Offline Looks like we start out as Iron Dukes III ? Offline I, like everyone else, haven't been this excited in years - and I got season tickets again as a result, but I am getting nervous about the lack of any sizable depth with the two bigs out until December (if all goes well it seems). If JR gets in foul trouble we will be lacking the beef for sure until Brown and the JC transfer are healthy. Here is hoping for a speedy recovery for the injured guys. Offline Right on President, but if I had my ruthers I'll take beating Bobby Mo, we can't lose to those guys anymore. Offline I'm looking forward to attending the game tonight. An extra tune up can only help. Let's Go Dukes! Offline Only thing I could find on the secret scrimmage was from a Canisius board where a poster said he heard they did good in the Duquesne scrimmage' Offline Any updates and early impressions from those in attendance tonight would be deeply appreciated. Offline Check Zach Weiss's twitter feed. Almost tweeting play-by-play Offline Per Zach Offline Per Zach Wonder how much is due to good defense versus poor shooting? Early reviews on Eric Williams sound good. Offline Dukes win 83-51 Offline Here is part of what I posted after watching the practice a couple of Saturdays ago. Offline Saw on Sarah Spencer twitter that Robinson had 14 and 8 at some point in the 2nd half. Offline Did any of the walk ons look like they could give us a couple of minutes early in the season while we,re getting healthy? Offline It was as I expected, a comfortable win against an over-matched opponent. It was kind of rough at times but it will help get the team ready for the season. Offline Did any of the walk ons look like they could give us a couple of minutes early in the season while we,re getting healthy? I didn't see anything to indicate they will be of significant help. Offline Thanks VBC and grammudder for the keen insight and early impressions. Hopefully, as VBC noted, some of our banged up players can recuperate quickly and give us an early season to remember. Almost tweeting play-by-play Here’s Zac’s post game story: Offline Well known, good top 10 teams have gone 7 deep before. We'll go 8 deep for a month. Stop acting like the sky is falling. Last I checked, Coach D is laying the foundation for the program, not trying to win a national title. If anything, look at it as a chance for the new guys to show their talents and get quality minutes that could be very helpful down the road. Offline Overall, a fun night. Just to sit in the stands and see a basketball game again was worth the wait. Nice crowd but we need to do better. Tydus is going to be a really good player but don't look for him to score much yet. Two great blocks in a row on one trip down court. Don't know how much more we could have expected last night than what we got. Looking forward to opening game. KD will work on the little things that will eventually translate into big wins. Offline Any approximation of what some of the other guys did pts & rebound wise???

Smith, Kanedy Castro, James, Lewis and Robinson were starters
Re: Exhibition Game
Anyhow, as to the players everyone is gonna love Eric Williams, Jr. He is a silky smooth lefty who can bury the three and can elevate. He is as advertised. He will play substantial minutes. I think our fans will be absolutely thrilled with Jordan Robinson. He is sleeker, faster, stronger and committed. I think he is our PF. I think Mike Lewis and Tarin Smith are our guards. i think the three spot is wide open right now. I was impressed with Rene Castro and his quickness on both ends of the floor. Overall the impression was a good one.
Nothing I saw tonight changes my opinion one iota. One more thing. You are gonna love coach KD's intensity; and that is putting it mildly!

Re: Exhibition Game
As Keith has told us, he plays an inside out offense. JRob with 14 & 8 was a direct result of this. Jordan looks more fit than ever before. He ran the floor well though clearly can't be out there 35 plus minutes. We need the injured big guys to heal up fast.
Regarding the freshmen, as grammy says, Eric Williams, Jr. is a player. A freshman player who needs plenty of experience and coaching to become a good college player, but the ability is there. Tydus Verhoeven looked timid and out of place in the first half. Not impressive at all. He looked more comfortable when he came in after the half and as the game progressed his play improved. Both of these guys will make plenty of mistakes but they can help us win some games also. Kratholm will have to give the team minutes at times this year but he looks to be more of a long term project.
The returning players looked improved on defense but given what we've been accustomed to in recent years that's no surprise. But little things, like a really nice switch off by Robinson and Verhoeven in the second half, make me feel good about what I saw tonight.
As far as our new coach, he will be loved in Pittsburgh. He coaches from the opening tip until the final horn. Nothing gets by him. A mistake won't necessarily get someone a trip to the bench, but it will get an immediate correction. He sees what's going on and he adjusts. The team played better in the second half than in the first. He coaches like Pittsburgh fans watch games; nit picking every little thing and complaining about each mistake. Then he's coaching them on how to correct the mistake and do better next time. He's going to have the players and the fans on his side because we're all going to see how he's going to make our program into a champion again.

"They did as expected." I like the sound of that. If they play hard, play defense, play smart, and listen to their coach, they'll be fine.

Re: Exhibition Game
I am sure you folks recall another time when Duquesne played with only 8 guys for a large part of a season and did quite well!
