits if they won't be able to experience them. If I had to guess 17-18 Palumbo / Swingle's Senior year in High School
18-19 PPG / Swingle Freshman/Red Shirt perhaps
20-21 Renovated Palumbo and Duquesne's 2nd trip the the NCAAs (we can dream right?)

Re: AJP Update

Hello gentlemen!
Thanks for the nice welcome back!

ED,  I'd love "skiddyball" back. It's an old Navy nickname and I know I'm the only one.

Thanks!

Re: AJP Update

In a way this is a PLUS -  Given that the Ladies might be even better - and will be nice that Chassidy, Julijana, Kadri-Ann and Connor won't have to be vagabonds for their senior year AND be able to experience Senior Day at the Palumbo Center!!

You can also do what a few of us out of towners have done, purchase a few season ticket packages and donate them to youth groups and Catholic schools etc.

Re: AJP Update

Sitting opposite the benches last night and me and my friend got into a conversation about the old bleacher side of AJP and the wasted space.

Plans have shown those red seats to be gone and replaced by boxes.

Why can’t you build a row of boxes and put the red seats on top of the boxes?  That would solve the slight line problems of those seats and not reduce capacity.  Like the upper level red seats that exist.  There is plenty of room to build up on that side.

I have been told as well that the wasted space of the first level corners will also be going away.   I hope that is true.
