Suzie whined after the game about how hard it is to be a BCS team and have to play a Duquesne.

Let that register.

How hard it is to have every advantage.

The money. The conference. The TV exposure.

All that.

So tough.

I'm trying to be a good Catholic boy and not find amusement in the misery of others, but I'm having a very hard time with that right now.

A lot of Dukes fans there tonight.  A lot.  Many students, members of the pep band, Red and Blue Crew, other student athletes.  The usual suspects among the alumni and friends of the program.  We all went to Oakland expecting to win and knowing we could lose.  The better team, program and coach came out on top tonight.  Another happy day on The Bluff!

Let's Go Dukes!!!

I am still thankful for what she did here. She really got the ball rolling in the right direction for the program, and now Burt is that "next level" coach.

I'm with you.  As much as I'm reveling in her misery tonight that's just because she has the unfortunate task of coaching Pitt.  I am grateful for what she did for Duquesne women's basketball and always will be.

Is Suzie the last Duquesne coach to lose to Pitt?

I think she beat Burt her first year there,

Pitt won the first 13 games vs us. We really were a joke back then. Since then, the Dukes have dominated, except for a 4 game stretch when Agnus really had them rolling.

Re: Pitt on Thursday

That's ok. He's beaten her 80% of the time.

Re: Pitt on Thursday

After the time she spent here (and yes, I appreciate what she did for the program), I can't believe she thinks it's not a big deal for us to lose to Pitt. Of course it's a big deal. Losing should not be acceptable under any terms. I know not everyone looks at it the same way I do, but losing to Pitt hurts the worst.

I always think Duquesne teams should start each year with three goals:
1. Own the city.
2. Win the A-10 (or NEC in the case of football).
3. Postseason.

PS, I love that Dan Burt believes that the game is important.

Re: Pitt on Thursday

Agree 1,000 %.  Win your backyard.  Make it important.  I believe our coaches believe it’s important.

Not much of a handshake between coaches after the game for all the time they worked together.

Yeah I saw that. Very awkward.

Great win. She is such a good sport. Lol. That was one cold handshake.

Congratulations ladies!

I've seen warmer handshakes between Calipari and Chaney.

Re: Pitt on Thursday

She's getting plenty of abuse over on the Pitt board.

Re: Pitt on Thursday

Can't she do any better than that dumb remark about non-BCS schools?  As if her non-conference schedule is loaded with BCS schools!  I have the solution - Pitt can play a nonconference schedule comprised entirely of BCS schools & go on the road once in a while, instead of playing a bunch of dull home games against hand-picked opponents.  I won't hold my breath waiting for that to happen.

You can bet Suzie thinks it's important too, why else would she try to denigrate the Dukes & the A10 the way she did. BCS, Big Cash Schools, for the most part have big state funding making it just that much tougher for non-Big Cash Schools to compete. I relished every second of last night's game, watching her frantically trolling the sidelines knowing that she was overmatched. Way to go Dan Burt. You deserve to be proud of your team today!

I live vicariously through such posts.👊 Fist bump!

Re: Pitt on Thursday

Well UConn isn’t a BCS school so under her logic she should beat them.

I feel there  is bad blood between the staffs.   DU was ticked at the timing of the game against the Steelers.  There have been comments made that it was done on purpose to bury the fact she was going to lose again.

She looked silly with those comments and she took a pounding on the Pitt Board and Twitter.

On a positive note, I believe NCAA rules now prohibit visitors taking bands and cheerleaders to away games now.  Neutral site is different.   The fact that pep band members wert to the game to cheer the women on just shows you what a special coach we have.

I saw him at the morning practice event speaking with and thanking the cheerleaders.  He took the cheerleaders, band and dance team out for milk shakes at the A10s last year.   He has only had I believe one transfer (after the SMS departure) year.    We have a really special head coach in Dan Burt.
