Re: nice story on dylan swingle in chillicothe gazette TODAY

I just got back from the game and I wish I could say something I saw in Dylans game that I liked but I really
cant say much other than he is big and strong.Piketon beat Paint Valley 66-40 .Dylan probably had 12 points 6-7 rebounds and 3 blocks. He never got in rhythm ,took some bad shots, missed  easy layups
where the biggest player on Piketon was 6-2.Looked tired as he walked up and down the court a lot.
Hopefully  what I watched was just a off night and to be fair, his teammates are not too good,so its all
on Dylans shoulders to deliver and Piketon collapsed on him defensively forcing him into jump shots.
On defense he looked out of position as Piketon was able to drive the ball ,kick it out for the 3 or get a lot of easy layups with some good passing. He just wasnt able to match the other teams quickness and again
he isnt getting much support from rest of team.My wife thought he was clumsy.Sorry.

Re: nice story on dylan swingle in chillicothe gazette TODAY

Everyone gets an off night. 😀

Get 'em out of the system before he gets here.

Dambrot is a "nut" when it comes to nutrition and strength and conditioning. DU has access to stuff his HS doesn't.

Re: nice story on dylan swingle in chillicothe gazette TODAY

I say this pretty often but big guys take time. Swingle's going to have more space to work with next year than he's probably had since he was a freshman because teams can't sell out and guard him. Of course, he's also going to encounter some guys who can match up one on one, too. He like most freshmen bigs is going to have an up and down year. While he's going to have more polish than some frosh he's going to have to adjust.

Re: nice story on dylan swingle in chillicothe gazette TODAY

This may make you feel a little better. I went to watch Zeke Marshall play against Trinity his senior year and you can pretty much say that I saw the same performance that Stew just saw. Trinity had a 6'3 kid playing against him.

Re: nice story on dylan swingle in chillicothe gazette TODAY

I think when Dylan gets in here, that with nutrition and working out with a strength and fitness coach , his body changes
and he has possiblities. Its also difficult being a 17 year old and having a target on your back because of his size in a
small rural area where the expectations have to be  high as he is the only Divison 1 player within 40 -50 miles of
where he lives. Shame on myself for expecting so much and being dissappointed with his play.He is still a kid in a
large body.

Re: nice story on dylan swingle in chillicothe gazette TODAY

Frankly, Dylan is not the only big coming here next year. Even if he never makes a huge splash, we still have 3 other bigs that will be of help. I think Bizeau will be the best of the lot before the smoke clears. Kelly also appears to be quite athletic.

Swingle had multiple power 5 offers and plays on a nationally competitive AAU team with other stud players and puts up numbers. Could have been an off night, other team focusing solely on shutting him down, or any other number of things. I think he will be a good player here.

Re: nice story on dylan swingle in chillicothe gazette TODAY

KD will probably redshirt Swingle next year.  That is his MO from his Akron days....bring in big guys with some upside and redshirt them while they develop and learn the system.  Check Akron's scores for a guy named Olojakpoke.  He was so raw most thought he was barely a D2 recruit and was a waste of a scholly.  KD saw more.  He is in his sophomore year now and is one of the key players.  This will not be the first big guy you are scratching your head about. Not sure if he will make it or not but you will have to wait till his 3rd year in college (RS Sophomore) to really know if the gamble pays off.  More than anything....these guys will be high character guys that will represent the program well even if they do not make it.  At Akron...I would guess that well over 50% panned out.  KD looks and plans long-term as well as short-term.

It was reported that WVU offered. Also reported offers were from Akron, GW and Bowling Green.

Re: nice story on dylan swingle in chillicothe gazette TODAY

Wvu offered and he had interest from Ohio state, Wisconsin, and Xavier. Also went on a visit to Pitt shortly before committing to Duquesne I believe.

Re: nice story on dylan swingle in chillicothe gazette TODAY

This kid was built to bang against other big bodies, not trip over gang of midgets biting his ankles.  I am not at all worried about Dylan.  I believe he has the skills to help the Dukes in a team approach

Re: nice story on dylan swingle in chillicothe gazette TODAY

I recently heard from a "reliable" source that Bob Huggins has said that Duquesne is now involved with recruits that it hasn't sniffed (my word not his) in over 30 years.  I have faith in KD and his staff and I will be more than surprised if Dylan Swingle does not turn out to be a very good player.

I am not a basketball expert but what I have seen at Palumbo over the past couple of weeks is about 180 degrees from what I've seen there over past several years.  This ship is turning around right before our eyes week by week, game by game, offensive and defensive set by set.  I have no idea how many games the current team will win and it doesn't really matter to me because I have no doubt that we are finally on the right track to a successful program.

Swingle will eventually be very valuable, but some here have been overhyping him. He looks like guys that I've seen at Dayton over the years. These guys are just a big body early on, but become very good as upperclassmen. That's what I expect here. Only elite bigs come in and dominate from day one. He's not that caliber, although he'll probably have the occasional game where he'll flash his potential. KD will have enough options that he can go with the hot hand among his young bigs.

Re: nice story on dylan swingle in chillicothe gazette TODAY

With Chas Brown moving on next year, and Mike Hughes hopefully able to step into that role, we will still need one or two of the young bigs to contribute off the bench behind Tydus and Hughes.  I assume the coaches will evaluate which of the four are most likely able to play immediately and perhaps redshirt one of two of the others.  "Biz" looks more like a perimeter big more like Nick K. and Marco.  He will likely need to get stronger as well.  That would leave Rotroff, Swingle and Kelly as the three more traditional bigs.  From the tape I've seen,  Rotroff he looks to be versatile, and have a good understanding of the team game, and Kelly appears to be the most developed physically which might put him ahead of the others.

levon, all good points.  We are also losing Jordan Robinson. So between Chas and J-Rob, there are about 35 minutes per game available at the 5 (based on the rotation of the last 3 games).  As of now, you have to figure that Mike Hughes is going to get the first 20+ minutes, with the rest up for grabs by the freshman. The minutes at the 4 will also be quite interesting to watch - theoretically, there may be 7 or 8 guys vying for minutes at this position (Tydus, Marko, Kellon, Nick, Biz, Rotroff, Kelly and even Hughes).  Dambrot is going to have a lot of pieces to move around on his court.

Re: nice story on dylan swingle in chillicothe gazette TODAY

Marcus Weathers played center for Miami when they beat Akron.  He outplayed "Big Dog" Johnson (the best center in the league and one of the best players in the league) and was the reason why Miami was able to pull those upsets.....and get noticed by KD.  I think Marcus will play a lot at the 4.  I still think Swingle gets redshirted unless he can really contribute.  KD will have to balance the long-term with the short term.  It will be interesting and fun to follow.

Re: nice story on dylan swingle in chillicothe gazette TODAY

Looks like Dylan bounced back last night with 29 points, 12 rebounds, while Brandon Wade became the first 1,000 point scorer in his school's history.

Also somebody asked about Bizeau being a 4  star recruit.  Don't want to be accused of hyping a player but others see him as a darn good player.

(BTW, before some eagle eye misses the big picture and nit picks this, he is a senior).

I really like this recruiting class.  When you have a coach who can attract talented players, and has the ability to develop them you have a winning formula.

Re: nice story on dylan swingle in chillicothe gazette TODAY

I was able to get Bizeau's numbers from 2 of his games. He had 19 and 11 in one game and 28 and 13 in another. That's all I could find.
