KenPom rankings

Just looked at the latest updated rankings. Dukes are 229.  Ok, not great, but getting better.

Our beat-down of Delaware St dropped them to 352nd place, i.e. the worst team in Division 1 basketball.

Robert Morris is 240.  Anyone else here get the idea that if yesterday's team played Robert Morris tomorrow, instead of the "we dressed only seven guys and  two walk ons" that faced them two weeks ago, the results would be a lot different?  I sure as hell do.

i think that for all of the team's losses, including Pitt. The difference in the way this team plays vs even just a month ago is amazing.

They probably aren't as good as they are playing right now because the team is shooting so unsustainably well from three, but...look at how many A10 teams are losing to bad teams. we have bad losses to RMU and Cornell but who doesn't have bad losses? Only the Bonnies have less than three losses already. the conference is down this year. We should beat some teams in the A10 at this rate

Re: KenPom rankings

Passing and shot selection are part of the reason why they're shooting so well. MLII had open looks on pretty much every shot (and not long after some of our observers noted that more had to be done to get him better looks -- I guess Coach agreed with some of you).

Defense is also creating better opportunities, as so many have pointed out.

Re: KenPom rankings

RPI Forecast also loved the blow out and bumped the Dukes expected record to 14-17 (again not good, but what I expected heading into the season). What's more interesting is they now give the Dukes a roughly 30% shot at a winning regular. Winning seasons doesn't mean much by itself, but it'd be a very good omen in Dambrot's first year.

Re: KenPom rankings

The difference going forward is that Williams Jr. is performing at an unexpected level. A player from which little was expected, is now the best player on the team. It's like getting an extra player.

In a way it's like Fred Moon's emergence as a major contributor as a senior.  The great benefit is Williams will be here 3 more years!

Re: KenPom rankings

Also Rene is becoming the player we hoped for when he transferred in.

He has emerged in the last two contests as a passer, passing up the drive for the assist. Plus his range from trey-land has improved.

Having some 23 year olds on the team may help when the conference battles and hostile crowds come into play.

Plus, Eric is producing at twice the level that Moon did his senior year.

14 and 17 is still a forty percent improvement on Ferry's last year

Eric Williams has already done something I never expected to happen during his career, much less a few games into his freshman season.

He has made me forget Isiaha Mike.

I honestly think he looks BETTER.

So far, I agree!

Re: KenPom rankings

Now, now. Picture IMike staying and Chas Brown being healthy all season. Does a lineup of Brown, Mike, Williams Jr., Lewis II, and Smith/Castro-Canedy with Tydus, Taylor, and Robinson getting PT not look like something that would have been good?

You kids ... 😊

Re: KenPom rankings

IMike and Nakaye Sanders, for that matter, would have done well under KD I believe. However, they are not here. A huge challenge for KD and the staff but they seem to be meeting all challenges head on. Truly an exciting time for DU Basketball. As others have said, the number of wins this year will not define the program. Many outstanding years to come.
Go Dukes!

I don't in any way doubt that I Mike would make this team exponentially better if he was here, I wish he was. What I'm saying is up to this point Eric Williams has made up for his loss from a contribution standpoint. In fact his numbers are likely better from the same amount of games. I just never expected anything close to that from Williams.

I thought this year would be all Lewis, Smith, Castro. Williams has blown away expectations and Tydus has at least met them, from my perspective.

Re: KenPom rankings

Meanwhile Sagarin has the Dukes at 210. Quite a disparity among various ranking services.
