Offline Good effort Offline Williams sneaks in the double double Best play of the game, for me, is when at about a minute left we got a steal and a fast break...Williams is sitting there with 8 points...has an opportunity to drive to the hoop and try to get the double double...instead he drives, passes to the corner, another pass, then a drive and easy layup for Rene I believe. Offline Williams 10-13-5 Offline Williams 10-13-5 I thought Lewis had the best defensive game in his Duquesne career. He also had a few nice drives. Great to see that he can still be an important contributor on a bad shooting night from three. Last edited by Dukes2012 (12/13/2017 9:00 pm) Offline Bad shooting night for Williams Jr but had 10pts 13reb 5asts. A bad game for him and those numbers Offline And he shot 4-11 as well. Not so bad but Tydus brought some life. Still not great offensive presence Offline Won by 24, a margin three points larger than what MVSU was beaten by in Stillwater, and beat the computer spread by seven. Offline Were it not for playing without a full roster early in the season, the Dukes could very easily be 8-1 at this point. Last edited by IronDukes12 (12/13/2017 9:55 pm) Offline We're up to 224 in KenPom rankings! Movin' on up! Offline During the 4 game win streak, Dukes giving up 54 pts per game. Offline ...and we're currently tied with Valparaiso at No. 31 in the nation in points allowed per game. Another strong defensive showing against North Carolina A&T on Sunday — holding our foes below 50 points for the third time in a row — and the defensive-minded Dukes, currently yielding a stingy 63.1 points per game, could find themselves in the top twenty-five in Div. I scoring defense. Last edited by IronDukes12 (12/14/2017 7:59 pm) Online! These next two games are part of the Las Vegas Classic it looks like. Offline I was frustrated watching that first half but the kids really stepped up. Eric Williams Jr. had me thinking about Damian Saunders last night. Except Eric is two inches shorter (same goes for comparing him to Bruce Atkins)! There's noticeable improvement in Smith and Jordan, too. Offline I think it's worth pointing out that the Internet stream has been much better as of late. Offline Watching the slow start last night and all the missed opportunities, I never had any doubt they were not going to lose this game to this team, BUT, I dreaded the thought that two or three times this year, they are going to have a start like that against a much better team and it will be them looking at a 15-20 point deficit in short order. I hear you ED, no doubt Eric can fill the role, but it will be interesting to see where he fits in next year when the full squad hits the floor. I have a feeling he gets his minutes at various positions, because he rebounds so well, can handle the ball and shoot it. Defense will also factor into where he plays. Based on the opponent Coach D may want to go a little bigger at the three and move Eric to a guard spot. Either way he will be a very valuable player as long as he keeps working to improve. It will be interesting to have all that flexibility, so coach can scheme for each opponent. Offline At game. Agree with another poster that MVS looked better than their record. Didn't see any stiffs. This was a good game for us. Defense ruled the day! The Delta Devils will best some teams this year for sure. I do see us competing favorably with all but a possible few A-10 teams. RI, Bonnies, VCU, and Davidson looking like the best in conference for now. None of them are unbeatable especially at AJ's Place. Offline We have a chance to win them all if we play our cards right and defend. Only team I see who will be a problem is st Bonnie’s and rhode due to their guard play. Offline We have a chance to win them all if we play our cards right and defend. Only team I see who will be a problem is st Bonnie’s and rhode due to their guard play. Agree. Teams with good guard play are going to really bother us this year. MVSU played a four guard lineup last night, and that's hard for us to defend considering we only have three guards total on our active roster.

10 blocks
20 assists
8 turnovers
Held MVS to 49 pts. They average 58

That's unselfish play from a freshman who I'm sure was told if he gets a double double tonight would have 5 of them in his first 9 games - tying Bruce Atkins (cheers to goduquesne.com mentioning this in the last few game previews). That selfless attitude probably resides in Williams as he seems like a good kid - but there is also a TON of coaching there. He did it earlier as well, opting to pass when he had an easy shoot for someone who had an even higher percentage shot.
I'm very happy to see he was rewarded with an open slam to get the stats he needs.
GO DUKES!

Still Dambrot not happen with the performance. Not championship caliber per the coach. Don't get me wrong I don't think this is a championship caliber team nor is it one that should realistically have championship aspirations this season. However, the coach was concerned about championship habits that were lacking at times this even.
0 complaints from me about that performance from this years team, but also 0 complaints about the coaches comments.
Re: Game Thread - Mississippi Valley St. Delta Devils
I like the steady progress and, more importantly, the winning attitude that Coach Dambrot is gradually instilling in this young team.
Let's hope the Dukes make it five in a row on Sunday, but Lamar — winners of five in a row and eight of their first nine contests — will be a much tougher test on Tuesday.
The Cardinals have already won road games against Tulsa, Coastal Carolina and UTEP and play Southern Illinois — one of our opponents later this month in Las Vegas — in Carbondale on Sunday.
Let's Go Duquesne!

i know the competition is weak but its amazing how much easier it is
to win when you play solid defense.

Levon, if you're reading, Williams might have answered your question about our small forward of the future.

This game shows the importance of the motto that offense will come and go, but defense must be a constant. It wins games like this one, when the shots don't drop. In the past, we were toast when the shots didn't drop!
